It Seemed To Be A Good Idea At The Time (Redux)

She held out a compression datadisk. "According to this we, of XFiles and Fringe, are characters in a modded, hybrid, virtual reality 3Dcomputer game. We, as characters and factions, came from different fictional origins as did the UNPSIA and the supersoldiers along with others. Yet we are real, as far as I know, as far as I feel. This is most puzzling and disturbing."

Other such compression datadisks were being passed around and it was known that those datadisks had been the ones 'absorbed' by an ancient alien artefact of the AraAncients. Not much of the story was known. The J-Triplets had begun to remember more of what happened but were still missing many memories and others were vague.

The one hybrid game contained the grey aliens, the glowing spheres and much else known to the histories of the home world and its moon.

Another virtual reality game focused on the PanAxis, the Zaztek Empire, the undead and an alternate World War Two but had links to the first CDD's content.

There was another CDD of a mixture of games, interactive encyclopaedias and other programs.

There was a CDD with Plastic Green Soldiers and other related games along with game related programs.

There was a CDD with software programs for 3Dsolid printers and many 3Dtemplates for the same.

Other CDDs were still being investigated.

Nobody seemed to how the CDDs had come to be in the chamber.

Suddenly the Rainbowman was there, almost as if he had always been there. He frowned softly and spoke quietly but everybody heard him. To all he spoke in the best known language of each person. "The Shadowman placed them here in order to assist you to deal with what has become a powerful enemy of himself along with you and myself. There is a better way."

He filled the great chamber with shimmering rainbow patterns of energies. As all came to full awareness once more, they knew intrinsically much more; the Rainbowman was gone, almost as if he had never been there. Yet the information had to be 'strengthened' by being used.

Many were soon busy analysing the great deal of data available. They were soon running straight into a paradox that had emerged before. More than one timespace event had taken place but each of them, all of them, could only have taken place because any, all, of those timespace events had happened.

The True Eternia, secondary prime mentality of the True Eternals, functioned in the ever trans-shifting, ever evolving, home dimensional realm of the True Eternals. That is a realm that mortals could not exist in normally, let alone understand.

The True Eternia understood that there was falsehood in the story of the J-Triplets trying to halt the game data being inputted into an AraAncient power artefact that was one of their Grand Artefacts; it was also one that was most mysterious in purpose and nature. That made it 'like' the AraHeart, the AraKeys, the AraCores of the AraComplexes and others. It was called the AraNexus.

The True Eternal was getting closer to what had really happened as it solved other mysteries, found more answers but often found new mysteries and questions to answer.

It was coming clearer, to the True Eternia, that much that had been taken for granted, as the truth, was a falsehood; much was, more dangerously, part truth.

Just over 100 years had passed since people, communications, things ceased to come out of the supercities that merged to become Labyrinthburg. While many folks had entered such places, never to return, most staid outside and in the rest of the Known Lunar Labyrinth. Rejuvenating influences, the need for survival, the push for expansionism, had led to a big population boost. It had also led to the idea of regional independence from the Supercitites, as they were soon being called but not all agreed with such ideas, largely for pragmatic reasons; if, when, the supercity people came out again, they would be an overwhelming force that the Regionals could not compete with.

Field-Marshal Abdul Abdula was much older but did not look older. The field-marshal had well earned his promotions through leading a series of decisive campaigns against the rebels. He was observing enemy movements from the top of a large hill with the help of powerful scan-binoculars. Of course he was well concealed in a low built post, was on his belly in exopower armour, including helmet.

He had sympathy for the Independence Factions but knew they were bound to fail in their illusions of total freedom from the supercities. As it was the Regionals had kept being supplied with electricity from the expanding, evolving, Labyrinthburg. There had appeared dispensers of goods, of services, and some more exotic 'things'. Using apparently free credit, the Regionals had gained much from such sites even if convoys had to go and obtain them, often doing so for a great distance.

He was also highly suspicious that at least one of the smaller 'UWG' Colonies had been secretly pushing the rebellion and supplying them with resources including personnel.

