tried this out for a few hours tonight with some buddies, was surprisingly enjoyable

the good

-free, quick 2GB download

-released alongside with sdk

-netcode is great

-barely recycles hl2/source textures (wooden crates anyone?) ;]

-difficulty is scaled extremely well, can provide intense combat situations

-has healthy amount of unlockable equipment/weapons that upgrade as you gain xp/level up

-rouge behavior/rambo play style is severely punishing, players tend to stick together out of necessity

-weapon sound fx aren't bad at all

-particle effects & lighting look surprisingly nice considering its the source engine

-each class is unique with benefits that drastically affect outcome of missions

-again for a free game, its about as awesome as it gets, decide for yourself when you download & fire it up

the cons

-its too expensive ;]

Alien Swarm is a third person/co-op game from valve and its for FREE!

Addons or mods like insurgency or Age of chivalry requires source games like "Counter strike: Source" that u can play for free , but Alien Swarm is a non source game and

maybe when you get a new steam account without any games ,u will get this automatic ?!

I have Steam and I play many games there and what I can said is , that this game is awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've played it a little bit but without the unlocks it would be a pretty bland game. I tend to think that any game that relies on unlocks for its core "fun" is probably only mediocre at best. Decided to go back and play a spot of Bad Company 2 and will return to L4D2 for any co-op needs.

In a running game of Alien Swarm simply go to Options > Keyboard > Enable developer console. Then hit ` (to the left of 1) and type:

firstperson

asw_hide_marine 1

asw_controls 0

And then you can experience the terror first hand

For those of you who play mouse inverted like me: m_pitch -0.022

Seeing as you can't do the hacking minigames in first person, you might want to bind keys to flipping between the modes:

bind j "asw_controls 0; firstperson; asw_hide_marine 1"

bind k "asw_controls 1; thirdperson; asw_hide_marine 0"

There it is.
