Which operating systems have you used before, and which ones are your favorites? I have used Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, MS-DOS, and Ubuntu so far. Out of those, Windows XP is my favorite so far and I also really like Ubuntu, Windows Vista is even good for me since I have it on my newer laptop and it runs pretty well, though I may consider switching to Windows 7 likely after the warranty expires.

Haha...I've used all the Windows OS since 3.1 :D

XP has always been a good OS to me, has to be their best one. Windows 7 is quite nice as well, very stable. Vista runs a close tie with ME as being the worst one :P Ugh, the memories...

Ubuntu is cool, I used that for a year or so...but Linux can be a pain in the butt sometimes...

I just hate Mac OS....have used multiple versions in school and had OS Tiger I think it was on an old G4. I just don't like how it's designed and how the "windows" work, and the fanboys...*rolls eyes*

I have used 98se, ME, 2000, XP and sometimes Ubunto. And unfortunately had to use an appletosh a few times.

I really liked 98SE only had one problem with it the whole time I used it. 2000 was nice as well and I use XP now. It would be tough for me to compare because XP is what I use, had XP not come along and it went straight to Vista and given what everyone says about it I would say either 98SE or 2000 were my favorites. So I guess XP is now. I even confused myself with this post!

With the exception of 7, I have at one time or another used every version of windows since 3.1, including NT, 2000, and ME. The only real issue I remember happening occurred with constant bluescreens in ME, followed by constant rebooting (probably due to corrupted files). And that was only an issue because the computer I was using at the time was second-hand, came with windows 98, was upgraded to ME, and didn't have any of the disks to reinstall an OS after reformat (upgraded to ME mostly so that I could have access to windows components which were removed). But yeah... that's what happens when you don't know anything about the nitty-gritty of what a computer needs.

There's someone who works for Apple in one of my classes. So, rather than being exposed to the typical Mac Fanboy, I have the deluxe version to contend with. He's already succeeded in converting about 4 or 5 other people to buy mac books or other portable devices. It's like a cult. Fortunately, my experiences with a Mac have all been bad in the past, meanwhile most of my experiences with windows have been mostly good. But I believe this is largely due in part to my ability to learn and adapt to systems, rather than any good design. I do however prefer windows simply because I'm too lazy for linex, and don't want to deal with anything as needlessly user-friendly as Mac. I believe that using a computer should be an active process where you have to remember where things are and be aware of directory structures simply as a matter of due course. Kinda like how it's usually better to use the stairs when going to the second floor of a building instead of the elevator. If you don't force yourself to maintain that ability, you tend to lose it. I've already forgotten most of the Dos stuff I once knew.

Have tried them all since Win 3.1 WinXP SP3 is the winner for me. Have also tried Vista and 7. Vista was the worst.

During the last 10 years i have never had a crash or blue screen of death.

So Microsoft really have to come up with something extraordinairy, to make me change.

For the longest time I refused XP and preferred 2000 Server over any other Windows. When I built my current desktop though, I put XP on it. Over the past...shoot I think it's a year and a half now...I've come to like XP and realize it does have its advantages over 2k Server--particularly, not being a so-called "Server OS" means software that would refuse to install on 2k Server runs happily on XP. USB is also more convenient on XP. I also found that I could tame XP's annoyances fairly easily, and with my preferred shell replacement (bbLean) installed, there's next to no difference in user experience between 2k and XP.

Vista and 7, not so much. Especially 7. 7 simply cannot be "tamed" to my satisfaction. 7 took everything I liked about XP and threw it away. I hate it. bbLean also has difficulty with tray icons in Vista/7 due to the new separation of system and app icons in the tray. Vista at least can be tweaked to look and behave somewhat like XP/2K, which improves its annoyance:benefit ratio a bit. 7 on the other hand... :wallbash:

That said I'm fairly agnostic with regard to OS. Use the one that fits your needs. Windows for gaming. OSX for sheer simplicity. Linux for real work. I currently have one XP-64 system (my desktop), a laptop running XP32, a sub-laptop and a desktop running 2K Pro, a desktop running 2k Server, and a desktop running Ubuntu. I've been considering putting linux (undecided on distro) on my laptop, maybe dual-booting it with XP since I do play Fallout on my laptop occasionally.
