TheOfficialHyperwolf
So I'm decently new to nexus mods, started using it properly when FO4 came out. I've been wanting to get into modding for a long time now and seeing how FO4 came out, I think now is the best time. I know the creation kit isn't coming out till April from what I heard (in my opinion it's because the "automatron" dlc could easily be made with the creation kit.) and I hear that people are using TES5 edit? Don't know if my knowledge is correct about the TES5 edit, but my real question here is, what does modding require? The people that make some of the great mods like the recently added Dogmeat's backpack, the modeling in my opinion I could do, but I'm terrible when it comes to art, so the textures would be a problem for me, so should I just not bother trying? Is there any pro's out there that can help me out with this? So again my questions : What programs would I need to learn to use? If I'm bad at art should I not bother doing it because the textures would be terrible? And does programming come into this anywhere? I know some basic's when it comes to python and vb.net. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.
Boombro
Can make your text plain instead of highlighted please? It kinds of hurts the eye. First of all, what kind of stuff do you want to make? From what k can see texture work, it OK if it not good. Make plenty and you will get better, or use base game textures. You need scripting for quests, some gameplay related stuff and activeable objects. If you played Skyrim with mods, menus, MCM, some gameplay features are scripted. Textures, level lists, AI packages, pathfinding, modeling, crafting and many aspects of the game don't need scripting, even so, beth scripting is easy to learn. Tools used a re FO4edit. Go around, dig and test.
lilkandeekid
Honestly the tools depend on what you're trying to do in your mod.But it sounds like you'll need -FO4Edit for the bulk of itCaprica and Champollion if you do want to do some scripting. Also worth digging around Necrocytosis's pinned thread Fallout 4 Modding Tutorials if you havent already.

ZsoSahal
Depends on what you want to make. For tweaks to the game with no new asset creation, all you need is FO4Edit, and possibly nifskope if you're doing texture swaps, and want to make sure they're working properly. For actually creating new objects, or editing existing objects' mesh, you're going to need a 3d modelling tool. Blender is free, 3ds Max has a free student license. There are more, but those are the two I use. For texture work, you can go MANY different routes, but GIMP and Krita are both free programs. ZBrush is popular, and obviously Photoshop. Just that and time. You'll need it to learn yourself, or butt time watching youtube tutorials.