The Guardia had kept mostly loyal to the UNLLG, based in a series of non supercity cities, but many had deserted to join rebel forces.

There had only been sporadic fire for some time, small skirmishes in the area between the two forces. had learned that a 'summoner' was serving the enemy by materialising 'monsters'. The creatures were giant plastic-flesh, perhaps plasticants, spiders that were equipped with weapons and other devices; that is great pincers, venom injectors and actual guns. The guns fired regenerating projectiles or bolts of elemental energies. They were appearing in increasing numbers and varieties of types of units.

When the firing increased, coming from the other side, he was puzzled. Reports soon came to him, from stealth-drones flying over enemy territories, that spider creatures were attacking their supposed allies. Not just the big, medium and small ground creatures but stranger flying ones and swarms of even small spider creatures. Strangest of all were 'spidernoids' being upper half humanoids and lower half eight legged bodies using a range of guns and other weapons.

Why were the exotic spider plasticants attacking their 'allies'?

Suddenly the Rainbowman was there, almost as if he had always been there. He tapped his rainbow walking cane lightly against the ground. "It is time for you to know, fully, that you are an aspect of the Eternal Warrior. The supreme commander of the enemy, one Field-Marshal Mark Clouse, had a young woman summoner abducted and tried to force her to summon military units to build up the Independence Factions forces. This was a foolish move as she suffers from mental illness, despite the rejuvenating influences though they help her, and she caused the spider creatures to appear. They have rescued her, their queen, and now are attacking those that betrayed their beloved monarch. I suggest that you contact her after the cube is activated, and causes changes, which will take only seconds.

He passed over a small rainbow cube to the field-marshal, who was coming to terms with his other identity. It was far from a real surprise, for somehow he had always 'sensed' the truth; as he took the tingling cube in hand, he was dealing with the implications of the discovery.

There was a great spreading flash of rainbow energies, emanating from the exotic rainbow cube. When Abdula awoke the Rainbowman was gone, things had changed, the spider plasticants were allies and the other enemies were dead, fled or his prisoners.

High above a great aeroship flew slowly across the sky, emblazoned with the emblem of the new AirGuardia, of the LL Guardia, its armoured hulk dotted by weapons and instrumentalities. It was escorted by smaller AirGuardia aeroboats and hubcopters.

Around them stretched hills dotted with thornplants, as was the situation before, but now there were also other types of plants, seemingly greener and friendlier in nature. Exotic AraStructures dotted some hills but while large they were far from overwhelming in size; their purpose was not obvious.

The relationship, between the True Eternals and the Rainbowguardian, was greatly complicated and yet subtle. The same could be said of the entities themselves. The True Eternals wondered that the Rainbowman had been able to detect, and fully activate, an aspect of the True Eternal Warrior. The strong, subtle, impression that they gained, of the situation, was that the Rainbowguardian had been guided, assisted, by another force. Was that the RainbowBaby?

Field Marshal Abdul Abdula was accepting of his true nature. He was able to take advantage of his abilities and other resources. The Spidernoid Queen was soon peacefully sleeping and being cared for by a team even as the 'monarch' was carefully guarded by six spidernoids. Other, smaller, plasticant spider creatures lay with her on her bed, comforting her; she was comforted by those creatures that no longer represented her nightmares but were her beloved followers.

Jennie, Jessie and Jonnie were once more focused on doing cybernetic interactive work with the ancient AraArtefacts. They were in a chamber almost identical to the one where the incident had taken place with the compression datadisks being absorbed by the ancient artefact. There were other supersoldiers, superworkers, superkeepers and superists (super specialists). There were even some supermals (super animals). All were kinds of metaclones, being metafolk.

They had banks of computer hardware, other hardware, special furniture and fittings along with some decorations. As they worked they had the company of many superbugs and fewer supernoids, the squat humanoids assisting with carry work to bring new stuff into the chamber.

Huge 3Dflatscreens filled with data displays even as they were activated.

