There are 3 Star Wars movies. ONLY 3. No more, no less. Anyone that says otherwise is a deviant whose mind must be expunged.

TIP: expand the catergory and let's make this a real debate, you should include atleast StarGate Atlantis and SG-1 and WarHammer 40,000, aswell as probably StarCraft, STALKER BattleTech, Halo, and a few others just to cover your bases. With this lot, you'd limit the left out, cranky fanboys to a few, but with only two you leave yourself against legions.

Well out of the two, I preffer StarTrek.

William Shatner really gave something to science fictions with Kirk, an iconic character that almost anyone could like, able to do serious or humorous with great effect, an icon of modern cinema and television.

I also preffer StarTrek because I preffer darker, more dramatic storylines.

The "good always wins" theme is a trope across almost all science fiction, but it's so present in starwars that the series loses almost all sense of suspense; with StormTroopers seeming literaly incapable of hitting a barn door at three inches, evil villains who simply want to convert the good guys to their idealogy, and a setting I have dificulty believing I just cant enjoy StarWars like I enjoy other scifi.

Star Trek really appeals to me, as an audience member and a science fiction author myself; it's so much more well rounded, so much more human, and has much better good vs evil.

But my overall favorite is WarHammer. It's the roughest, darkest, most dystopian universe I've ever read; it's heroes are darker than StarWar's villains; and good and evil is a much more blurred line. The Eldar for example are, though unpredictable, sometimes work for the good of humanity; humanity however seeks only the Eldar's annihilation as a race in revenge for Eldar-Human conflict; and simply because of the undying hatred for all aliens that very Space Marine carries.

Characterised by it's immortaly grim quote "there is only war; while the enemies of the Golden Throne still draw breath there shall be nor can be no peace; until every alien abomination has been slain there can be no beauty; until every nonbeliever has faced The Emperor's justice and been purged there shall be no reprieve. Alien, Mutant, Heretic, all must be cleansed from the galaxy in The Emperor's name." and set in an unendingly dystopian far future in which a constant war has raged for 10,000 years, it has an unpralleled level of scale or depth, and also has some of the greatest variety and most human characters.

From a writer's perspective I chose it even more than these two others simply because it's such an evocative genre; it draws on themes we can all understand, and has the perfect mix of military scifi on a grand scale, and more intimate, personal stories of individual characters in the service of the grim, merciless Imperium Of Man.

Star Wars was cool, but it's just kind of repetitive after the 6th movie. I think the prequel series is 'cooler' but the original trilogy is better story-wise.

I could watch Star Trek for the better part of forever and still find it interesting. Between the two, Star Trek wins in the long term, but if I could only watch it once, I'd chose Star Wars.

Star Trek for me, I do like Star Wars but it never pulled me in like the Star Trek universe did. It also didn't suffer from the ham-fisted writing and direction of George Lucas, it was even strong enough to withstand Rick Bermans best attempts at screwing it up. In fairness they shouldn't really be compared, they are too different. Star Trek is science fiction with technology playing a central role, Star Wars was more of a fantasy, almost a fairly tale.

I found Star Wars more of a western set in space, though highly imaginative and visually stunning at times it never grabbed me the way Star Trek did. Though separated by large distances several friends and I coalesce together to watch the premier of each new trek film, my only hope is that the new directors don't screw up the franchise as Enterprise did the television series.

I'm not sure which I'm going to vote for yet, but here's my basic thoughts:

-Star Trek TOS: I like it but I haven't gotten as immersed by it as I have with TNG.

-Star Trek TNG: This one is my favorite!

-Star Trek VOY: It's bearable to watch but not as good as the first two.

-Star Trek DS9: Haven't seen it.

-Star Trek ENT: I didn't like this one.

-Star Wars Original Trilogy: My favorite, even though the first Star Wars film I've seen was Episode 1.

-Star Wars Prequels: Episode 1 was good, but I didn't like the rest.

I like aspects of both Star Trek and Star Wars and would like to see a series and movies based on a combination

Beam me up teleportation from Star Trek

Robots from Star Wars

Armour from Star Wars but making it power armour and more people using it

A 'Federation'

Light-sabres, of course.

Energy shields.

Replicators and holo chambers from Star Trek and holographic projectors from Star Wars

Androids as with Data from Star Trek

Star-fighters from Star Wars

The cool shuttles from Star Trek

Starships from both

Deathstar?

But no ewoks.
