Skyrim complete PC crashes

Sorry for my English, it is not my native language.

I had same problem with Skyrim crashing to black screen. I did everything suggested in this forum and many others. For last 1.5 months, I tried every tweak and workaround I found. Nothing worked.

Now I found solution. It works for me, and may work for someone else, but no guarantee.

I downclocked shader frequency of the videocard for approximately 5% (1242 default, 1155 now). GPU and memory frequencies left unchanged. Crashes to black screen stopped completely, 5+ hours in “problem” areas without crashes. Before I changed shader frequency game crashed after 30-60 sec. in same areas. Perfomance loss (if any exists) completely unnoticeable, game running on “ultra” with some options set even higher, twice higher in some cases (manually tweaked INI) and with SSAO enabled.

I used nVidia system tools, and made loading/unloading profile automatic when game starts/stops. Now I have stable Skyrim and no performance loss in other applications.

My system:

CPU: Intel Core i5 750 (2.67)

Video: GeForce GTX 295 (single PCB)

Memory: 8GB (4x2GB)

OS: Windows 7 x64

Most of my complete crashes have vanished (except the one when looking at the elven arrows), now I have freezes (I have to Ctrl-Alt-Tab out and close it). That's not really better..

How exactly did it Vanish, what did you do install ATIUMGD.dll or underclock gpu or anti freeze ENB patch.

^^ Should be the same for both nvidia and ati.

1. Download yourself an older version of your ati cards drivers from http://www.oldapps.com/ati.php (try and aim for drivers that are about a year or so old.)

2. when its installing there should be an option for a clean install - do it (this means that first it will completely get rid of all your current ati drivers and CCC profiles.)

3. Then turn off skyrims AA, anistropic filtering and FXAA.

4. Like I mentioned before, if you go into catalyst control center to where it has individual game profiles and if skyrim and portal are listed there then the driver was too recent. You need a driver/CCC that's old enough to not recognize/autoprofile skyrim, but new enough to not suck.

Hope this helps :)

So far, that has gotten rid of my Yellow Texture, but I haven't played long enough to find out.

But last time I played, I entered a building and there was Yellow textures every where.

I still have to play long enough to see if it crashes me though.

Will report back later

Update:

Monitor turned off when looking at mountains. =l

Reinstalled, patched, modded (STEP-Guide on Nexus).

I have GTX560Ti so atiumgd.dll wouldn't have helped.

After 180 hours or so of no crash play I have been struggling with these crashes. Similar to everyone else, game crash, monitor goes off/orange light, sound glitches up, system either crashes and reboots itself or I have to do a hard reset. This is very frustrating to say the least as the game is unplayable for me now. I must admit I am playing with a large amount of mods and don't even know if my game save would load if disabling all of them. I don't understand how Skyrim could completely crash my system the way it does. I'm going to backup my game saves and start a new game with no mods whatsoever and see if the problem persists. I'm thinking it has something to do with the game save for some reason.

So I have tried the following to no avail:

Upgraded system drivers to latest. (Bios, Chipset, Video, Raid, Sound)

Various Stress Test.

Lowering Clock Speeds. (Video & CPU)

Deleting anything having to do with the game except for saved games and reinstalling.

So the game even at stock but with old game save is still crashing. For me the crashes have been both indoors and outdoors.

Edit:

Deleted anything related to Skyrim from PC, reinstalled, started a new game and still got a crash. I guess I've had my share of fun. New Vegas, here I come =(