Jonnie studied one of the newly installed screens and was puzzled. The data symbols were not of any kind that the J-Triplets had studied in the past. Yet, somehow, he found that he could understand them. The implications, of what he was taking in, were disturbing. He spoke. "Will others view the data that I am getting here?"

Jennie spoke from another part of the big chamber, fronting the great AraArtefact in its center. "Am already doing so. Indications are there have been many changes to the Known Lunar Labyrinth over the last 100 years, much of it more recently, and that it is still taking place."

Captain Armstrong stepped up to Jonnie's side to stand there studying the same data. "I have been in contact with Field-Marshal Abdul Abdula, supreme commander of the LL Guardia. He is also an aspect of the Eternal Warrior, as I am an aspect of the Eternal Guardian. The Regionals, people who spent the 100 years outside of Labyrinthburg as it grew, just had a civil war between those wishing total independence and those thinking such was an impossible notion. It appears that the rebel factions were secretly supported by some covert force, perhaps from one of the UWG Colonies."

He went on speaking. "The major point was that the rebels sent exotic local resources, in return, for the support along with any research information they could find on the Lunar Labyrinth. Certain factions sent captives to an unknown destination but this turned most of the factions against them and they stopped doing so. After that the supply of assistance halved."

Jonnie responded. "We picked up that the rebel factions are surrendering or retreating into more isolated zones; some are breaking up and scattering into hiding."

The captain snorted. "A limited amnesty has been declared but it is now highly suspected that some rebel factions were riddled with biozays or even unfriendly biovires. Some factions may have been fake, being made up of unknown enemy forces. It is time that the Three Colonies were carefully investigated."

Jonnie nodded. "We have a solution for that. Our cousin clone-triplets being Jannie, Jozzie and Jokkie. They could lead a large taskforce of 'metaclones' and others to the Three Colonies. No official communications have been ever undertaken with those 'colonies' and nothing much is known of them."

That was a strange, but true, fact. Even the actual locations of the UWG Colonies were only vaguely known of.

Captain Armstrong gave an ironic expression. "Just how many of you superclones are there now? I doubt that the normies, even those of rising unity, know the truth though some might suspect your numbers are very high."

Jonnie shrugged. "Over one billion! We made an agreement with the RainbowGuardian that we would serve a given set of purposes and that we would assist you True Eternals if you needed us to do so. We help protect the Rainbowbaby and her great entourage. We know of the AraGuardians who still exist here in the LL, now being based in what we consider the supercity of Labyrinthburg. You, of course, know the truth that none of these vast structures are really supercities but that they give supportive shelter to many, not just humans and those with us. We are a form of unity. We have our own shared secondary mentality. We are hybrids and inside us are exotic genetic influences such as biovire."

He went on speaking. "In a transdimensional world live most of our people, along with others. It is vast and much of it is semiwilderness or, even more so, wilderness. It also has a great underworld, its own great labyrinth and three moons. I suspect that you know of this."

The Eternal Guardian shook his head. "I am but a mortal aspect of the True Eternal Guardian and am limited in my abilities and knowledge. Yes, there are False Eternals but we will not speak of those unless we very much have to do so."

Jonnie did not press the issue. Instead he spoke to Armstrong of the hidden world of Sanctum that had many normies living there, amongst others. In doing so he quietly informed the Eternal Guardian of something that had surprised even him.

Jonnie sighed. "Inside the Lunar Labyrinth 100 years have passed. Outside it has been much longer and there matters of changed far more greatly. Most of the normies, of Sanctum, are refugees from Terra and Earthtropolis. Others escaped from what is now known as the Lunar Overworld and from Spacetropolis. They came to us, through timespace, often with strange and terrible stories. Not all, out there, is terrible. Then there is the Lunar Underworld and, beneath that, the Lunar Coreworld. Such as the selenites dwell in the Lunar Underworld, along with other 'alien' peoples, but most different is the Lunar Coreworld where life, as we humans would know it, can not even exist."

