devilpengui
Watching a lot of movies and playing quite a lot of games, I wondered why do the police and military use those half-head helmets instead of full helms? http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/0e/ACH_005.jpg Vs http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100331012938/fallout/images/7/77/FNV_NCR_wallpaper.jpg http://www.gamingmoments.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/killzone_again.jpg I mean, don't they seem a very least more effective than those half-helms? Can someone enlighten me on the reason why we still use half helms over full helms?
Aurielius
The simple answer is hearing ability and weight, situational awareness is more important than than the limited additional protection that your latter examples provide.
antonkr
If you are shot in the face even with that mask its still gonna screw you up, unless its sharpnele (spelled wrong)And as someone else said it gives better senses of the surrounding in a full helm you would be limited in vision. devilpengui
I see. Those answers seem plausible enough. Thanks guys.
MonsterHunterMaster
Also, you would see MUCH less (sry, to lazy to google up some words, u know what I mean)Also you can move much quicker (like looking to the side n stuff)
Vindekarr
The main reasons are vision and technology: Right now if we made a fullface it would give slightly better protection, but the weight gain and vastly reduced situational awareness would probably cost more lives than it would save. On the other hand if we could A make a helmet that was actualy bulletproof rather than bulllet resistant, and B add systems that would maintain or improve situational awareness, THEN the positives would outweigh the negatives. And besides, fullface look cool and we all know governments hate their civic servants looking cool!
Maharg67
The full face examples look to be of technologies far more advanced than we have now. At least one is power armour, which takes care of the weight. Most likely both have tech enhancemeents for the senses (situational awareness) including both enhanced senses and additions such as motion detectors to guard our backs. Of course they should be far more resisstant to damage than our armour is. Also if such armour was needed, our current helmets may not be good enough protection any more just as we have replaced steel helmets with kevlar helmets. Also I agree with Vindekarr, the full helmets do look cool.
HellsMaster
its not about looking cool or not or agility or shiz its about fear.. a normal helm you can actually see the face whereas a helmet its intriguing.. they look faceless
