ninja_lord666
Because that could lead to leeching. Might be possible to use a reverse Turing test, or do something with variable file paths (requiring that the downloader go through the mod's page), or some such. But at a guess, this would be more trouble than it's worth. Ah...I was unaware of that. That being the case, I have no quarrel with keeping the extra members. SPAM (Stupid, Pointless, Annoying Messages), in its purest form, is what can cause a forum to clutter up with nonsense. A moderator would then have to be appointed, and functions quite like the po-po, if you will. They're the ones that uphold the rules of the forum by diciplining those that do not abide by those rules (spammers, flamers, trolls, threadromancers, forum vigilantes, etc.). It's easier to have someone keep order, than to have to write up a complicated web code that may or may not be as effective. It might become stressful for the moderators at times, but someone's gotta do it. Therefore, if we had a minimum post count which members would have to attain before being allowed to d/l anything, it would be quite literally SPAM Hell for the moderators  . Such a system is just completely impractical, and would require an entire team of 24/7 moderators to keep everything under control. It could be fun just to do it for an April Fool's prank and then roll back the system the next day, but apart from that, no way. :P

All the spam...for nothing.

So people creating an account for downloading don't get a forum account which won't be used. Or they are one account, but when the user hasn't posted anywhere (besides comments) at all the forum part of his account will be deactivated. It can of course be activated again later. We need an April Fool's prank! News headline: Due to lack of money gamingsource will be: closed next week/for supporters only.
Dark0ne
In order for people to comment on files they need a forum account. It's all inter-linked.

IamBatosai
Lol, besides look at our total post count. We have plenty without the very large number of people that are here for mods. EDIT: We would have almost 1,000,000 posts from those people if they had to post 3 times. Hmmm, hey Dark0ne is that Gaia Online still having that race?