Armstrong nodded. "That last part I did already know of for, as the Eternal Guardian, I have been to both."

The Rainbowbaby suddenly appeared, almost as if she had always been there, and was holding a very small rainbow sphere. She was surrounded by single coloured floating babies, including supersoldier types, superbugs and other small entities. Except this time the Rainbowbaby seemed troubled.

Jonnie, and Armstrong, studied her with concerned expression and then nodded almost as one; they agreed to carry out the wishes of the small one. She glowed with joy, smiled richly, and activated the rainbow sphere.

Across the Known Lunar Labyrinth there was recontact between those, who had been inside the ancient expanding body Labyrinthburg, and the Regional Known Lunar Labyrinth. Out from Labyrinthburg came mostly authorised official forces but some unauthorised groups did get out. Much of the latter were made up of people trying to make recontact with family, or others, knowing rejuvenation and longevity made that more than possible. The results of such expeditions were varied, sometimes sad, sometimes happy, often mixed.

Strangest was recontact made with minorities of humans who had shifted in their very nature. Most of these were positive, welcoming, in nature but some were dangerous and supersoldiers had to intervene a few times.

True Eternals arose to assist being avatars of the Eternal Carer and the Eternal Slayer. These avatars worked with supersoldiers, and other superclones, dealing with twisted human entities of cannibalism and worse.

There were other troubles, most caused by standard humanity, and some exotic but mostly the situation was surprisingly positive, at least in the more central areas. It was a different matter in the more isolated areas of the KLL.

In the upper levels, of the Known Lunar Labyrinth, where it was always of lower gravity, a patrol of Guardia Borderguards moved towards a great Airgate. It had been closed for just over 100 Terran years and there was no expectation that it would be open now to what was assumed to be a vacuum filled zone.

In exopower armour, the Borderguards moved quickly and efficiently. At times they had to deal with bandits, with rebels or with new threats of creatures that had appeared over the last 100 years. The creatures were usually easy to frighten off, the bandits were not much threat and the rebels tended to be demoralised since the rebellion was quickly crushed.

Well lit by glowcrystal, but not harshly so, the tunnel was large and festooned by growths of glowmoss clinging to its damp walls. They followed a tunnel river, flowing down one side of the tunnel, its waters effected oddly by the low gravity. Large fish were seen, quickly, as flashes of silver.

Which was when they came upon the bloody scene of a former savage battle having taken place. There were the scattered dead bodies of what must have been bandits but also one, almost hidden, other body. This later was like an elongated human with longer limbs, altered feet, who was naked except for a loin cloth and leather webbing of pouch dotted belts that also held other items.

The bandits had been looted but the single, exotic, human had his items being a large revolver pistol, a bolt-action rifle of the same ornamental elegant make, very long bladed knives, odd shaped bottles of tough but light materials and the pouches.

Then it was discovered that the elongated, lower gravity adapted, human was alive though wounded. At once a medic began work on giving him first aid while. They took many recordings of the scene and took sample items. Soon they were heading back the same way that they had come from. The secured prisoner was kept as comfortable as was possible. They did not reach the Airgate, as they had intended to do.

Nor did they fully detect the three odd figures following them though there were Borderguard veterans, in the platoon, who had a 'sense' that they were being tailed. They reached the nearest multiple purpose outpost and it seemed that the followers vanished away.

First indications, of a changed Lunar Surface, met with amazement and some scepticism. Teams moved to Airgates between the two realms and soon realised that outside was a lower gravity atmosphere realm just as the upper levels of the Known Lunar Labyrinth were. The United Nations Lunar Labyrinth Government at once began attempts to regulate movement, interaction, with the rediscovered realm. There were many good reasons for this such as the influences of organised crime and attempts to sell loperfolk advanced tech including weaponry.

Underneath this excitement lay the deeper one of learning more about what had happened with the home world, Terra. Upon reaching the Lunar Surface it was hoped that much data could be achieved of the home world.

