There seems to be a major problem with settlement building using mouse & keyboard

Go try and pick up something in build mode and carry it somewhere else. You can't. Or command a settler and try to lead them to the eother end of the settlement to assign them to a job. It can't be done.

Using the keyboard, you can't WALK while in building mode.

Maybe this is just the crazy way I've remapped my keys, or maybe very few mouse & keyboard users have actually experimented playing with the controller and just don't know how it should be done. With the controller you can move completely freely even when in buiild mode. This allows you to fine tune placements of objects a lot better, move things long distances without having to go in and out of the build mode, and of course assign settlers to their positions. It works flawlessly.

I just wanted to bring this to the attention of the forum so that---I hope---it will go on someone's To Do list. Believe me if I knew how to do this I'd have done it already. I'm also aware that the editor and/or script extender plus relevant functions may have to be released before this extremely annoying oversight is fixed.

Thank you for reading.

Okay then it has to be how I've set up my keys. Thank you guys.

EDIT: I just tested with default keys and it worked. Previous I had remaped to arrow keys for movement.

So . . . thanks Bethesda. You really went all out for the PC controls on this title.

Maybe fromsotware had a drink with them or something.

My keyboard is AZERTY, thats what this country uses thats what I grew up with so I'm used to remapping Z and Q all the damn time. I'm with OP here, got a lot of issues that where not present in Skyrim. (for those who wonder, US keyboard gamers use WASD, AZERTY gamers use QZSD as its the same place )

I'v found multiple things either not working or just illogical. In the build mode I can move, I can move to the right with D, and X will make me run forward so I can sorda manipulate it to work, but its not convenient to say the least. And really shouldn't be this way at all.

If I could play with a controller I would but that's just no option for me personally, I have tried to get a hold of a QWERTY keyboard and currently can't spend the ungodly amount of shipping costs -_-

Although I don't have his problems, I am still with the OP. You have to go into build mode very close to your settlement and then walk to where the scrap is - you can't just scrap stuff by going into build mose wherever you find it. When this is combined with the imbalance of getting 2 steel from a coffee pot and only 20 steel clearing a house down to its foundations this becomes a problem. In addition, when the walls of a house are still standing, you can neither select nor scrap it. Then you are wasting steel because you have to overlap wall segments that refuse to lock in correctly. The entire building section needs work.

It's definitely an issue with remapped keys like what OP is getting because I'm getting the same issue.

My preferred movement keys are WERD not WASD. When I go into "build" mode in my settlement my E and R which is my forward and right won't work because pressing those will input "up" and "right" in my build selection. It's annoying because I have to revert my movement keys to something else for the time being.

Same thing happens when you highlight a cabinet or drawer, the E - take and R - transfer conflicts with my movement keys as well.

I really hope someone makes a mod for full keyboard mapping for those input

Nah, the interface is broken all over. Not only is it inconsistent (what exits? Tab, escape or enter?), but some of the controls "overlap."

Try to go up a menu level in construction and Dogmeat walks in front of you. Do you go up a menu? No, it says you cannot command this character. If you're too close to another construction object, it picks it up.

It's just broken as designed. It needed a lot of work.

And, of course, if you have a non-US/UK keyboard, or remap anything significantly, the interface breaks like sugar glass. It's a joke.

Hopefully people will be able to improve on it with mods.
