MLeonhardt
One of the biggest pains in the ass of building tall structures is having to go way out of the way to make room for stairs. What I propose is a way to instantly teleport from one floor to another, through the use of LADDERS This suggestion would add two types of ladders, in both metal and wood. Ladder Floors would be like the Wooden Stairwell piece. It would join the lower floor with the upper floor. Looking at the ceiling and activating the ladder would instantly teleport you to the higher floor, while looking at the floor and activating the ladder would teleport you down one level. ladder Floors are T shaped, and are placed by looking at the floor above, with a hatch in the middle, allowing the bottom floor to be a regular, non hatched floor. Standing Ladders would be like the hanging angled stair ramps. They would mount to walls, to the edges of floors/foundations, or to the bottoms of Ladder Floors for creating longer distance teleports. I can't believe this hasn't been done yet. Kikaimegami
That's something that's really going to need the GECK. While I think with enough prodding and swearing, I could do it in XEdit (and likely need to make some custom NIFs), that is a whole pile of effort that I just can't be bothered to put forth right now. Since nobody else has done it yet, I'm guessing most people feel the same. I know I've accidentally created a sort of teleporting thing before when trying out some new doors (in Homemaker, when it first came out IIRC) and discovering some of them were load doors instead of just animated doors :psyduck: Mysterious appearing settlers! Didn't work for the PC of course, since I think it was just navmesh node jumping on their AI's part, but teleport on activator interaction isn't that hard to do (I made a fort in Oblivion that used ladder activators to go between ext floors, but I am uncertain what needs done to make such a thing buildable in the workshop), and obviously getting settlers to use it via navmesh f*#@ery is so easy, you can do it on accident. It would definitely need scripting, and possibly a way to generate door markers while building, for anyone reading my rambling who wants a place to start. And, you know, editing the navmesh info in friggin XEdit. :yucky: I've got several quality of life improvements for the Workshop I'd like to experiment with implementation of, but XEdit ain't the place for it unless you're a masochist :ermm: EDIT: Er, pointing out that I'm not ragging on XEdit here. It's actually super useful and handy, but doing stuff more advanced than, say, scripted food is no fun at all. TeamBacon
Ladders are traditionally one of the most glitchy things in any game that has them. I can't remember any game that has had ladders where I haven't had to reload my game because my character got stuck half way up a ladder. Also, my own personal opinion is that anyone who says I can't believe this hasn't been done yet. should just be eating by rabid unicorns for their insolent tone. Ofc, animations are crap. The ladder climbing could also be replaced by a cinematic brief.

You are fine with just being able to access an essential area to progress the plot of the game 'most times'?

Made my own ladder that forces me to jump on it cause walking is really slow.
MLeonhardt
Animations for actually climbing the ladder are not necessary.Just have the player teleport to the top or bottom of the ladder segment with a "clunking ladder noise"
ZsoSahal
Now I'm having flashbacks to DayZ. 30+ days alive in the woods... killed by a ladder. So thanks for that, I guess.
jamiechi
Borderlands does the ladder climbing quite well. When the Creation Kit comes out, maybe this will be possible. I would rather see a mod that shows the climbing animations, instead of the teleporting.
