hardkopy
Of course Bethesda Obsidian didn't have to ask modders permission to use thier mods in creating NV becuase they ( Bethesda) already own the assets. I played the game from start to finish (still have a heck of a lot quests to complete thanks to the game xtension mod) but NV is rife with FO3 mods from weapons to npc's dancers and general gameplay. It was like running through an FO3 mod museum. (Enter the troll) I wonder if the modders got credit for thier work?

Bethesda and Obsidian do not port content, they see an idea they like and they redo it their way, i've no problem with that, ideas are free you know. Bethesda wouldn't do this but lets say they did for arguments sake just take a mod from fallout 3 and use it as there own work, There is nothing the author could do about it. They Own the game and the Geck would love to see the look on a judges face when this is brought before him. When it comes to Mods being reuploaded and taking credit for work you didn't do I seriously doubt you have a case since everything is owned by Bethesda anyway. It's still morally gross and hurts the modding community other then Nexus banning it I do not really know what else can be done. If there is a fallout 3 mod you wanna port and it doesn't say absolutely no, just message a moderator and get there opinion on it.
Ghogiel
[When it comes to Mods being reuploaded and taking credit for work you didn't do I seriously doubt you have a case since everything is owned by Bethesda anyway. No they do not. the license only ( and can only) extend to content created in their app, in this case the GECK. They do not and cannot own any of my art assets as they are completely independent of them.

Madae
However it seems there is a certain type of gamer who thinks porting someone elses work is somehow equivalent to creating you own mod and expects the 'prestige' that goes with having a mod on TheNexus. Please don't make generalizations like that.
FrostFlake
Just accepts the authors terms and asked for permission. I ported a Halo mod from Toxa01 of FO3 and asked him if I can upload the Halo mod myself but he said no so I respected his wishes. I'm not mad at his decision but grateful that he replied and didn't make a fuss over it. If you created a great mod and plan on uploading or not uploading, wouldn't you be mad if someone took the fun from you and created a silly version of your original mod. Even if it was exactly the same as your mod, it is still not their decision to make.

It is open and shut. they cannot use my art assets without my permission. as creator, I own the copyright.
FutureVisions
lol. It is open and shut. they cannot use my art assets without my permission. as creator, I own the copyright. Nop. But they can can base themselves on a mod that has been done and recreate it from scratch. And I'm glad to see that they actually pay attention to what people do here to improve on their own work. I also agree with their decision of not making it easy to port mods over from FO3, im guessing, as a way to promote creativity.
