I like being a loner and having companions. I leave them behind alot. My favorites, Vanilla would be EDE, Cass and Veronica. Mod wise would be Russel, Guts the dog, and my pitbull mod. Recently Ive been giving Willow a shot, which includes JT the dog.

So even when alone my courier has two or three dogs with him.

I Prefer Having Many Companions,Because It Can Prove To Be Very Useful And Funny,My Companions Are Often Rex,Willow(The Mod),Andrea For ARES Project And J.T. From Willow

They Can Prove To Be Useful As Shields For Example Effective Against Deathclaw Mothers Or Alpha Deathlaws Which Slash Your Companions First While You Go A Bit Behind Them And Are Able To Kill Them Very Easy

But Sometimes Followers Can Be Annoying For Example When A Cutscene Of A DLC Appears Willow Always Teleports Her Into You And You See Almost Nothing...

But All In All Are Companions Fun ;)

In FO3 I ended up always recruiting Clover. Even using console to lower my karma enough

New Vegas is a Willow game. She's always around. I always do the vanila NPCs quests and of those Veronica really won my heart. Only played the DLCs once but Christine was not to be left behind. Used her for a long time and I can live with the bugs of the mod

Sometimes I've had a small army but I try to stick to only one or two now.

I usually have a whole squad of companions in some common themed outfits. Be it SW clone troopers (I call it Havok Squad), jedi, Hellsing, properly colour-coded Star Trek (e.g., the medic gets the blue uniform), landesknecht, ninjas, or the mafia, or really whatever I fancy at the moment.

I'm trying solo again ATM, except in as much as I need some companion for a quest (e.g., Veronica to get into the BOS), because frankly most of them can't sneak worth beans and just crimp my style. It doesn't help that whatever I did to my game at the moment is making them stand up when shooting. Well, not always, but often enough to turn "I'll just stealthily find that ghoul's girlfriend" into "*sigh* guess we're slaughtering all the supermuties in the basement instead. Sure, that works too..." You know what I'm talking about.

What worries me is that I'm finding it a breath of fresh Jet... err... air. Yeah, I mean air. You know, compared to worrying all the time who should I dismiss so they don't shoot up the Gun Runners joint and such.

Wish I knew what makes them stand up, though...

Honestly, I play alone with no companions because I view my companions as something akin to game play trophies, like "jacks" I picked up while doing everything right in the game. For me, I just don't want to lose one of them so I explore by myself and keep them all locked up in the Lucky 38 casino where no harm will every come to them.

I always play with companions. Any companion that I find first

If you follow the normal route.

That would be Ed-E (unless you don't have the skill to repair him) and Boone.

If you missed Boone somehow, you would get Veronica as there is very little chance you would miss her.
