dangman4ever
Are we talking voice modulation as in how an iPhone's Siri talks?
HybridVAudio
IMO, if no voice actors are available, I would prefer to just read a wall text rather then having to listen to my GPS asking me to go kill a cave full of Super Mutants, just saying.
templeofninpo
Would murmuring with inflection (re: charlie brown adults) be too much?- more lore breaking than no voice at all?
templeofninpo
Are we talking voice modulation as in how an iPhone's Siri talks?Sort of. I use MorphVOX Pro. There are a couple voices that aren't that bad but there is no escaping 'oh this is a modulator'.
tomm434
I'd say voice modulation but I've heard many people saying that "I deliberately deleted all sound files for N companion because I didn't like her voice". On the other hand - people don't like silent companions so it's a story about 2 chairs.
bethjunkie
Voice modulation is fine if the characters are robots, androids or Stepford wives. For normal everyday humans, it's too jarring to me. It screams, "HI I'M A MOD!"
madmongo
I personally hate silent mods. I would much rather NPCs have a crappy computer generated voice or a modulated (changed) voice than no voice at all. I always put computer generated voices in my mods if I don't have a voice actor available. However, I know that many people find them annoying, so I also put instructions on what files to delete if they want to get rid of those voices. TheSHO1BANG
Personally, I'd be fine with just the text. Voice modulation is something I find weird and it just breaks the immersion for me.
2much4l1
http://www.nexusmods.com/dragonage/mods/4134/? The link is to a Dragon Age adult mod with machine speak. I think there's a dedicated group of modders using machine voicing. The mod was quite enjoyable. A lot depends on the writing and the story you're trying to tell. If using computerized voicing is more comfortable for you I would encourage you to do it.
