JimboUK
Anyone else make the mistake of buying this? I'd heard it was a bit linear for the first few hours but I never imagined 20 hours in I'd still be wondering down tunnels in a straight line.
Illiad86
It''s linear? Ugh  I gave up on Final Fantasy after they made X-2...man that was stupid.
JimboUK
You can't deviate from the set line at all, when you do come to a town your led straight through it in a straight line. Fight, fight, cutscene, fight, rinse and repeat. You can't control anyone but the party leader and you have no say in who the party leader is. Lord knows what the story is all about, they babble on about this, that and the other without bothering to inform the player what they're on about. There's only one character who isn't dislikable and he's useless in a fight. It's supposed to get better later on but nothing is worth what it puts you though for so long. Mines gone on the "should sell this really" pile along with the other rubbish.
Illiad86
yep, that's why I stopped playing the FF series long ago,I had a feeling they would totally ruin it. I read in a review that the "linear" part of the game only lasts 8 hours...what a bunch of liars huh? How is the music? For some reason I remember hearing that Nobuo Uemastu left and the guy that made that horrible soundtrack to Dirge of Cerberus is the new music composer. Yeah and this bullcrap: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fabula_Nova_Crystallis_Final_Fantasy_XIII How many games are they going to make out of one game? Seriously? JimboUK
The music is OK, nothing outstanding about it though.
Monolithic0117
Honestly, the only prominent flaw I saw in XII was the linearity. It was a good game, but overly linear. Being a big fan of the FF series, I can say that, in my opinion, linearity has no place in a Final Fantasy game. The rest of the games in the Fabula Nova Crystallis compilation, Versus XII and Agito XII, are action-oriented, which makes me worry about the direction the series is taking. JimboUK
I've ordered Resonance Of Fate, it gets decent reviews in Japan and looks quite good, I like Tri-Ace games anyway. It'll be worth buying just to find out what this is all about........ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vobp1r1BAzY

Trandoshan
Hmm, I ordered a copy of FFXIV before I heard all of this. I guess it sits on the shelf like X-2. Hopefully. that Crystallis Nova has a bit more depth. Or, it might be another Crystal Chronicals. @Overload I agree when you say that FFIX was the last of the 'Age of Final Fantasy', but I got addicted to thirteen quite well. My only qualms was that there were no 'airships' of any significant source for the player to control. I liked 13 mainly due to the fact that you had the option of switching the retarted main character out with one of the three better ones (Fran, Balthier, Basch FTW). Vaan was a little wuss, and Penelo never even saw the light of day. I can't say much about Ashe, but she did do well in the story.
Sinophile
It''s linear? Ugh  I gave up on Final Fantasy after they made X-2...man that was stupid. X-2 relied heavily on sex appeal, which IMHO was dumb considering the franchise had a large female audience. I did however like the class system, and the flexibility it offered, even if the storyline was lame. I hated XII with a passion, gameplay, storyline and all. However, FFXIII might be reason enough for me to buy a PS3(which I mentioned in another topic).
