How would you do?

So I was thinking the other day, how would I fare if I were somehow transported bodily to Skyrim and had to actually survive there. The answer I came up with was rather sobering: I would most likely be dead within a week. If I even lasted that long. Even assuming I would be dumped somewhere where I would be able to scavage some weapons and armor, I have no idea how to actually use a sword for real. I've never even held a real sword in my life. I know enough about swordplay to know there is more to it than blindly swinging the damn thing around, but that's about it. I know a little about archery but I haven't fired a bow in years, and even then I wasn't very good. I have no ability to use magicka (obviously), I know the basics of surviving out in the wilderness, but I most likely wouldn't be dressed for the climate so exposure could be a problem. My best hope would be to get dropped in a city where I could hopefully find work chopping wood or something like that.

So, my question to all you is this: How would you do if was you? To make this fun, lets say for the sake of argument that you:

a) Are playing Skyrim when it happens (makes sense anyways)

b) You are only wearing/carrying what you have on you at the time. So no being prepared with a shotgun and warm clothes.

c) You are a human from Earth. That means you can't ever learn to use magic or shout.

I know this is a rather pointless thought experiment, but I look forward to what you have to say just the same.

I've got most of the alchemy recipes memorized, I'd be Skyrim's most wealthy man in a matter of weeks.

Unless someone decides they want to rob me, I can't hold a knife without injuring myself sooner or later, so even one of those pesky thieves guild guys could run me through without breaking a sweat.

I would immediately use my one collector's Septim to move to the Imperial City in Cyrodiil where I would take a studio apartment and revel taverngoers with tales of electric lights and carts that drive themselves without horses. Later I would open a series of sandwich shops in each city and call them "McRabbit's" with two big golden ears arcing over the entrances. I would use my profits from that to cheaply buy up all the farmer's lands that was being spoiled by seeping oil and drop hints to the Council of Wizards about something called a "Ford V-8 engine". I would then live the life of Reilly until the Gods call me home. You bet I would!!

Chopping some wood, I'll sell it Gerdur, get some coins, gonna buy bow and knife from Drunken huntsman, gonna do some hunting every evening where animals makes it harder to spot you. After I have enough food, I would light a fire, fry some meat, a just when I'm about take a first bite, courier come to me and says: ''I've been looking for you, your hands only" and immediately ruin my dinner. Letter says: I'm sorry but you must get back home, please press ESC to quit the game. :)

Some very business-minded approaches here:

Just one question, do you really think you're going to travel all the way to Cyrodill and rent an apartment with one septim? I do like your idea though, it would be interesting to see how your stories of horseless carriages played out. I'm guessing most people would think you were insane  . Though now that you mention it, I know enough about cars that I could probably reinvent one.

Correction on c) You are a human from Earth. That means you can't ever learn to use magic or shout.

This is where you remember all those spiritual healing classes, metaphysics lessons on how to use and Chanel energy. don't forget all the animal invocations and meditations, working with your spirit guides, remembering all the spells from the book of shadows, all the herbal medicine classes, ext

Restoration, Alteration, Conjuring, Illusion, & Destruction magic is used in real life, where do you think they got there ideas from

How real do you want it to be? as a student you can go quite some way, but what happen when you give the game to the teacher......."remains silent"

Actually, I thought this was a pretty good question.

About a year ago I found out there was a fencing club/group where I live that has a qualified instructor in Historical European Martial Arts and who teaches German Longsword techniques.

I joined because being a TES fan I had often wondered about how hard would it be to handle a sword and it looked like a fun way to exercise. I was a bit surprised at the weight of the sword and believe me when I say my shoulders, elbows and wrists certainly let me know that using a sword isn’t the easiest thing in the world. I have gotten to where I am sparring now and it isn’t easy, but it sure is fun.

I have used a bow (a recurve/long bow) for a number of years and am reasonably proficient with it, so bow use wouldn’t be a problem for me.

Given the above, I could probably do OK – at least hunting for food and probably defending myself to a degree if I were to be transported to the Skyrim world.

Clothes might be an issue as winding up in Skyrim in pants, T-shirt and slippers might make survival a bit of an issue, but I am used to cold weather (prefer it actually) and I am quite capable of survival in the bush so I doubt that would cause me much of a problem. It would depend on where one appeared in Skyrim.

Showing up in Haafingar, Winterhold or the Pale might make it a bit more difficult, as would the Reach, but show up in Whiterun or the Rift, it might be somewhat easier to survive.

I would certainly get to a town, preferably one with a mine or a mine nearby as I would think one could easily find a job (menial for sure) that would provide a few septims a week and at the very least room and board for work. I would think that gaining skills, such as blacksmithing, would not be overly difficult either as the owners would most likely readily take on a helper in exchange for instruction, so gaining rudimentary skills would be possible.

Careful excursions in the immediate area of the town would also allow one to gather plants/ingredients to sell and given the country side in the game one could easily run across a weapon or some item that could be sold to raise funds or used to further one’s advance to becoming an adventurer.

While it may take a few years, I think I’d probably make out pretty well as an adventurer in Skyrim.

With respect to your New Age ideals, I've never seen anyone shoot a fireball from their hands, cover themselves in a magic armor, or cast a spell that instantly healed all of their wounds, in real life.
