WeissYohji
So, who here dislikes the character creator? I do! In particular, the way the game handles "Facial hair". All it does it make take at least 1/2 to make your character have normal looking skin. No, I do NOT want my character to have random black splotches on his face! ...Anyone know a mod that fixes this? ...I kinda want to use the construction set to make my character....1. There is no reason why Bethesda couldn't let us have proper facial hair in Oblivion. I only play female characters, but I would at least appreciate having the option (Which WAC adds).2. There's also no good reason to have random splotches on our characters' faces. Especially the Redguard problem--you try to make a dark-skinned Redguard and end up with fugly green splotches that aren't supposed to be there. Have the programmers at Bethesda never seen a black person before? They don't have those splotches! How intelligent must they be in order to give us more realistic skin tones on the human races? Bleedingnova
I'm kinda irritated on how different the preset chracters are from fallout3 and nv.
LolaBunny
How intelligent must they be in order to give us more realistic skin tones on the human races? I lowered my expectations when I opened the construction set and saw all the "pillers" and "pedistals". ;)
erloriel
As Crudius has shown, there are some Mods that make the standard races better. Mostly though, you can get decent results without mods (if for some reason you won't use them). Normally its a lot about very small changes in the different categories, within which you will have to switch around a lot, if you want to construct a good-looking character. For example, to neutralize large eyebrows, but not eliminate them, try using the eyeshadow option or a similiar color-option within the eye-region. Just fiddle around with the settings for it and hit the reset button, when you mess up, since it is easier to start fresh, than to fix a mistake. This is mostly due to the fact, that most sliders affect many other sliders within the same category, making it more or less impossible to get it back the way it was and just making the mistakes more glaring. The custom races of course go a long way to fix these problems, as they are almost exclusivly well-crafted, especially for the female characters. I'm currently playing with Battle Spire Dark Elves, since all you really have to do is tweak the chin, nose and cheek (gauntness mostly) settings to get a very handsome/beautiful character. However with Ahata's (spelling?) Argonian Replacer, the Argonians can be stunning aswell. The only race that will probably stay ugly as sin, for as long as it exists is the Ork race, but I guess that's in character for them.
Balakirev
There have been several race mods made that correct various flaws. For example: when Bethsoft designed Redguards, they actually used the same settings for Imperials--hard though that is to believe. (I ran into this, when creating my Redguard mannequins). The guy who designed Chocolate Elves fixed it, and there have been a couple of Redguard fixes, too, that shunt shadows and angles away from the Imperial design. I've also seen a mod that adds beards, but frankly, didn't like it at all. They looked like fake beards, the kind you'd see at costume parties. I would love to try these, but every time I try to add a custom race, the mod doesn't work. I don't know what I am doing wrong. Is there something different about these as compared to other mods? Also, out of pure laziness, could someone post links for these custom race mods? I would be willing to try custom races again since the only race that I can get to look like I want is Kahjit.suzy
Adrius2
The beard-sliders are unholy and spells doom for anyone that dares touch them. On another note, of the race mods I've tried I find Ren's head to be the easiest to create a satisfying character out of. Suzy, I'd recommend Cobl with the Cobl races plugin, that's what I'm using. Ya get a lot of awesomeness in a nice package.

suzypike
I scrolled through the races and found a few that I like. I only play male characters, so that eliminated quite a few. There aren't a whole lot of male races to choose from, sadly. The biggest obstacle that I see is that all of the races I like use Roberts Male Body Replacer and when I looked at it it seemed to cause a lot of problems. Wolven Anthros and Anwolf Races both have it listed, as does the Dryad Race. Does that mean the races won't work without it or that they just won't look quite as good? Cobl may be the way to go unless it needs a lot of body replacers too. Does the "Custom Race Fix" also fix the problems with Roberts Body Replacer? I read way scary stuff about it---disappearing bodies, floating heads, and the worst- having to reinstall. Yikes!suzyp.s. sorry about all the questions... one just seems to lead to another.
