California Impending Fiscal Demise

As a life long California resident, I say let us fail. The other 49 states should not have to bail us out for the idiotic policies of our own out of control progressive government. Overpriced real estate, insanely powerful teachers unions, massively overinflated education budget (60% and climbing, WTF legislature!), the mentality that only raising taxes can fix things, you name it. Then we go off and approve a ballot measure to remove the only protection against really ludicrous policy by enabling budget issues to pass with a simple majority? This state will never see the end of waste now.

There's also a 3rd rail in CA politics that nobody ever wants to acknowledge - the presence of a few million illegal aliens. If we'd stop handing out benefits to them the state would be in far better shape. There's no reason an illegal should be getting welfare or social security (they do get it btw, before someone calls BS on this - look it up) or in-state tuition benefits or any of it. Rewarding criminal behavior is ludicrous. We need an Arizona law here desperately.

Aren´t those the very same aliens that also do manual labour, at very low salery, and long hours, with no rights? Sending them home (if you can say that, some were probably born in CA, and call that home). Sending them home would definitely break the unemployment curve, as well as the CA labour structure. Who should do all low payed, long hour manual work in CA in the future, if all of a sudden millions of workers were to be send away?

It would provide employment opportunities for Californians who would then be paying tax rather than receiving welfare, one sure way to reduce the deficit.

We had that very same debate here in DK. But do natives wanna work at that very low salary aliens do? I think not. You will just have another illegal migration.

Or get rid of the lazy good for nothing Californians who wont do that sort of menial manual labor and keep those hard working taxpaying politically disenfranchised illegal aliens that's a sure fire way to come out ahead.

Simple fact is illegal and migrant labor accounts for over 60% of the labor involved in US agricultural output ,get rid of them and US agricultural output would drop by half ,food prices on your store shelves would immediately double and numerous state economies would collapse and about 500 million people around the world would be thrust into near famine conditions ,getting rid of all the illegal aliens would be an utter disaster and no solution at all

They will if their welfare is cut.

With the risc of getting off topic I might say, I do not know how it whould effect CA. It definitely did not work here in DK, when conservative government cut the welfare period from 4 years to 2 years. The only ones who got more work to do were the lawers and brokers, to help out all the enforced house sales.

No, according to how our laws have been interpreted by the courts, the ones born here become citizens automatically. It's what's known as an "anchor baby" when illegal alien parents give birth in the US. It tends to grant the parents the right to stay here in order to raise the child and as a consequence most of these people drop out of the labor force and become full blown professional welfare recipients. It becomes a vicious cycle as they soon realize having more kids means getting more money from the state.

In order to solve the problem here in California, the courts need to wake up and realize that the 14th amendment was not intended to be an "anchor baby" system. It was intended only to grant citizenship to the newly freed slaves after the Civil War.

As for the labor force argument, if all the illegal aliens left, the farms wouldn't just shut down. The farmers would hire locals instead, or legal resident aliens, or quite possibly invest in more automation. They certainly aren't just going to fold and walk away.

This problem isn't just limited to California either. We just happen to be the state hardest hit by it while at the same time being the only state seemingly unwilling to do anything about it. Which makes anyone in government who complains about even having the problem a hypocrite.

Then I will admit CA have a problem with the law. It was never an intention that wellfare should be payed out, unless one can absolutely not find a job. Where I come from you have to prove, that you are without a job and that you actively search for a job. You can not sit idle and collect money from the state. Period.

CA might perhaps need to look though the laws, since of cause, there will allways be some freeloaders, no matter where you are in the world. But I am sure that most people want a decent job and a decent payment and pay there taxes so they can be proud of themselves and their country.

California is no different to anywhere else, low paid illegal aliens do not pay enough in taxes to support bone idle natives. We've got exactly the same problem in the UK where under the last government the vast majority of newly created jobs went to immigrants while a large number of the indigenous population sat around on their backsides watching daytime TV and getting drunk. Thankfully the new government is starting to address this by cutting the welfare of those capable of but unwilling to work, this alongside a cap on immigration. The issues facing California are no different to those facing the entire western world, we've been living beyond our means for years, the money has run out we're starting to have trouble getting credit to continue as we were, something has got to change.
