It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time

The AraComplex meld-linked to Sanctum, being semiautonomous to it. The former Fringe Division people returned to the AraComplex proper with much data of the Cavern of Globes, including less dangerous items as provided by the Eternal One. The ways between the AraComplex, and Sanctum proper, were heavily regulated and secured.

The AraComplex absorbed other splinters, of its former larger self, across the Known Ordered World, in the Lunar Overworld and some other places including the Lunar Labyrinth and Junglenam. In Junglenam it was 'beneath' the strange fortified supercity of Hunkerdown City.

Traffic, mostly goods, began to flow through the AraComplex. This was fortunate for Hunkerdown City as it became suddenly besieged by a massive force of enemies, allied under the banner of an exotic monstrous leader.

'Exotic' entities began to appear in the general Known Ordered World, outside of the Havenlands and of the Terran Overworld. Humanity was amazed, fearful, welcoming and the mass media went into a frenzy. The Cellnetworks welcomed the new minorities.

The Internet was becoming increasingly more sophisticated as it worked through devices such as mobile telephones, palmtop computers, laptop computers, desktop computers and mainframe network computers. Super virtual reality, holographics and 3D were becoming more common. Remote-robotics was also becoming more common as was power armour for multiple reasons such as fire fighting and construction work.

It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time 114.1[172]

Focusing the Hunt

The 'hunt' came to an end as all trails led to dead ends or turned out to be false. Necrodol was suppressed mostly as a problem even as it was learned that more dangerous undead things, than zombies, could arise from its abuse; that is fewer ghouls or even fewer vampires or even more fewer lichs or other kinds, some being thankfully rare. A big surprise was that dreaded necrodol, if used carefully in very small doses, had beneficial effects medicine or industrial wise; yet many remained against its use under any conditions.

The Special Investigations Research Agency continued to have much work to do. It continued to have a whole department seeking out answers to the threat of the Great Enemy. It took upon itself many more focused projects and broader focused programs.

Armstrong spoke from where he sat at the big round table. "We have learned that much was done by a powerful group that actually opposed the Great Enemy and yet we have learned that everything was done at the orders of the Great Enemy. The two appear to directly contradict one another, that only one can be true, but I propose that both can be true. Those rebelling against the Great Enemy carried out orders that also suited their own purposes to do so."

As an aspect of the Eternal Seeker he spoke of a strong conviction but there was no obvious evidence to back his words up. It might, or might not, be true.

Such as Empress Amanda, Jack Harkness, Scully and a few others gave him the benefit of the doubt but not all at the table did. Garack was a b-cratic game player, an office politician of the nastiest and most cunning kind. Sent by an increasingly large faction, in the changing UN that was going through yet more reforms, he wished to take over SIRA and fill its command positions with his cronies.

He was charming, handsome, and yet his eyes were most cold. He smiled but it was an empty gesture. His voice was cold, arrogant and condescending. "Your words are empty are are your claims to being something called the 'Eternal Seeker'. It is time such nonsense was exposed for its true nature. It is time that the UN gained greater direct control of the SIRA that has increasingly gone rogue though it has used many UN resources."

Amanda frowned. "The UN has, at most, provided 25% of resources used by the SIRA. That has fallen away with the latest series of 'reforms'. The Havenlands have always provided the great majority of resources to the SIRA. Though the SIRA was created under the general mandate of the UN, it was created under the direct mandate of the Havenlands inside the UN."

Garack smiled. "The new United Nations Internal Security Council has officially removed Havenlands from the UN and because of that the SIRA is now no longer of concern to the Havenlands. The new reformed UNISC has taken over many such agencies and the AraComplex. There is nothing that you can do about it."

It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time 114.2[173]

Focusing the Hunt

Amanda shook her head. "It has already been done. The whole of the UN has been disbanded and a large scale international investigation has begun into its past activities, restructuring activities and the vanishing of a vast amount of valuable resources along with other forms of corruption. There will operate the Temporary Emergency United Nations, with a range of legitimate agencies with boosted funding, that have already undergone extensive auditing. Over 10,000 people are charged and are in remand prisons while over twice as many are charged and on the run. Over 23% of the stolen resources have been recovered directly or through the impounding of properties and other goods obtained through the use of stolen funds."

