Skyrim Racisism Sucks

Well, there's Inconsequential NPCs by Ripple.

Here's the description of what will happen to non-Nords upon trying to enter Windhelm:

Under the rule of Ulfric Stormcloak, Argonians and Khajiits are prohibited inside the walls of Windhelm. But apparently, the guards don't give a crap, they would rather hunt you down like a skeever for killing a farm animal. With 'Inconsequential NPCs', there is now a guard at each of Windhelm's gates who will actually enforce the law. You will be harassed by the gate guard upon entry to the city. If you are an Argonian or Khajiit, you will be promptly informed of the law, and the gate guard will attempt to escort you outside of the city. Everyone else will be given a race-specific warning to let you know just how much the Stormcloaks appreciate the presence of foreigners in Windhelm--except Nords, who will be able to come and go freely. This is not madness--this is Windhelm!

Also, I believe this mod adds some nasty Thanes to Ulfric's banquet hall that make racist jokes about Argonians and Khajiit.

That Mod is Depressing and Boring, theres no life in the New Voice Actors/NPC's

The New Windhelm Guard Part is fantastic though, but i want more towards my Character.

I chose to play as a High Elf and went straight to Heimskr, yet he treats me as Normal as everyone else.

Avulstein Gray-Mane doesent even acknowledge the fact that im a High Elf trying to save he's Brother FROM the Thalmor, like helloooooo.

Its like being an Imperial and everyone treats me as normal.

I dont want New Characters, i want the Vanilla People to have Changed Attitudes towards the Race Player.

Its like your a fully dressed Police Officer with a Citizen walking into a Gangster Bar where they treat you like a Friend, but they are beating the Crap out if the Citizen.

Unfortunately that is unchangeable. If Bethesda ignored casual's who want to join every guild, and finish every quest without anything stopping them (in other words, people who are not playing these games as RPG's) then we would have things like this built in. Sadly, the casual player is the dominant force in the games market - so we lose. The problem with Bethesda's games have always been a lack of any real place. Of course, it's not just casual's. Many "hardcore" players muddle things too. Everybody wants freedom to do whatever they want, so in the end you get a world filled with things that are wildly different in tone. Racism is one such thing. One second you see characters or read books that touch on the subject of racism, yet you can be an Elf or Argonian character who fights for the Stormcloaks. Bethesda is too afraid to take a stance on things, so they let the player feel special. What I'd like to see from future Bethesda games is that the player character is more inconsequential. Centre of the universe characters really kill the feeling of a real world in my opinion.

Heh. I hear you. I can walk into Castle Dour wearing a full Stormcloak outfit and take the Imperial oath. -And can keep wearing it through the whole Civil War campaign. Would be wonderful if someone could find a way to mod NPCs so that they actually react to what race your are and what you wear.

Just saying, Kajits aren't forbidden from entering cities, just the caravans, and that applies to all cities, not just stormcloak ones. I think it is a similiar case with argonians, they can go in the city, they just can't buy a house/there aren't any houses availiable for them to buy. Also, look at the quotes from Belyn Hlaalu and Nyraneye if you really think that Skyrim is that racist. Also, if you join the Stormcloaks as a non-nord, you can ask Ulfric or Galmar(i forget who) if they only accept nords, and they say that they don't. While this may have been built into lore because of casual players, it is still lore, not just a game mechanic.

Kind of a pity, daventry, as the mod More Racism In Windhelm does take care of your gripe in a nice way. It's a pity Bethesda didn't follow through on the Nord xenophobia, it could have provided a bit of challenge to the sameness of everywhere.

But nords like hard working folk. Like the altmer and the dunmer that owns a farm. They are not really racist per say.

It's not like Jarl Ulfric Trump wanted to build a wall around Skyrim or drive the Dark Elves and Argonians into the sea. Bethesda probably realized that if you had Jarl Ulfric Trump wandering around Skyrim reciting such nonsense, that would not serve to increase his popularity with the Stormcloak supporters. What Stormcloak would believe such tripe? Right?

As Boombro says, "But Nords like hard working folk. Like the Altmer and the Dunmer that owns a farm." I am certain that the Jarl would consent to their staying If they pledged themselves to Talos, and agreed to sell their crops only to Nords at a discount. With their meager but honestly earned gold septims they could stay at Ulfric Towers and Casino to do a little gambling. Heck, if the Jarl was feeling in a generous mood, they might even be allowed to use the main entrance.

Yeah, xenophobia rather than overt racism, more specifically targetting Dunmer refugees. Not that I want to exhume this dead horse and flog its carcass but some good old-fashioned, cabbage-soup-and-mead jingoism would have suited the Stormcloaks because that's how a rebellion is conducted. You have to stir up nationalistic sentiments which, by default, means marking everyone who is 'Not Us' as 'Them'. On Earth or Nirn, I imagine the rules of this game woudn't change.

I suppose they diluted it because it would tip player bias in favour of the Imperial faction and Bethesda did make a concerted effort to keep the Imp/SC pros and cons quite balanced. /shrug
