    • Yes, assuming anything else would be arrogant.

    • No. (for religious reasons)

    • No, I don't think for scientific reasons it's likely.

I am going to agree with Albareth on this. Just look at the night sky, there are millions upon millions of stars out there, many with their own solar systems similar to ours. How can there not be life out there? This should be an interesting debate topic!

hmm yeah i think its most likely that life exists out there. i mean like u said we got gazillions upon gazillions of planets out there, one of them must have life on it! unless of course god created the entire universe for us to populate, but thats a bit hard to believe :P and as u said, prolly extremely arrogant ^_^

God created humans to be the only intelligent species. Anywhere. There may be "aliens", I agree that scientifically it is unlikey but possible. However, there is no other concious, intelligent life. Period. I know this because I believe what my God says, and he says that only his children will enter heaven. Any other creature of conciousness, or intelligence, therefore simply cannot exist.

I'm going with the 'arrogant' option.

The universe is pretty big. The number of stars in it is ....*bad pun warning* astronomical. To assume that out of all those stars only one should have a planet with the right conditions for life is highly illogical.

Since most things appear to be governed by the normal distribution curve of probabilities, why should stars be an exception? IMO, it is extremely likely that there are innumerable stars with planetary systems where life is possible out there.

And where life evolves, sooner or later intelligent life will appear by natural selection (though something must have gone wrong on planet earth then ).

I wouldn't expect this intelligent life to resemble human even remotely.

I am hardpressed to respond to your comments without engaging in a serious debate over the validity of the religious beliefs you base your claims upon. It would be unfair of me to attack those beliefs (at least in this thread, we can start another if you wish) in order to counter your claims. The vastness of Space, the sheer number of galaxies, the staggering number of stars, and the incomprehensible number of planets means that we will need thousands of years to discover everything out there. However, it is dangerous to simply assume that nothing aside from ourselves exists in this, or any other universe. It is true that scientifically there exists no proof, one way other the other. Science, as a process of elimination, is by nature time consuming, imperfect and demanding. However we will eventually know whether or not we are alone. I trust the scientific method, which has been proven correct hundreds of thousands of times over the course of human evolution. There is no proof that we are alone simply because God created only us. There is absolutely no evidence for this whatsoever, nor will there ever be. It is convenient because it requires nothing more than to say ardent belief and unquestioning acceptance.