Garack shrugged. "You think that you have won but you are already defeated and you do not know it. The real threat are megafolk of all kinds including the Cellnetworks now rising through out the Known Ordered World."

Dana Scully shook her head. "Mulder, and I, became involved with earlier versions of the Cellnetworks and all they did was to fight the Cult Conspiracy, the Illuminati and other threats to the world. Yes, they have often fought for themselves but mostly in defense against unprovoked attacks by such as the iceminds, the multihumans and others who are AntiUnity."

Garack shuddered in a horrific fashion, gasped for breath but then spoke coldly again. "Your hunt failed and yet, what you hunted for, has always been right in front of you. Get the Havenlanders, all of them, to expose the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth to the world about their realm and themselves."

Captain Jack Harkness slipped out his powerful handgun and shot Garack in the head, killing him in such a way as he could not become of the undead. He looked to Amanda. "Perhaps that was a good suggestion."

Amanda nodded. "Yes, but the Empress only knows of the formal Havenlands of the Northern and Southern Polar Regions, along with some secondary areas such as some colonies in the rest of the KOW, in the edges of the Underworld, in the Terran Labyrinth and now in the Lunar Overworld along with in space close to Terra and Luna. We are the standard peoples of the Havenlands. We are not of the mysterious elites such as the Triguardians. A very long time ago the decision was made to have it so except for in extreme emergencies; perhaps that time has arisen?"

She shivered awfully, clutching her head, and then looked quite surprised. "The infestation is everywhere in the human, and other populations, of Terra. While it is in the Known Ordered World, it is thinner there. The true meaning of the word 'ordered' is not political, legal or social or even military but is about the structure of reality itself. The Known Disordered World and Unknown Disordered World are both heavier with the infestation and reality is less stable there. Havenlanders came here from another world but that world was this world in a far distant alternate future that was disrupted by the Timespace Event and the Timespace Transformation."

Then Amanda looked appalled. "The Havenlands do not exist except as part of Sanctum, being three large subsanctums of Sanctum that are known as the Havenlands. This is something Havenlanders know when we are in the Havenlands but we know only a false truth when we are not in the Sanctum Havenlands."

It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time 114.3[174]

Focusing the Hunt

Walter Bishop, genius scientist and formerly of Fringe Division, spoke out. "What of the colonies on the edges of the domed off Havenlands?"

Amanda nodded. "There are the genuine Havenlander colonies in the real Known Ordered World, the ones in the Lunar Underworld, the ones in the concealed Skylands and Sealands, the ones in space and a few others concealed? We call them the Outer Colonies. What lies at the Northern, and Southern, Central Polar Regions are inside great domes? In truth they are not Havenlands though they were once were. I can not tell you what those domes conceal or what is really down deep below the Terran Overworld or even the Terran Labyrinth."

Amanda: "A vastly long time ago we Havenlanders served the Great Enemy, back when it was not the Great Enemy, back during the closing era of the last Multiversal Grand Cycle. Back then we were a different people, of peoples, with greater power, technologies and much else. We served the Grand Celestial Godhood until it refused to end with the ending of the Grand Cycle. Much history is lost to us but we ended up in Sanctum and then on this world that transformed from the OldEarth into the NewEarth. We fear that the Great Enemy is here because it followed us here."

The LittleFatMan sat there almost as if he had always been there. Somehow the table was now big enough to take him and his chair with out changing. He gave a sad smile. "We, the LittleFatFamily, served the Grand Celestial Godhood, a deceptive unwise name, that became increasingly imbalanced as its destined end approached. In truth you Havenlanders served us, and did not serve that one directly. The Grand Godhood was not the GodGoddess of Balances. It arose out of the chaos of a great war, that is a war fought between Greater Heaven and Greater Hell, resolved in the creation of the Grand Godhood that supposedly brought harmony. It was a false solution carried out against the wishes of the GodGoddess and other celestial forces. Far from all of both Greater Heaven or Hell supported the decision."

LittleFatMan: "The Great Enemy has not been drawn here by you Havenlanders but by something that we, the LittleFatFamily, stole from him and which was then stolen from us by the GrandAncients. Perhaps we let them steal the Grand Celestial Artifact because IT had become a great burden to us after we stole it from the Great Enemy and used it to escape from IT. The Grand Celestial Artifact is linked to the Grand Celestial Godhood, that is the delusional name of the Great Enemy, and both must merge fully once more for the Great Enemy to regain much that it lost when the GrandAncients did it so much terrible damage using the Grand Celestial Artifact against it, along with everything else they could muster, which was an incredible arsenal of devastating power."

