Described by the developers at CD Projekt Red as the "definitive" version of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, Version 2.0 will bring technical and gameplay enhancements galore to the dark fantasy RPG in September, as well as a handful of new features designed to please novice- and expert-level Witchers alike.

In an interview with Game Trailers at Gamescom, the CD Projekt Red team breaks down The Witcher 2 Version 2.0, promising the free update will polish the existing game to a shine while providing some all new goodies.

The Witcher 2 Version 2.0 new features include:

New Tutorial System: designed to slowly immerse new players into The Witcher's world.

New difficult setting, Dark Mode: almost as challenging as Insane Mode, but with game saves, and a series of new "dark" items, including weapons and armor, that CD Projekt Red describes as the most powerful items in the game. The studio said Dark Mode will also alter the campaign in unique ways.

Arena Mode: The Witcher 2's take on Horde Mode, Arena will pit players against progressively difficult waves of enemies. Players will earn points with each kill that can be used toward upgrading equipment between rounds.

The Witcher 2 Version 2.0 will be available via a free update on September 29.

Sometimes I think you hear more at events like Gamescon than E3 >.>.

What do you think about this news :) ? I wonder what other 'technical parts' of the fixes will hold except from the mentioned one.

I have to admit I'm impressed by CDProjekt's responsiveness. A friend, MondoTomHead, sent me a link to The Escapist about the update:

Looking forward to it......these guys don't just sit back and watch the money roll in do they! Unlike many others.......You listening ....Bethesda....Blizzard.....EA..... ???????????????

On the other-hand Bethesda commit to an SDK at game launch 11 months before the game has been released....CDProjekt aren't committing to anything on that front. I'd rather have a proper SDK than an Enhanced Edition; a community of thousands can always do better than a dev team of less than 100.

Second post.

A timeline would have been even better, but at least it's a confirmation.

I am sooo looking forward to patch 2.0.

It looks like it chock full of goodies.

I know a lot of people have been poo-pooing it and it hasnt even been released yet.

I say CDRP has been awesome, They really support their game they keep rolling out DLCs and for they are giving it to us for FREE.
