Without the Beatles leading to Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath there is no Metal, just Rock n Roll like you hear in Fallout already.

 

You can't diminish the cultural change that the Beatles and the bands of that era had on all music that followed. We are talking no Jimi Hendrix, no Doors, no Rolling Stones, none of the bands that shaped what would become modern music.

 

Almost everything in Fallout already would be considered Rock n Roll.

 

 

 

Also, Metallica is from California in the 80s... I'm not sure what you are going on about there...

 

 

 

There is no logical way to have metal in Fallout unless you just want to throw all continuity to the wind and make your own lore. Which if you want to do that, go right ahead. But don't complain about the rest of us that like Fallout actually being Fallout.

You forget that pre war radio was gov't controlled. The music that was allowed out for sampling would fit the gov't ideal not the natural growth of culture. Now of course there would be underground music and the like.... which could make for some really interesting quest lines to recover.

Dude, this isn't my opinion, it's cannon. Go start a new game and listen to the intro, he even says that the technology stopped their advancement. Why else do they have laser weaponry but still use such old tech in their everyday electronics like TVs and radios?

 

And yes, of course the electric guitar has been around since the '30s, what do you think those guys were playing in all the songs on the radio?

 

Anyway....I give up.. You win. There is totally deathmetal and deathcore and everything in between in the wasteland, we just haven't found it yet :ermm:

OK:

1) Even with no beatles, music would have evolved.
As I said afore, what else could they do in those vaults?

Having continuous sex?
They would be making music, well, art in general.

And thus lead to new forms of.

2) Helloween is a UK band, the Metallica ref was a joke, but seems you did not get it, although there was an XD.
I simply mixed both bands up.

3) About FO being FO: the point I tried to make is that every radiostation mod seems to be in the same form as the original radios.
In fact, I was trying to have a modder think about alternatives, and used metal as example, as it would fit the violence in FO4, the lack of religion, the fact life simply has no value, the ... you understand where I am going, I think.

But it could be just as well... whatever.

In fact, I asked a few radio modders to make a bagpipe radio, there are thousands of bagpipe tunes out there, and be honest: if one hears a bagpipe, he'd be thinking war.

That is an instrument which has written war allover it.

I am not saying there is metal in FO4 per se, I said it could be very well be there.

If Elvis never had lived, another would have taken that place, maybe far later, but still.

Technology and science did not just stop, but even fell back, but that does not mean that art and similar as well would have stopped evolving.

 

I mean, if Michael Angelo never would have existed, would that automatically mean Rubens, Van Gogh, or... never would've painted what they painted?

Ya know, if there were heavy music, I bet anything it would be taken way too seriously and would only serve as the foundation of another gang. Think about what we already know...baseball and hockey have been misinterpreted as teams of gangs who kill each other. Can you imagine what these primitive uneducated screwheads would do if they heard Hammer Smashed Face? Lets say there are electric guitars....they would most likely be used to kill people, not to make music, just like hockey sticks and "swatters" are now. Is it so unrealistic to think that this society is so screwed up that they can't make "art" or music when they can't even understand playing a sport for fun? Add to that the fact that many metal lyrics are often very violent and harsh, and you have a recipe for a "Cannibal Corpse gang" who go around "Butchering at Birth" and handing out "Meat Hook Sodomy" to everyone in the wasteland.

I personally wouldn't care for hard rock or metal in the FO world although I do like those genres. However, I've always thought that there is FAR better music from the 50's that wound fit in. Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Fats Domino and Elvis just to name a few. I understand it's all about copyrights but just sayin'... there was way better and more popular music from the era.

 

This thread has inspired me to check out a mod that lets you add your own music so thanks for the links! Think I'll start with "The Stroll" by The Diamonds. That would fit nicely. Now where did I put that digital American Graffiti album....

I mean the setting of FO4 does not call for the stuff their playing, if I had the chance, I'd kill each jocky, just to get rid of the crap.

 

Think: instead of say Radio Diamond City crap, they'd be playing for instance Bolt Thrower, or Deicide, Morbid Angel, you name it.

 

To me, that'd be FAR more immersive than the stuff they're playing right now.

 

GOD I hate the radio stations.

 

Try my mod "Radio Silence". It's a standalone radio station that plays sweet nothing.

Considering metal didn't exist yet in the era Fallout takes place in pre-war it would be pretty counter-immersive lol. But as previous posters already mentioned, you're always able to add your own music to the mods that offer custom track utilization. It's not like you're stuck without options.