The meeting fell into quietness as all of them there, except for the LittleFatMan, tried to take in the implications of what they had learned, which were many and deep.

The LittleFatMan was gone, almost as if he had never been there, but he left behind a big stack of tomes, solid-state databanks, and much else on the table along with a truly huge stack of stuff in the same chamber that was of an amazing variety.

It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time 115.1[175]

Before Everything Changed: As Things Changed

The male Bobbie, with his own supersoldiers and other people, went to the GrandTARDIS. There were over 10,000 people who went with him along with many animals and other lifeforms. Plants were taken. His mother was amongst them, pleased to see so many given a chance to escape a dying human world despite that some things had improved. Others began to be accepted into the GrandTARDIS, to go to the ArkCore of the Arkzone to join those already there.

AlphaOmega supported what was happening though not all of the Timesages did. Chronos remained neutral, as did some other Timesages.

Male Bobbie stood looking out over a great green, blue, and brown landscape of forests, lakes, rivers and other geographical features. He was was more at peace than he had been for a long time. There were settlements, agricultural areas, but the service-support and industrial networks were almost totally underground. Others had opted to go to a more city like zone, though a very green and environmentally friendly one.

Bobbie spoke to his mother. "To forgive but it is hard now to remember what I have to forgive. I feel that I am almost splitting away from myself, am becoming another Bobbie altogether. I need a new name but what would fit? I like Robbie because it has some connection to the name Bobbie."

She smiled at him. "You are more at ease, we all are. We need to bring more people into safety but we need to be careful just who we let in. There is evil out there and it is growing stronger. We will have enough challenges here, according to the KaySisters and the TaySisters and also... you spoke with AlphaOmega."

Robbie responded. "Only with a holographic projection of him and only briefly. He made me welcome, along with my suspersoldiers. More supersoldiers, and those with them, are already coming here to the GrandTARDIS."

The sounds of, distance muffled, gunfire interrupted them.

It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time 116.1[175]

Before Everything Changed: As Things Changed

Robbie (formerly Bobbie), moved past some dying entities disguised inside power armour. The humanoid creatures had attacked with out provocation. They had come as 11,111 strong for they had come in an odd hierarchy of ranks. They had come supported by armoured gravity-craft and robots. They had struck by surprise only to learn that the ArkCore had long been preparing for such attacks but in a way as to surprise the first attackers.

A big dummy settlement had been struck by the enemies, a place set up to appear vulnerable but which was both a decoy from genuine targets and a trap. The dummy settlement had been set up to look very valuable and vital.

When creatures died, they were some kind of organic constructs that needed their power armour to survive, they were being quasiressurected and transformed into enhanced, adapted, more free willed, allied entities. From 'growlers' they were becoming 'gronoids' who could freely live outside of their special type of power armour.

Growlers were still out there, fighting savagely and with out any limits to who they killed or what they destroyed. Defenders fought them bravely, along with their robots and armed-armoured hovercraft. Figures in power armour moved through the burning, broken, fake settlement. Pulsebeams of destructive energy shot through the darkness. A big hulking robot exploded.

Of course it was a diversionary attack, whether or not the enemy knew it was a fake settlement.

Robbie, and his beloved supersoldiers, were tracking down the field command of the invaders. He hoped to capture some kind of mobile network-system to hack into and try to use that to back track to who was really in command of the operation.

The platoon spread out, but not too much, as it darted along a wide laneway. The enemy forces were being driven back. Enemy robots, and vehicles, were found to be surprisingly basic in design but also cunningly booby-trapped so they were dangerous if downed. Enemy hovercraft would act as basic attack robots if their growler crew were killed.

Two dolphet soldiers shot low through the air, firing of small multiple purpose smart-missiles as they did so, each having twin launchers for balance. They quickly dove low behind rubble, even before the missiles hit their targets, to avoid counter fire.

Then came supersoldiers, more of their own kind, along with other power armoured soldiers. Clusterbots were there but only remotely guided robotic kinds. The small ones were not allowed to go directly into danger unless it was an emergency situation; even then it was likely they would not end up doing so.

