[HELP] Consistently unable to upload files > 2MB

Ok. I've posted about this before, and while I understand there may still be lingering issues with recent server moves, I have been consistently unable to upload any files larger than 2MB to the site since the major server move last year. I have muttled through where possible but the problem has reached a point where I can no longer keep the mod entries updated with new versions as needed. So I'm hoping to get one last bit of help before I give up.

The problem exists across all browsers, I have tried:

Firefox 3.5, Firefox 3.6

IE 7, IE 8

Opera 10, Opera 9

Google Chrome

Firefox is the only browser in which an ad-blocker is in use. The others are as virgin as they can get.

I've tried this in XP SP2, and again after my last reinstall which is now running XP SP3.

The problem existed on my old motherboard as well as the new one I have, which means the network hardware is different now.

The problem is very simple. The upload progress bar (when it works) gets to just past 2MB and the browser stops and eventually displays an error saying the connection was "reset by the peer". I can capture another image of it if need be, but it's a common error.

I've got absolutely no issues uploading mods to any other site, so I have extreme doubts about it being something hardware or network related, or even gunk in the OS because this is the only site which fails at all.

There are no hardware firewalls or DSL routers in play. Everything is on static IPs here.

I don't get it. I really don't want to abandon my file entries here because despite these problems the file database is the most user friendly one around, and I've built up enough endorsements and comments and such that it would be a shame to lose those.

So does anyone have any ideas? Anything I can try?

How about the famous cookies? I think you've already logged in and out a few times, maybe it something went wrong with them. Deleting the nexus ones, or maybe the internet files may help.

Microsoft says this about the problem.

I've heard about IPs that have changed, although IIRC it was the forum server..maybe following similar steps (I'll search for them in a sec.) could help.

This is what Firefox throws out:

Other browsers throw their equivalent of the same error. The problem is far too selective for that Microsoft page to apply as only file uploads here are affected.

The attempt used to get the screenshot died pretty fast, at 93K uploaded. The first tick on the upload progress bar. Fastest it's ever choked.

Cookies are all nice and freshly baked, and this problem has followed across a full OS reinstall.

How about doing this:

  1. Create your page here on the Nexus, set the description, screenshots, etc.
  2. Upload the file you want attached to the page to a file mirror (such as MediaFire.com) (click here for more options)
  3. Add the file mirror link to the file mirror option for your page.
  4. Send me a link to your page and I will grab the file from the file mirror tab and upload the file to your page myself.
  5. Once I upload the file, you can feel free to edit the file to change how I named it as well as the description and category the file itself belongs to.

AlienSlof used to have problems uploading to TESNexus for some reason which seemed to be ISP-related and this is how I helped her.

Is there any possibility that this issue is somehow tied to the fact that unregistered users can only download files up to 2MB?

I just tried uploading again from a different computer here in the house and it failed at exactly the same point. Just as the file passed 2MB uploaded. It might be something worth looking into. I don't know how the interaction with the user database works under the hood but it seems a plausible explanation for why it's so consistent. Maybe there's a stray bit set on my account somewhere?

@LHammonds: Thanks for the offer. A stopgap for now I guess is better than nothing, but finding whatever is wrong would certainly be in both our best interests I'd think :)

The entry I'm trying to update is here: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20053

The files are mirrored here: http://www.moddb.com/mods/really-aevwd

The "Really AEVWD Base Package 1.7" and "RAEVWD Elsweyr Anequina V2 Extension Pack" are the ones I'm trying to upload to the page so I can then remove the previous versions of these.

I'm attempting to upload a 200MB test file now and will let you know the results.

From the information you have provided it really seems to point towards this being an ISP issue. Perhaps your ISP doesn't like my servers, or it doesn't like the way I've setup my servers, or it doesn't like my code, I don't know, but a very very small minority (2 other people) have reported similar problems over the past 2 years and they have come back to me saying they can upload fine at work on the same setup, just not at home.

I'd say that definately stinks of being an ISP issue.

Edit: yup, my upload went fine without a hitch

I'd say that definately stinks of being an ISP issue.

That seems rather odd to me. An ISP issue so selective it only cuts off uploads to a single site after they reach 2MB?

If this is even the case, how would I go about trying to get them to look into a potential cause?

The last file is on its way up.

You can change the individual file's names, descriptions and categories if they are incorrect.

Thanks for that. I've now updated things.

I'm a victim to this same problem as well. When trying to upload v1.3 update of my armory mod, I got "Upload process went offline, hopefully back soon. Your file is still being uploaded", then I attempted second turn, and then I got "Connection was reset". So I'm gonna try the method to mirror my file to the nearest available moderator possible, but I'm gonna upload it to rapidshare, then I'll PM a mod with the link.
