i have a issue with the process of getting the game client to accept mods.....ok so stay with me i will go over step by step what i did

first i have steam and i have the full game client installed

i downloaded and created an account with the nexus mod installer\manager

i followed the updated instructions on how to get the game to accept mods, through the various "falout4.ini" files via "MYGAMES"

i chose a couple of mods and activated them

mod manager indicated they were installed an running

attempted to open the game and it would not start

figured no problem i will just uninstall that mod and get something else

tried that and it still didnt work, tried without any mods and the game wouldnt load

went back into the files the instructions told me modify, and removed the the lines i was told to wright, and saved

game still wouldnt work

so i said screw it and deleted the game client from steam

an d then i redownloaded the game ,figured i just screwed something up no problem

so i went into the files to do as instructed and now the file "FALLOUT4CUSTOM.INI" IS NOT THERE

but the game works now and my saves were not corrupted but i cant seem to correctly get modds to work without that file.........WTF do i do now PLEASE HELP A NOOB

go to settings and check if you are installing your mods in the right folder. it should be your fo4/data/folder.

otherwise uninstall and reinstall the mod manager.
----
Fo4 requires you to change some settings to accept mods because of an update by Bethesda.

watch this video to enable mod support.

You have to launch the game 1 time without any mods before you have custom.ini

you change the fallout4.ini file in the fallout folder in steam and the [MYGAMES] folder.

I've made the changes already but still, the things that trigger that message don't work, is it because they are older and require the deprecated edits?

Latest version of NMM and Fallout 4

Bethesda updated the game and broke mods, you have to change settings before you can use mods.

Fallout 4 says there are missing files when I load a game, and horrorshow, all my settlements are borked with missing mods that all show installed in NMM.

I tried the restore protocol but apparently the backup file was never generated, would have been nice to get a prompt on install if that was something I was supposed to somehow know to do.

Anyone have any advice?

This is the second time I have had a problem with NMM that cost me hundreds of game hours in restoring settlements (sorry that is where the fun is for me) and I am now thinking that it isn't worth the risk anymore to use it as it seems to have a very different agenda than providing a stable management platform to enhance my game enjoyment as my problem appears to be with NMM rather than with any of the mods themselves.

Is there some install/reinstall protocol I am missing aside from reinstalling all the mods, which I tried but to no avail - still missing content and borked settlements.

You probably removed a certain mod that was required for the settlement you created and it broke the settlement.

I edited the ini files for fallout but for some reason all my mods are gone when I go in game. The mods worked before but when patch 1.3 came out everything got messed up. NMM still has them checked off when I got to check (while fo4 is still running). Any Ideas on what I should do? Edited by THEDUCK123

Try to start the launcher using the one in the upper left corner of the NMM.

Didn't work, anything else?
Also my mods disappeared from the mods tab but the plugins are still showing, this might be part of the problem. Edited by THEDUCK123
