What's with the 12-y.o. female textures?

It isn't the nudity or the type of body that is being shown. It is the way that certain mods are being marketed that bothers me.

Many, many, many great artists in the past have made paintings and sculptures or the human form both male and female. It was commonplace in the art of Ancient Greece and those that followed all the way up to the Dark Ages... which are so called 'Dark' partially because of the self imposed censorship and ignorance that kept the people in that age from being intellectually progressive.

There is nothing wrong with the human body, *gets on soapbox* and for the most part modern culture needs to learn to stop shaming people for having curves or not having curves or not doing well enough to hide the fact the you do/don't have curves. There is no reason people should feel shame for having a body, we all have them. I think a culture that puts shame on nudity promotes an unhealthy body image in people and as a result turns people to an extreme to fill the insecurity that it builds.

Much in the same way that our culture shames healthy touch out of fear. When children grow up thinking touch is bad, they end up filling that deep rooted human need with unhealthy touch like unhealthy co-dependent relationships, abusive relationships, and 15 year old girls being knocked up by guys in their 20s.

I think creating shame about being human is what really leads to the extreme problems we see, and it can't be answered with more shame of the original subject. *gets off soapbox*

But the point is, the human form can be beautiful art celebrated by all, but not all modders package it in such a way. What I am against is the modders that package and promote their work as if it were the cover of a porno video, like they are just trying to appeal to the sleazy aspect by having the tits be front and center across the banner or the centerpiece being a large HD picture of a vagina.

There is nothing wrong with vaginas, half the people in the world have them. But it is when you start objectifying females because of this that it becomes wrong and distasteful to me.

So in my opinion I don't think the Nexus should censor mods or anything, but they should make those particular mod authors put up a different less tacky screenshot if they want it shown on the front page of the website. Blatant censorship is rarely the answer in my opinion.

As mod users, I think it is our job not to support or encourage in any way people who promote women as objects as opposed to people or glorify rape in any shape or form.

While I agree with you on society and body.image problems in general, I disagree with your stand on how people market their mods. I appreciate if mod authors use clear marketing (naming and screenshots in this case) cause it makes it a whole lot easier for me to find what i want and avoid what I don't want. If a mod author makes a mod that's all about cartoon'ish boobs and high definition vagina then by all means put that in the name and banner. You can take all the tasteful, classy screenshots you want and put a fancy name on it but it won't change the content of the mod. The only thing it will do is make it easier to confuse it for something it's not.

So yhea, if someone's made a mod that basically turns the game in to a playable porno, then why not market it as such? It may not be your cup of tea, and it's certainly not my cup of tea, but it's someone's cup of tea.

And while I understand and agree with your argument that objectifying anyone (not just females, really it goes both ways) that's a problem. But we also have to realize that objectification and discrimination is at it's core a political discussion, and do we really want or need the nexus taking a stand on these type of things? Especially when they've already provided us with the tools to avoid seeing things we don't want to see (personally I always keep the "nude" and "anime" tags filtered out of my search's cause I'm not inclined to use the content in either or those tags), and they work very well.

There is the beerbelly/fat mod for Skyrim, one of the best and most honoust imho.

It's the times, today we have a view of what's supposed to be beautifull brought by commerce. Slender woman, metro males, eat healthy, work out, have a sixpack, etc. all supported and promoted by most goverments to live a healthy life. If your not any of the above basically you are looked down upon while in reality 90+% does not and will not ever look like that no matter how hard they try. That image we see all around us each day is what people try to recreate and perfect in their imagination.

It's a trend in mods apart from the anime factor, since the "fantasy/distopian" teenflick movies. Buffy was first, then the Hungergames, Divergent, Twillight etc came along. What do they portray? 16-17 year olds kicking ass in tight suits. The actresses are older though so it's distorting the view, Lawrence was 22 when she portrayed Katniss, and she's hot, 95% of sixteen year olds do not look like that.

And then there is the psychological weird factor, all those actresses are hot and legal to date and more, you are physically atracted to them and that's fine, but they are portraying 16 year old there is a kind of uncomfortness there.

The "new(er)" generation of modders and players are the fans of those series and movies so they want to either be that or have their followers be like Katniss or Beatrice as 16 years old from the books and movies.

There was also an age slender woman were considered unhealthy and having a Rubens body was a guarentee for suc6 with the men, if it was still that age we'd see completely different mods. The beauty though is that with mods like CBBE and bodyslide you can have exactly what you like and there's enough textures out there to have them looking teenage to mature whatever you like and what fits your age and preferences.

Problem is that most of the mods aren't even about making women (guy changing mods are... not a lot) look pretty... they are about objectifying females and make them look like porn actresses/f*#@ dolls caked in so much makeup that their real face is gone.

I'll never find objectification or females looking like f*#@ dolls caked in makeup... "beautiful".

Hell, I don't like it in real life already, even less in a game.

It seems you have mixed Gilibran's quote with mine.

The female main character voice sounds quite old. I would put it late 30s, early 40s. Conservative as well. Even the opening scenes imply that they are a military family.

I have made my characters to match this voice.

If there was a mod or DLC that started you out as a young raider with voice to match I could see using a younger character that makes questionable wardrobe & makeup decisions.

My female Fallout 3 & NV characters were younger by story & their dress reflected it.

I would be happy if Bethesda did a voice only DLC so that I could make a more youthful character without cringing when they spoke.

For some people the best times in their life was when they were in their teens & their fantasies reflect this. For me it was when I was in my late 30s, so this game suits me well.

I am a fan of 3D art. I have been a fan since the 80s. On the nexus there is some of the best 3D art ever done & some of the worst. If a mod is not within your tastes, Move on.

As for that first part, it's pretty interesting with the attributing an age and other things to a voice only. The female PC has the same voice actress as Jack from Mass Effect, who's 24 years old or so in ME2, 25/26 in ME3. And having played ME far too much and really liking Jack (especially the ME3 version), my female PC has a similar hairstyle, a ton of tattoos and looks like a slightly older version of Jack while enjoying killing things as well, since it felt natural for this game.

As for the topic, it's not my cup of tea, probably would've been if I was 16, but that's not the case. Each to his/her own, I prefer playing women in their 30s with a severe mean streak unless I play as a dude.

That is just letting them come on here and destroy our image as a community.

Do I really want to have my mod associated with a website that peddles soft core porn on the front page? The filters don't mean anything when it comes to people destroying the reputation that comes with being a modder.

I'd say that's Dark0ne's saying, and he is ok with people's choice of mods so far.