Understandable assumptions were made by labyrinthfolk such as the time that had passed on the surface since those in Labyrinthburg had first gone into status but a few were open to stranger possibilities; it was these later who proved to be correct.

When the black orbs began to appear, in floating swarms, they were met with many superbugs and strange battles began. Soon the fighting was joined by supersoldiers, squat humanoids and others including plasticant spider creatures. Scully dreamed, vividly, of such fights and so did others. Waking from a troubled sleep, she showered while Mulder stood watching her in the bathroom that they shared as a married couple.

She spoke even as she stood in the soothing jets of water. "The Rainbowbaby was altogether too accurate in speaking of something very powerful, very dangerous, and very malignant being out there in the Lunar Labyrinth. Many thousands of the shaze-orbs are destroyed but they continue to come in great numbers. Supersoldiers have died, spider creatures have been destroyed, superbugs have vanished away as their energies have become totally depleted. The shaze-orbs fight by stealing life-energies but, if this does not work, they attack with bizarre energy weapons."

The rainbow orb had been activated but its effects had been subtle, largely hidden and were only starting to become clear in their nature.

Scully sighed. "Get in with me, Mulder. You can be useful and wash my back."

Mulder gave a mild grin and soon was in the big shower-bath booth with her. "What of the plasticant soldiers?"

Scully nodded. "They are moving into position to protect areas that... strategically are not obvious in their importance but which are vitally important to protect because they are somehow linked to the real nature of what we think of as being the supercity of Labyrinthburg. It is not a supercity any more than the other so called supercities are actually cities. That we can use them, as such, is a gift to us as it is to others."

Mulder dutifully washed her back plus other areas lower than that. "Question is why now? Why are they are attacking now, what are they seeking, what are they and who sent them?"

Scully turned to hug her husband to herself. "Not who, but what, sent them? Everything that has happened, before this moment, has led up to this and other surprises to come. The transformations, the Terra to Luna Exodus, the..."

The Rainbowbaby floated into the booth and into the shower. Scully began to wash her small back. Other floating babies were soon there, along with superbugs. Cats came into the room and began to settle down away from the falling water except a couple that loved getting wet.

Mulder sighed. "Why do I get the feeling that it is the Rainbowbaby that is trying to protect us?"

Scully nodded and began to wash the Rainbowbaby's tummy. "I have the same feeling."

Jane Scully, and Modestia Blaise, were 100 years older and had spent those years away from Labyrinthburg, out in the Known Lunar Labyrinth Regional Territories. Jane was soon to be heading off to meet her parents, who had wanted to meet her as soon as they had come out of status. Modestia, who was close to the Maharg Family, would be going soon to meet with Graham Maharg.

Before that they reported to Juno Station, that had been a Maharg Institute. Somehow the Maharg Family had maintained full aware despite the influence of status normal to those in Labyrinthburg. Yet they had also kept their operations low key in the Regional Territories. Jane Scully, Modestia Blaise, and superclones had assisted many to find sanctuary in Labyrinthburg.

There had been some trouble, savage fighting, but surprising much of the time had been spent with more mundane tasks, with out so much excitement.

In Juno Station they were briefed on latest discoveries, theories, and other bits of information on the on going investigations into a wide range of operations, as carried out by a wide range of organisations, that had taken place in the past. They were far from the only ones in that big, important, meeting.

The Shadowwoman quietly observed the great black, blood red, orb floating high above a valley full of dead-dying thornplants. It was vomiting forth a cloud of black death-orbs, of the same kind fighting to get into Labyrinthburg, fighting a range of enemy forces to do so, including superbugs.

The Shadowwoman had a cloud of pesky superbugs floating close to her and to show them how annoying they were, she would feed them snacks, give them water, pet them and protect them.

She was angry. Shadowfolk, like she and the Shadowman, were of the 'darkness' but they were influenced by the Greater Balances. These black orbs were not. The super death-orb continued to spew out more of the far smaller death-orbs but then ceased. The smaller things, of death, began to leave as a swarm.

