I didn't like the ending of the mainquest. why should martin get the glory of killing Mehrunes Dagon when we did all of the fighting?

You're Luke Skywalker, Martin is a proton torpedo, and the Temple of the One is the Death Star exhaust port.

That'll do, Pig. That'll do.

Wouldn't Mehrunes Dagon be the Death Star exhaust port? Torpedoing the exhaust port blew up the Death Star. Killing Mehrunes Dagon ended the Oblivion invasion.

Any-hoo, I'm sure (infact I know) it has beed said, but the entire main quest sequence:

The entire campaign was handed to you on a silver platter. You were spoon fed the entire way. Your quests mainly consisted of Fed-ex quests, but even then, they told you what it was you needed to get, where to get it, and how to get it. The end was particularly frustrating. I did all the work, but what is my reward? A piece of scrap metal called "armour" and a bogus title that doesn't mean anything. I sould be the new emporer! I did all the work! I stopped the Oblivion invasion! But noooo, I'm not of Septim blood so I can't be emporer. Look at the real world. Look at the real empires. did one family rule for all eternity? NO! There where many dynasties of different blood lines. It all worked out in the end. The longer the Elder Council waits to ponder what needs to be done, the closer to rebellion the territories get, and they're not real stable to begin with. If we don't get a new emporer soon, ME, everything will collapse, and there'll be anarchy everywhere. :excl: :excl: :excl:

...sorry, I got on my soap box again...I apologize.

Well, I liked the main quest and all, it wasn't that disappointing. I thought the fight between Dagon and the Avatar of Akatosh should have been alot longer and alot more epic though. Maybe it should have been in a small move form or something.

Oh, and also:

Lockpicking needs nimble fingers, so does pickpocketing. I can sorta see how both are related.

I hate that armour in the end... the 'Imperial Dragon Armor' was it? Useless hunk of heavy armor.

I wanted mounted combat D: or at least casting spells on your horse. Dual wielding of weapons would have been nice (Ebony blade + Goldbrand = Pwnt)... I hate two handed weapons though. And also, I wanted to use my feet in Hand to hand combat, I didn't like the idea of punching alone.

It's called hand-to-hand. You would excpect to use your feet with a name like that...lol

However, I do wish we could kick...it would make a martial artist seem more...martial artist. I hate the way Bethesda completely disregarded hand-to-hand >:( . The most damage you can possibly ever do with your fists is 11. 11! That's another way the game is one-sided.

Hand-to-Hand essentially has a built-in Damage Fatigue effect, so while you'll be dealing less damage, your opponent is losing the ability to inflict godly amounts of physical damage with their weapon. Then— they get knocked down and you get to continue pounding.

I hate battle axes in Oblivion. That is not to say that I hate battle axes in general— just the ones in this game that completely block the right half of the screen while in a first-person view. That's a blind spot I could do well without.

That is true...to an extent. At level 48, the enemies have so much fatigue, that it makes no difference.

3. Having to dismount your horse, the slow way, before attacking. I refuse to use horses most of the time just because of that. There ought to be an option for a quicker dismount in combat- i.e. if you hit, say ctrl-use instead of use alone, your character vaults off the horse, consuming fatigue but able to jump right into the action. Without that, horses are either a huge inconvenience or a very good reason to run away from every single encounter.

Horses are pretty useless and weird in every game I've played. After all, they are the middle ages verion of an automobile or tank, and are terrifying in combat, and can jump and steer themselves to a large extent, sometimes too much so! I've ridden horses that have decided to brush me off on a low level branch or barbed wire, or just jump a fence without any warning. Falling off horses is fun! Being dragged by a stirrup as the horse goes downhill even more so.

They don't usually run into trees or off cliffs, and can be trained for combat. I think a skill where you can figh on horseback similarly to your "heavy armor" skill would be appropriate and give you access to lances or horse mounted bows. Sure, maybe you'd need some sort of legendary mounts to fight against the harder monsters (a constant fee to pay for upkeep?) but fighting on dragonback is a huge theme in fantasy and would give you somewhere to go once you reached level 50... working your way to flying the hugest, nastiest dragon in Tamriel!

because the basis of monarchism is the idea that other people are appointed by god/s to rule; merit has nothing to do with it.

Of course you could seize power, kill martin, and force the church to proclaim you the legitimate heir; that's pretty much what happened throughout history.

I found the quests very linear and there wasn't much scope for roleplaying or tactics. You could be appointed responsibility for the lives of the soldiers in the fighter's guild quest, but have no power to give them orders, for example. I think planescape was the best so far as quests went, with baldur's gate running a close second, and oblivion is a visually goreous console game with mostly tedious quests (with exceptions such as the dream and the painting quest).

I haven't got to the shivering isles part yet so can't comment.

I would have liked to be able to individualise the homes more easily. Havok physics make for fun vandalism but even putting a broom against a wall is maddening. Placing my own posters or earning better static decorations would have felt like an achievement; maybe trophies on the walls.

Conjured creatures that didn't vanish so quickly, could be conjured ina mini horde, balanced by a continous drain of majicka to prevent abuse would have been more interesting.

More specialised classes; i felt like everyone just turned into a jack of all trades.

Enemies running backwards on uneven surfaces, casting fire bolts and shooting arrows; grrr, who thought that was a good idea?

The thief/spy/assassin mehanics had potential but every time you had to protect npcs, you had to ignore stealth as they would gleefully charge ahead to their doom. You couldn't stealthily slit daedra throats, and snipe the casters. I know a lot of people just cheat through the console to keep them from kamikazing but a little thought into giving the player an option to go solo would have been nice.

You were essentially alone. NPC dialogue was mostly repetitive and unhelpful. I missed planescape and BG2 companions, with depth and flavour. I know people make mods to get around that but most of them are just weapons platforms not people.

Oh well, I enjoy the game but it's a shame there's such a focus on graphics over story in the industry now.

EDIT: Merged your posts.

3) The Gray Cowl reward for the theives guild is useful but I can't use it that much. I get some good loot from my latest dungeon raid and can only carry it with the Cowl on. But when I get to the city I have to take it off or fight a lot of guards >:( ! When I take it off I...CANT...MOVE!!!!!

Use the Bag Of Holding Mod, I never leave home without it.
