The next rifle I buy will be a...

I don't know much about rifles but that one seems like a beast to me

I've been watching the development of this gun for a long time. I actually wanted to buy this rather than the Bushmaster AR-15 that I have today but it was not available back then.

While under development by Magpul, it was called the Masada. It is positioned to be the next replacement of the M16/M4 that the US military is using.

Here are some more clips about it.

Future Weapons preview back in 2008

Magpul testing it submerged under water. The design is fairly open (doesn't even have an ejection cover) because it does not matter if water, sand, dirt enters the weapon, it will come out and will not prevent operation.

Look at how easy it is to breakdown and rebuild the gun (imagine same process but swapping the barrel from .223 to .308...it is that easy)

One of the 1st end-user reviews

It is such a good design, it can even be done using LEGO blocks!

As a former Marine who actually had to fire a weapon after carrying it across a beach in training (M14 & .45) I love it. Get this beauty to the troops ASAP!

Will it even be available in a civilian model? I want the 18 inch barrel in .308 (7.62mm NATO)

Yes, it already is. But just like with the AR-15, availability will be an issue for a while as well as a high-cost but if the military picks it up, the price will drop to be close to an AR-15...maybe even push the AR-15 down a bit more.

Magpul sold the design to Bushmaster. Bushmaster got Remington involved to help figure out how to mass produce it. But basically, Bushmaster will be supplying the police and civilians. Remington will be supplying to the feds and military. So the military will know it as the Remington ACR and the civis will know it as the Bushmaster ACR.

It hit the civilian market in mid-April but is currently limited in options but as time goes on, there will be several more options available. I primarily want it for the .308 calibur and longer barrel but will also get another calibur (or two) for it.

Remington manufactured the barrel in such a way that it does not require oiling and the life expectancy has been doubled!!!

It's been a year since he put in the order, but the parts are really hard to get today.

I hear ya. I only just found a 3x magnifier and nabbed the only one in the store...which was about the 3rd that made its way into the store this year and they never sit on the shelf for long.
