dree74
It is definitely time to consider bringing back caning and other forms of severe public punishment for people like that. Let's see how many websites they hack after being caned and how excited other hackers will be to try after watching it done. That is is the problem...no real consequences. To much "touchy-feely", give a disease/disorder name to every little deviant behavior rather than forcing them to act properly and be accountable. I would like to volunteer to be chosen to administer the canings. I totally agree. Hopefully the politicians can catch up and deal more seriously with cyber terrorism. Braggadar
Caning? I can think of more severe and effective means of punishment. Surgical neutering. No ongoing welfare issues, and it prevents scum like this from from reproducing. Win-win.
roquefort
Existing punishments for data theft are quite severe. The problem lies in actually catching the offenders & bringing them to justice, which if it could be done effectively would probably minimise these issues. Musing about the horrors we'd like to inflict on the culprits is kind of satisfying, but ultimately misses the point. Zaldir
Precicely how is stealing account info going to force Beth to speed up the release of Skyrim? If anything it could slow it down because they have to pull developers off of Skyrim to fight the feces storm caused by these idiots - Smart? I don't think so. Intelligent Not likely. Common sense? Not that I can see. Shoot themselves in the foot Now I think we are getting somewhere. http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f351/charonn0/ohgeez-1.gif The only good thing is the more of these cheap password thefts they pull off, the quicker the various authorities will catch them and put them away. Unless some user who has lost his life savings finds them first. Agreed!Almost hoping for the latter there, as if authorities catch them, not much will happen, but an angry user who's lost his life savings... By Thor and Odin, that would be a blood bath!

Reassigning GAME developers to something that can be and should be fixed by WEB developers and WEB security experts would be a plain stupid move. It seems hackers launched a worldwide campaign against various gaming companies: first it was Sony Online Entertainment, then Codemasters (I received a mail message from them a week ago, saying that due to hackers obtaining certain personal information they shut down several websites related to their games), now it's Bethsoft... The only positive side effect that I can think about is that companies will pay more attention to securing their websites in the future.
scot
If it´s "anonymous" they are also charged by hacking governments sites among other serious stuff.Spain was able to catch 3 "anonymous" hackers but the rest of the group take control of the spanish police site -.-The article can be found here in game informer (http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2011/06/13/three-possible-anonymous-members-arrested-in-spain.aspx) Edit:Nevermind I forgot that lulzsec claimed responsability, still at least some of psn attackers were arrested. cavveman
Well, that is why you have different mailadresses, one for signing up on sites, and one for serious stuff. And different passwords of cource. But still, you all remember Sony, according to this link at nytimes it could take years for them to fix their problems.I just wish that they could leave companys alone and just go for goverments, seems more legit somehow: David against Goliat. You get the picture. But I am curious to why the users did not recieve any mails from Bethesda about the hack.
