eend123
Dear experts, since two days I can't save anymore. Saving causes CTD and when I try to load the created save it appears to be corrupt. When I load the last (working) saveand try again the CTD on save is still there. If I load an older savegame, 5 or 6 games earlier, the problem is gone for a moment, but after I created 4 or 5 saves the problem starts over again. All the autosave options are turned off and it doesn't matter if I overwrite or created a new save. I deleted oblivion completely (using Bben46's uninstall guide --> uninstall --> delete folders --> clean register using CCleaner). After that, I installed oblivion on my girlfriendscomputer (where it's never been on before) to do some tests. I only installed vanilla Oblivion, to be sure the problem isn't caused by any mod, and copied one of my savegames (which I backupped just 2 hours before the problem started) into the savefolder and loaded it. Ofcourse the message "save relies on unavailable content" shows up, but besides that it works. But also here after 4 or 5 saves it starts crashing on save. When I try to load it this time it says "none of the master files included is available". In this topic: http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/434221-constant-ctd-when-saving/page__p__3600157__hl__save__fromsearch__1#entry3600157 Someone mentions that it's because there are mods running which require Bashed patch, but if that causes the problem it wouldn't happen on my girlfriends computer without any mods..Also someone says it is because the saves are relying on non-active content. Could be true, in that case I'll be (OMG!) unable to ever use this savegame again, but sounds odd to me since I am "allowed" to make 4 or 5 saves without troubles before it happens again. While googling I found out it's a common problem, mostly occuring when you have a lot of saves, (in the last 1,5 year I made 1249 saves) . So far I didn't found a decent solution or even an explanation, so I decided to completely re-install the game and some mods I've allways used without any troubles later today, and since it seems to be a problem caused by the (big) saves, and infecting other, clean, saves (can anyone confirm this?) I'll have to start over again from the beginning with a newlevel 1 character. Todays questions: What causes this CTD on save, is it the total amount of saves? the size of the savegame file? and does it infect other saves? will I be able to use this savegame(with it's "unavailable content") again after I completely re-install the game? Hickory
Todays questions: What causes this CTD on save, is it the total amount of saves? the size of the savegame file? and does it infect other saves? will I be able to use this savegame (with it's "unavailable content") again after I completely re-install the game? It depends. For instance, a save game with bloat in it will be prone to corruption -- do not use cheats such as (or mods that use) PlaceAtMe or CreateFullActorCopy. A save game with many hours of play may be suffering from the ABomb animation bug. A save game in a 'Save' folder of thousands will put undue strain on the game. If you have lots of save games, rename your \Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Saves\ to \Documents\My Games\Oblivion\SavesOLD\ and create a new \Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Saves\ folder, copying only the save that you want to use. Use the xxxOLD folder as a backup store. Try to avoid saving over suspect save files -- open the console and type: save "NewSave" (call it what you will). luxwing0go
Does autosaving crash as well? Here's something to try:Open Wrye Bash and use it to remove Bloat and Repair A Bomb on your saves. Load them and create a new save using the console code. Then load it and try saving normally. Of course, create back ups of your saves before doing anything to them. eend123
Yeah, autosave also. I've already re-installed oblivion, I'm going to start over again from the beginning, just done patching and adding the mods I really want to use without all the crap I had before. Only problem is I can't remember the name of the purple elves I had, always nice to see some purple npc's showing up. Accidentially found them several months ago. Deleted1082189User
My game just recently began having this problem as well. I managed to save just fine on a new game, but my usual save file is not working. I can load it and the game will work just fine with no issues, but when I save, I CTD. The save file's there and corrupted. I can load the file I used before to attempt saving again, but the same thing happens; I CTD, and get a new, corrupted save file. eend123
try loading one of the old saves in wrye bashand reading the mod list off of it. Tnx. Cobl was the missing link. I started a new re-installed game, cheated myself some strength and money and off we go again, at least I've dumped 15gb of mods I didn't use at all, and after 1,5 year it's nice to play the main quest again while having a companion. However, when using Wrye Bash (I didn't before this happened) I noticed something what might have caused the problem, might be usefull for Kalekunai: The last day I used my old saves I added all of the Better Cities mods. Since I liked them I added them again to my new gameand then I saw them appearing highlighted red in Wrye Bash, meaning the mod has the same modification date/time as another mod. Wrye's tutorial says that will cause troubles, so I editted the modification time for all of the red ones and it runs fine. So I guess that might also be an explanation for the corrupt saves? Hickory
so I editted the modification time for all of the red ones and it runs fine. Far better to use BOSS, which will not only re-order your load list correctly but does so by editing the modified times.
aidygus
I've got a similar issue going on here and also after I installed open cities. Up to that point fine but after I installed it, I could save a total of 25 times then on the 26th time I CTD every time. I've cleaned the save with Wrye bash, turned off all the mods and still busted. Am wondering if there's an issue with the open cities mod as most of the threads I've read researching my own problem all seem to have this mod installed. To answer other points, I've only got 9 saves in total. the auto and the quick + 7 normals. The last current save is 2.7 megs so not massive. The full list of mods I'm using are : Official patchUnofficial patchDeadly Reflex 6 with droplit torchesMax Tael's Natural collectionReznod ManiquinsAnimated Window Lighting SystemOpen Cities ClassicElven Maps V2HUD status barsQarl's texturesRAEVWDEyja romance modLoth's better weapon racksHov's HotkeysShivering Isles and knights of the nine + plugins that come on the CD I've totally removed the Open cities mod but still got the problem. Fortunately my last clean save is only 4 real life hours of play so I only have to work through 6 quests and a couple of oblivion gates to get back to where I currently am. BlueGunk
Hi All I read these posts with interest. I have suddenly started getting CTD on any save - New, Streamlined, Autosave (which is normally turned off) See you Sleep saves, even on Console saves. My game's been good and stable for ages though I recently had to run Abomb in Wrye to clear a few glitches. All my mods look good - have stripped recent ones back and reloaded, have tried going back a few saves. I've examined Bash, used BOSS, anything I can think of. Always the same. I tried the clear out the save folder trick. I've checked the Event Logs and they show Application error 1000 and 0xc0000005 and Oblivion.exe at fault so I tried replacing Oblivion.exe with an earlier back-up copy. I've looked into DEP, anti-virus, sigh! I'm stumped. Any unusual things that might cause a CTD on save? The game plays fine until saving. One final note, if I right click on the CTD saved file in Wrye Bash, and look at Statistics, I get this dialogue:Traceback (most recent call last): File "bash\basher.pyo", line 13457, in Execute File "bash\bosh.pyo", line 5899, in load File "bash\bolt.pyo", line 1936, in unpackstruct.error: unpack requires a string argument of length 2 The title of the box this comes in is WxPython stdout / stderr UPDATE: I've now tried reinstalling Wry Bash. I have also tested a vanilla version of the game and it worked perfectly, as did the OBSE loader version of the vanilla. Hmm. I'm working my way through removing mods but I'm going to land in hot water soon because I can't save anywhere. My game play is stuck in Elsweyr. Gulp. If anyone can help I'd be utterly grateful. Oh - and I tried the "KillAll" command in case of bad spawn... :wallbash: Thanks, Clive
