Oh easily, you think about what sorts of targets our weapons of today are up against: aircraft carriers, bunkers, tanks.

If I was to pick something out of the US arsenal to seriously smash up a Daedric portal, I'd take either a Tomahawk cruise missile or a Long Range Anti Ship Missile, both are non-nueclear, high explosive weapons designed to blow the bejebus out of big durable stuff. If an LRSM can wound an Aircraft Carrier, it can sure a heck bust an Oblivion Gate's chops!

Secondly, in Washington DC you have the Potomac river, and the Potomac is deep enough to allow Deep Draught vessels to go along it. You could simply have a WW-II leviathan like USS Missouri cruise down the Potomac and blow the portals to Kingdom Come with her mighty artillery. I doubt ANYTHING could stand up to good ole Missouri up close.

THIS my friends is why you DO NOT mess with the US Navy. She may be outmoded, but this iron giant's got enough firepower to kill Mehrunes Dagon twice.

Or how about this? with a magazine the size of a Volkswagen Beetle, this terror of the skies is the GAU Avenger. A seven-barreled gatling gun firing a huge calibre, exploding bullet at 4400 round a minute and above, this behemoth is the ultimate tank shredder!

Okay, I finally decided to poke into this thread.

I voted stalemate/enclave/no, though I probably should've chosen badly for the first one. The Brotherhood pretty much has the super muties contained, and the daedra, if anything, would be even easier to deal with. Also, super mutants seem to hate anything that's not themselves, a centaur, or a ghoul. The daedra would face not only the human factions, but the super mutants as well. These alone would be a significant, likely insurmountable obstacle.

The Enclave, with its advanced armor and weaponry, would simply mop the floor with any daedra. Magic armor, weapons, and attacks did the daedra little good in Oblivion and would be even less effective against the energy weapons and power armor sported by Enclave and Brotherhood soldiers. If nothing else, the daedra could be taken out at far greater ranges than they could retaliate from. The daedra's only advantage would be numbers, but once someone figured out how to close an oblivion gate... (well, someone human. I'd bet a super mutant would be the first to go into a gate, and probably even the first to close one)

And obviously, if it happened in our modern world, it calls to mind something Admiral Yamamoto once said. "In the first six to twelve months of a war with the United States and Great Britain I will run wild and win victory upon victory. But then, if the war continues after that, I have no expectation of success."

In the daedra's case, it'd likely be a matter of days or weeks, rather than months.

You have to notice that deadra are all organized in one group, while the enclave, brotherhood, and the rest of the wasteland are quite split up.

I could see the enclave just hiding out in their bunker to wait for the brotherhood to be weakened so they could take over.

Even so, the Enclave would emerge victorious. The Brotherhood may end up squished in the process, but the daedra simply wouldn't stand a chance.

As for the wastelanders...

Depending on where the gates popped up, any number of settlements would be in peril. The more fortified ones (Megaton, Tenpenny, Rivet City) could probably hold against a single gate right up until they ran out of ammo. Their survival would depend on if anyone would try to destroy the gate, and if they could figure out how. The weaker ones, like Big Town and Canterbury, would fall easily. Underworld and Lamplight might luck out and go unnoticed. The Lamplighters could retreat into the vault if the Lone Wanderer's been through, and could probably even seal themselves in well enough the daedra couldn't get to them, though that has its own problems. Underworld has no such place to retreat to, though the ghouls might be able to blast their way into the nearby metro and escape that way.

The fate of the wasteland would rest entirely on either the BoS or Enclave figuring out how to close a gate. They have the tech, organization, and discipline to relay that info and put it to use. Once that happens, gates would start dropping like flies.

A variation of the original question: what would happen if the daedra invaded to take on the New Californian Republic and other forces in Nevada including Boss and Ceasar's Legion? This includes the Brotherhood of Steel hiding in the area.

Well New Vegas factions are larger and more organized.

To me it really goes down to the following.

1. Would they be able to enter the gates, or would they be new gates that are one way?

2. Could the gates be disabled from the outside by destroying the arch?

3. Could they disable the gates after going in if they could get in?

The wastelands have a limited population, and the deadra are unlimited if the gate stays open. If they can not close the gate then I think the deadra would win without question in the Mojave wasteland and The capital wasteland.

I think Caesar's Legion would have a fighting chance assuming they didn't all try to go melee on the daedra. Why? Quite simply, they'd be more likely to enter a gate. Caesar wouldn't flinch at the idea of sending men inside. The NCR would have to wait until someone volunteered.

2. Could the gates be disabled from the outside by destroying the arch?

If gates could be destroyed from the outside, well... that just makes it a done deal for either the Mojave or DC. The daedra wouldn't stand a chance.

I am trying to figure out why you can't destory it from the outside...

It looks like its made of the same stuff that deadra armor and weapons are made from, and dead weapons are armor get damaged so...

I think if you launched a few rockets at the gates they would be gone.

Which would have course lead to an extremely quick Brotherhood or Enclave victory in DC, and if nothing else, they'd never touch the Boomers in Nevada. XD