The Shadowwoman shot out both hands towards her targets and streams of sparkling energies flowed from her fingertips and struck the death-orbs. At once both the super death-orb, and death-orbs, exploded violently as they were destroyed. Destroying a super death-orb was a big blow against the great enemy but Shadowwoman knew that there were too many other super death-orbs out there, each causing much death to build up their energies, then using those energies to create many smaller death-orbs.

She went on hunting for more super death-orbs, led by superbugs that kept on helping her track down her targets. Even as they did so, the tough thornplants began to recover and other life began returning to the big glowcavern. The dead were recycled, as was nature's way.

Graham Maharg had dealt with the transformational effects, the passing of 100 years in the KLL, easily as did his clone family, followers and others. The expansion of Labyrinthburg across the KLL had largely ceased but Labyrinthburg had evolved, transformed, especially in some special areas.

Graham Maharg had communicated with the Rainbowbaby though not sure how that had been achieved. It was just one of many things that he took on faith, that he did not question too much. The Rainbowbaby was strongly secure inside RainbowSanctum with the assistance of many exotic factions, including the so called Maharg Empire.

Graham Maharg looked out over a cityscape that had changed in a fair few ways but not in all ways. He looked through a window made of what might be called transparent metal. Exotic spiral-towers stood next to massive skyscrapers that were actually of very exotic materials. Hundreds of hubcopters, aeroboats and other aircraft flew through the air including a sprinkling of antigrav transports.

His personal assistant stood quietly to one side with a gentle smile. Like him she had not visibly aged at all since before most had gone into status inside Labyrinthburg. Like him, she wore only a light bathrobe; they had bathed together in a big sunken bath complete with spa jets and other nice extras.

He spoke in a voice not very loud but easily heard by her. "Is anything that I do, that we do, of any real importance? Does it have any real meaning to it?"

She responded quietly. "You do what you need to do!"

It was the only meaningful answer she could give.

One 67.1[106]{106}

A large taskteam travelled across a great suncavernland, that had somehow grown larger during the last 100 years. The five large hubcopters, and one medium-large flight support aeroship, were accompanied by escort drones, subsonic jumpjets and gunship hubcopters. They were headed towards one of the places where plastic-android soldiers, along with other plasticant forces, were dug in to guard a great low table top mountain. Why they were there, doing so, was not really understood by the UNPSIA, or other factions like the UNMSIA, but clearly the plasticants were following an obvious pattern in selecting certain positions.

Captain Armstrong was studying a 3Dflatscreen on his laptop computer. He was in the aeroship, in a command chamber there, that was busy communicating with various sites in the area. Disturbing reports had begun to come in of signs of strange activity; there were sightings of swarms of death-orbs, often fighting superbugs and supernoids or other forces including supersoldiers and plastic-androids. But there were also black humanoid creatures with death-orb like heads that used their death-orb attacks but also a selection of bizarre blade-energy weapons. Yet the oddest were armoured humans with strange death-orb like helmets that were probably more than helmets.

Captain Armstrong found that he knew of the humans, that they had been enslaved for generations and adapted to serve bizarre and cruel overlords. They had the same kind of bizarre blade-energy weapons, as the death-humanoids (deathnoids) did, but a few had large bolt-action rifles tipped with long bayonets.

He was the Eternal Guardian but was often frustrated by the limited amount of information that he gained through 'special channels'. Yet this time he was gaining more such as that the regional environment, in the past 100 years, had seemingly become more hostile to certain kinds of entities. Certain kinds of creatures, plants, were attacking the death-orbs, deathnoids and death-humans. That meant that the swarming invaders were being picked off even as they made their way through the fringe zones of the Known Lunar Labyrinth, often suffering losses at the very edges of the swarms where their numbers were least and more spread out.

Captain Armstrong also felt frustrated that the Known Lunar Labyrinth was being challenged, in many ways, already with out facing the bizarre invasion. The Regionals were still getting over their civil war and the Supercitites were still getting over being in odd sleep like states, of no apparent change, for 100 years.
