Bernt
I cannot compare as I never played Skyrim. But - compared to Fallout 3 and New Vegas it is rock solid. The only time I experienced CTDs was pending getting ambushed by one of the patches! A couple of mods less my game was back to itself. At the moment I'm running with 234 mods. A mix of 2k and 4k texture mods + the ususal extra gear - weapons, outfits, body replacers etc etc. Playing for hours without hiccups :smile:The only thing I've noticed is longer loading times.......... :whistling:I am - mostly - using NMM for installing and uninstalling and using FO4Edit for checking for conflics. noahdvs
Compared to skyrim, Oblivion, FO3 and FONV, it's much more stable. I have 233 active plugins, though a bunch of them are just compatibility patches. Most of them add or change something such as weapons, armor and stuff related to settlement building. I try to avoid using things that can reduce FPS without adding something to gameplay such as 4k textures and ENBs (besides ENBoost) since my laptop is already below minimum specs. With FO4Edit, I can do a pretty decent job of running all those mods like the person above me. It does make my game slower and sometimes the game can hang up for a little bit though. I try to save a lot just in case something goes wrong.
StarMystyk
Skyrim wasn't too bad for me. Oblivion, though, that was CTD's a lot of the time, not to mention stuttering and lag. For me, that was pretty unstable. Even using utilities to counter it (Streamline, for example) it was still unpredictable. Fallout 3 wasn't much better. New Vegas wasn't too bad. Once I got a (then) better card it was fine. Fallout 4, though, that has been absolutely stable for me. Like the second poster, the only time it CTD'ed was as a patch was coming in (I've since disabled Steam's background downloads). I don't get a constant 60fps but that's normal for my card. In Skyrim it's 60fps most of the time, except when it's dark and raining in Solitude then it drops to 40-50ish. But, I hardly notice unless I've got the fps counter onscreen. In FO4 I also suffer from long loading times when going from an interior to exterior, most especially in the middle of the city. I use ENBoost and that has helped somewhat. Where I used to sit on a loading screen for up to 5 minutes now it's only up to a minute. Not as fast as the pre-patched game but good enough for now, IMO.If I suspect an issue with any mods I'll load them all up in FO4Edit and see what's going on, but my load order is just as stable as the game itself. I'm still a serial F5er, though. That's Oblivion's fault, lol. With mods I have 67 (those with esps or esms) and a handful of texture replacers. Where possible I always grab 1K versions. I have a 2K card but if I'm using multiple replacers at that size my card would probably choke. I do need another and will get one when the price of the one I want (GTX 960) comes down :smile:I have a newer PC than the one I had for Skyrim, in the early days, and Oblivion. I didn't build it for any game inparticular, just went with what I could afford at the time. My only regret is I wish I had got a better card. I only got it because someone I knew had one and I didn't know what was good and what wasn't. I know better now  The R7 260X is a piece of crap, imo. bladexdsl
as long as you get your load order correct and don't go overboard with mods it's fairly stable. but it does still ctd now and than.
TeamBacon
1 CTD in about 100 some hours of playing. Though I don't add a lot of mods, but the vanilla game is actually up there as one of the more stable games I have played in years... Not just compared to other Bethesda titles. Royhr
Well I've had game plays where I seemed to get random CTDs and pretty regularly. After messing around trying to figure out why it seemed to end up being a corrupted save that seemed to be causing most of my issues. I'd have to go back to find a older save to get around the CTDs. Or I'll just get pissed off and start a new game with the exact same mods and load order and then I'll have no issues at least for awhile like I'm having right now. This time it has been very solid without a single CTD after probably 50 hours or so. The only issue I keep having and it's getting pretty annoying is the stuttering/lagging I get from time to time. It just shows up randomly and the only way I can get it to stop is to do a save, quit and restart the save. And the issue doesn't appear to an FPS issue because I'm getting pretty steady 60fps when it does occur. I've also tries clearing the buffers but it doesn't help at all. So I have no clue as to why it happens or how to try to prevent or fix it.
TheOriginalEvilD
If you could add the stability of Oblivion/FO3/Skyrim, it wouldn't equal the stability of FO4. I can count on one hand how many CTD's or other crash type issues in 406 hours of play. Edited April 17, 2016 by Evil D