They were winning but, somehow, that was no surprise as if the real enemy had not expected to win that battle.

It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time 117.1[176]

Before Everything Changed: As Things Changed

Kaytee looked to be an attractive young woman, using advanced adjusted high-heel shoes of far greater comfort and far less damage causing than traditional kinds. The climate patterns, and weather, continued to go strange but were not the only things.

Gripper vines, as strong as good quality iron, had come smashing up out of footpaths, streets, and other surfaces to grow up the side of buildings. Surprisingly they actually made most building sturdier and more stable but expensive adjustments had to be made so that traffic could keep flowing.

ETEs had come, the mysterious Extraterrestrial Entities of the Aid Trade and Tribute Accord (the ATTA) in their globeships, globeboats and other craft. Humanity had no choice but to agree to the ATTA but it had come with much generous aid. The trade was also important as it meant the ETEs taking up, with amazing efficiency, toxic waste, land fill, abandoned machines, collapsing old buildings, toxic growths of algae and much else that they gave good aid and trade credit for. The tributes were largely more benign but a very few were not so pleasing to most of humanity.

British soldiers, and UN Peacekeepers, were on the streets after a peaceful rally had gone crazy violent and the British Police had been quickly overwhelmed. There were a few police there but most were recovering in hospital or at home or were trying to assess the situation back in their police stations.

Kaytee walked around a burned out a lightly armoured police car that was on its side. The burned remains of a police officer was inside it.

When a British Military Police Officer, a Red Cap, came to her the uniformed woman was shown authentic identification documents that showed Kaytee could be there, was meant to be there.

It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time 117.2[177]

Before Everything Changed: As Things Changed

The Military Police woman spoke quietly to Kaytee. "A few of us MPs think that this whole sad mess was a set up from the get-go. False protesters were amongst the most volatile members of the protest march, the young men from the slums of which there are far too many these days. The Civil Police are largely in agreement but the UN Peacekeepers are playing along with the facade."

Kaytee nodded. "Goes along with the real agenda of forces taking over the UN." She looked intently into the other woman's eyes.

The woman, who had a strong psychic-spiritual potential, looked startled for some seconds but then appeared calm. "Yes, it is time to gather as many, as much, as we can and go to that sanctuary through the means that you put into my mind."

The 'trick', that Kaytee had done with the other woman, could be dangerous and was safely used with only certain kinds of people; that is more strong willed, self aware and psychic-spiritual folk. Kaytee was not the only one of the KaySisters, and others, now spreading the truth of the 'sanctuary' of the ArkCore around the world. The GrandTARDIS had opened secured, concealed, temporary gateways in spots around the world and had marked many more other spots for possible opening of such gateways.

Somehow there were forces, outside of the GrandTARDIS, that not only knew about it but were trying to gain access to it. All those she had briefly mindlinked with had been warned of this threat.

A shot rang out and Kaytee's hand, and arm, moved so fast it was invisible in motion. Then she was holding a hot bullet that had been fired at the Military Police woman from a powerful sniper rifle. The woman looked stunned for a moment but then she calmed and just nodded. She remembered some of the information provided through the mindlinking with Kaytee, that Kaytee was far more than she looked to be.

Kaytee spoke. "Moura, I am going after the sniper. Please carry on as you are and then start doing, what is needed to be done, as soon as you can."

Kaytee vanished with a slight blur of motion.

It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time 117.3[178]
Before Everything Changed: As Things Changed

Kaytee found where the sniper had fired from but no traces at all of the sniper except a deliberate, well concealed, message left behind for her to discover.

'I was aware that you would grab the bullet and that the target would not be struck. My people are assisting you by protecting those going to the 'sanctuary' that is inside the 'you know what'. We have our own reasons for doing so. We are one of the factions of those who have come 'from the stars'; the ETEs are made up of nine such factions.'

Kaytee found that she 'believed the message', as obscure as it was. The messenger had not promised nothing that could seem to be too good to be true. The message had also given enough information that showed a reasonable explanation for the origins of the helping force, that is from the ETEs who could easily have the means to protect people. The use of a local type sniper rifle could simply be a way of not showing just what sort of more exotic tech that the said faction might have access to.

She communicated at once with the GrandTARDIS External Command Centre and was ordered to carry on with her work, which was most important. The next move would be to wait until, or if, the unknown ETE Faction communicated again.
