Ten rules to get a mod setup with a lot of workshop & crafting mods to work

I have a somewhat odd question that is more just asking for your opinions than help (for once). I have been working on something for my own use and thought that it might be of value to some others. I'm fairly sure that after the CK comes out in April, someone will figure out how to enhance the UI (along the lines of SkyUI). One feature I would like to see is the ability to search on items in the construction menus, so that if the keywords limit can't be easily overcome, the larger menus which result from using lots of Settlement Building Mods with SK would be less of an issue.

 

For now I wanted an easier way to find some things (like radios and refrigerators) that get added by the mods. I've started a Master Recipe List that includes (at least at the summary level) the location in the new SK menus for items added by settlement building mods. I am part of the way through Homemaker at the moment, but have already finished Alternate Settlements, Snap 'n' Build, DD All-In-One, NX Pro Farming, OCDecorator, Craftable Weapon Racks, Robot Home Defense, Foundation Building Blocks, a few smaller mods. I plan to add in more items from other smaller mods as I have the time (likely updates on weekends as my time during the week is pretty limited).

 

By having the craftable items listed, if I need to find something, I can just do a search within the document and see immediately which menu it is available under, rather than spending time scrolling through menus that are 100+ items.

 

My question is, do you think that anyone else would be interested in having a copy for their own use? If so, I could upload it once I finish going through Homemaker and cleaning up the doc a little. On the other hand, if it wouldn't really be of any use, then I won't bother.

 

@Ethreon - I saw that you are helping with/took over the clean-up/admin of SSEX. Thank you. Is there any chance that since NovaCoru has already stated that she is getting burned out, there might be a merged global mod in the future which both authors could have the option of contributing to (if they have time), but would otherwise become the primary settlement build mod? Just a thought, since I know that you are well-versed in making sure the objects have all the bells and whistles (i.e. simple intersection options, fixed/more snapping points, full SK compatibility, etc.).

Doubt it. It kinda boils down to modder pride, and I doubt Nova will quit, unlike Troy; also doubt she'd allow anyone to take her mod and mash it with SSEX. Also, would be fairly hard to keep that updated, and keep my mods updated. And, furthermore, I don't really have an incentive to make one supermod and keep it both updated and improved with content, when neither of mods is mine and I get nothing out of it (not even increased traffic on my own mods :P). I am a bit overwhelmed with a lot of RL stuff, so maybe later on I'd be willing to do it.

 

For SSEX all I am going to do is make it work with Vanilla/SK and provide basic snap capabilities to items. Maybe add navmesh when I learn how to.

Update: changed rule #1 according to the update(s) for SSEx made by Ethreon.

 

@Ethreon: let me know, if you're fine with that. As far as I understand, you won't be maintaining and improving it any further, just fix it and make it work in its current state, right? And I gotta say: nice story twist, Sir! ;)

 

P.S.: Isn't there a feature to completely ban someone from access to a mod? Just thinking out loud...

From a mod, yes. This is a post though, so doesn't really work. Unless they violate ToS in any way, you can't get rid of pest.

 

I'm going to remove the pre-3.0 versions from downloads anyway, and yes, maintenance and porting around. There are still items inside the mod that have no icon (I know how to make one easily), and I still have to split the fences into more categories and give them all snaps.

@Ethreon: I mean... we all know, how much he loves his twisted old SSEx... why not make it easier for him to not get tempted by the young and good SSEx? Or don't you have the key to lock that door now? :D

Oh. that's what you meant.. I could ban him, but I have no reason there. I'd love to ban him from my posts on forums though, since he's immature and won't accept his mistake. But that's up to each, and I couldn't care less.
