The Thread of Computers (aka will my computer run Skyrim)

I think at medium it'll play around 30. 30 is fine with anything except FPS games. I mean I played Crisys 2 with decent frames at medium and a that's heavy game. Or Deus x Human revolution I'm just above minimum and it played perfectly (I haven't measured the fps but it's very smooth so at least 40-50) with most settings to normal, edge AA (right after the off the first option), post-processing on, trilinear and I don't remember any other settings (although I just looked) Edited by babis8142

Can someone tell me if the following computer will be able to run Skyrim on max/ultra settings?

-Intel Core2 processor Q9650 3.0 GHZ w/ Quad Core with 12MB Cache

-Dual 1024 MB ATI Radeon 4870 with Crossfire configuration

-8GB DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHZ

-Windows 64 bits

-Screen Resolution 1920X1200

My concern is the dual (two cards) 1GB ATI Radeon 4870 with Crossfire configuration will not be up to the task. If not, any suggestions on what graphic card would be best to upgrade to that does not break the bank.

Thanks

I can run Battlefield 3 on Ultra, as well as Rage and the other more graphically intensive games so I suspect that Skyrim won't be an issue.

However, since I'm planning to record all of my playthrough and other things, I'll probably nerf the settings a bit to make it run smoother. God knows screen recording kills your FPS/

I just saw this thread...don't know if this has been pointed out but I added the link to the 1st post.

Can you RUN it?

Pick "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" and it will let you know.

Isn't that so much easier than looking up specs?

Here is my thread of the official specs, as well as what level you will perform it (According to your gfx card)

Question. I went onto system requirements lab and tested my computer for skyrim. It says that I greatly pass everything, aside from my video card, which fails.

But here's the interesting part that's confusing me. System Requirements lab says my video card needs directx 9 compatability and at the very least 3.0 in pixel and vertex shader versions as well as 512MB VRAM. I have nearly 1 GB of VRAM, and 4.1 for my pixel and vertex shader version, in addition to having I believe a Directx11 compatible card (if not, at the very least it most definitely supports DX10 as well as DX9).

But it is in Intel graphics card, which is not officially recognized as the minimum requirements for graphics card. According to system requirements lab, my graphics card's brand is the ONLY THING disallowing me to play Skyrim, DESPITE the fact that my graphics card also has specs far above the minimum requirements for the game.

So my question is, given the information I've detailed in this post, can I run Skyrim?

Here are my other specs:

CPU: Intel® Core i5-2415M CPU @ 2.30GHz

RAM: 2 GB

OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate Edition Service Pack 1 (build 7601), 32-bit

Video Card: Intel® HD Graphics Family, 1GB VRAM, 4.1 Pixel Shader, 4.1 Vertex Shader

Sound Card: Cirrus Logic CS4206A (AB 28)

HD Space: 42.6 GB

Any info I can get on this little question would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

almost any imitation video chip

will have troubles with any real game

don't plan on playing games

but then again

you might be able to

but its gonna take more of your time to find out how

than the cost of a new machine is worth to any person who works at wal*mart

Thanks for the speedy reply, man.

So you're saying that despite my graphics card having a graphics card that rather handily beats the main listed requirements for Skyrim, I still can't play it because of the brand and model of my actual graphics card itself? I mean it's a very new Intel Chipset and supposedly they greatly upgraded their capabilities. I can play games like Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 2 on medium to high settings without any choppiness or lag or anything. Are you saying that there's absolutely no way I can play this game or that it's just extremely doubtful?
