ive been checking out the bans recently (for some enjoyment lol) and ive noticed most of them are from piracy of FONV. why is that the most common one? is it because its new or simply because its the easiest or what?. im not looking how to do it or anything, i have Steam and have my copy (and every copy of every game i have) legally im just curious as to why every pirate here gets caught from FONV and no other game. lol

just a curious question lol

Do you want the criminologist's answer, which is gonna be really long, or do you want the TL;DR version thereof?

I would say it is simply because FONV is one of the main nexus sites at the moment as the game is still "new" so you get people that are not the brightest saying stuff like (this is just an example and I have no idea if anyone has said this exactly but I am positive there are similar things):

"This mod isn't working for me, I am using a cracked version of the game. Anyone know what to do?"

I also buy all my game legally but people pirate just about anything :pirate: , especially if it is new or expensive. I am sure most of the people who get banned also have only 1-3 posts and do not care about the nexus or anyone who makes the mods and therefor probably don't even know that using illegal copies is against the rules. That is just my opinion but I am sure it isn't too far off

OK, then, short criminological analysis time:

People want it and don't necessarily have the money. They also seem to want to try it before buying it (play it on your friend's PC instead maybe?). Then, there's the fact that people see Steam as intrusive DRM and they want to bypass it because they don't like having to jump through hoops to prove they're not pirates. Oh, and people in general can be really entitled and think that if they want something they should get it by any means necessary.

Steam is likely responsible for most of the piracy that takes place here. If you look at other games the Nexus supports, their piracy rates are pretty low (that we know of) compared to Fallout New Vegas. If you notice, Fallout New Vegas is the only one that requires a form of DRM to play it. As BlackBaron2 has said, many find it intrusive and some (like me) believe it is a breach of certain rights, as in "I own it, I shouldn't need a third party program to use it". However, there are some that take it a step too far and begin to "wage war" against DRM by pirating the software it covers.

Ironically, DRM usually creates more piracy than it was intended to stamp out, which is why some game companies (possibly Ubisoft) dropped DRM in a heartbeat after they found piracy rocket.

I agree with the idea that the DRM system is causing more piracy than it is eliminating. I personally do not agree with the policies of Steam, and thus, have so far boycotted Fallout: New Vegas entirely. I have seen it played and it has caught my attention, but not enough for me to aquire a copy, either legally or illegally. I will wait a while longer to see if there is a GOTY type of release and then think about getting it then.

bleh, excuses excuses.. The reason why New Vegas is looking like the most pirated is because it's the easiest to spot on account of Steam.

And as for Steam being a "breach of rights" that's laughable - no-one is forced to buy the game - Don't like Steam? Then don't buy the game and show your disapproval that way.

And for the record, I don't like Steam either, I'm not going to pretend that it justifies theft though

Me and my girlfriend have about £150 a month disposable income after we pay our rent and most of our food, and we can still afford 2 or 3 games a year.

There's just no excuse for piracy... None.

You missed the point completely. My point is that I should not have to install a third party program onto a machine I own, for a game I have bought with my money. It wouldn't bother me so much if it wasn't intrusive or performance consuming.
