Skyrim complete PC crashes

Yeah, other games have the same issue too (at least with my rig) such as gta iv, fallout 3, and fallout NV. The fallouts crash when using vats and gta will just randomly but most likely when crashing cars or something.

Skyrim crashes without warning. It's usually when out in open areas or cities and sometimes on the map and maybe inside houses or dungeons. But overall it's random.

It's really a pain in the ass. STILL not able to enjoy my f***ing game.

After 15 hours of playing I finally got my first black screen crash for a reason other than viewing my map. For the first time I decided to ride a horse since I found one in a bandit camp, and after about 10 seconds of riding....crash. Just great. So I decided to try it again with a horse I bought from the stable, same result. So now I can't...

-use my map

-ride a horse

...without my PC crashing. Hope this gets fixed soon damn it, my patience is wearing thin.

I have what might be bad news. There's a chance the issue lies with my graphics card and NOT the game after all.

I borrowed an old ATI card to try out, and everything works fine, despite looking and performing like crap. I got no black screens long past where I experienced my first one with my own GPU. This explains why playing from a separate HDD didn't work.

I still think it's a problem with SOME 6850s and 6870s, and possibly others in the same "HD" series. Mine is an HIS IceQ X Turbo X HD6870.

I wouldn't say that. Many users have this problem only happening in Skyrim, while all the other games that got released recently (And are way more demanding) run just fine.

To me it looks like, that the developers didn't test their game properly on enough hardware setups before releasing it.

Agreed. I run BF3 on all high and some ultra settings silky smooth, and it pushes my card far harder than Skyrim. My card certainly isn't broken. If I can replicate the crash by doing specific things (viewing my map, riding a horse) it tells me it's a game coding problem that needs a patch now.

Hmm switched back to my laptop with CPU limited to 70%..no problem this time :/ my desktop crashed really fast..but it runs so much smoother there narf...patch it!

So thats 3 people now who have trottled there cpu and it's working maybe if some in here wants to change the multiplier on there motherboard i.e 13 to 9 or 10 just to test,

if it works then, a least we've found out what the problem is.

Funny thing it only works for my laptop..my desktop keeps crashing. Maybe my laptop just got to hot before and shut down and didn´t suffer from the bug.

Laptop:

Intel I5 M460

Nvidia GT 420M

4GB Ram

Dekstop:

AMD X4 955

ATI 6870

4GB Ram

I have never experienced this problem with any other game..I doubt it´s hardware related..maybe it´s the way the engine communicates with the drivers or something like that. Maybe it´s because their new engine can compress things like no other to save hard disk space and therefore makes some mistakes doing it..I simply do not know and I don´t really care about it..hell who would have cared if Skyrim used 20gb of disk space? So today is Friday and nothing new..come on screw the next weekend I intended to play :O

it happens to me too,

cpu: AMD x6 1055T

mobo: asus M5A78l-m usb3

gpu: sapphire 6870HD 1GB ram ddr5

ram: corsair XMS3 1333 mhz. 8GB

500W power supply

dual screen and extra sound card.

logitec g510 and roccat kone(+)

tried switch off 1 screen, reinstalled the game drivers, clean install. memory cleaner etc.

drivers up to date and rolled back 20 times or so.

also it now blackscreens also when just using Firefox. anyone else got that problem, it also starts crashing with other games, i realy think its a memory problem or driver problem... ?

i hope the patch fixes this because i would have build me a pc with no use.

Hi

Same computer crashes here, it looks like being totally random but when it starts I get crashes every time I try to load a savegame (computer reboots with no warning as if I push the hardware reset button). I played a few hours but decided to stop because it is not usable that way (I have been able to start the game again after many reboots, but it seems to be some kind of magic-related !). I use a dual-core Intel CPU with Windows 7 and a Nvidia GTX 260.

I also noticed that sometimes, but not everytime a crash occurs, the config file gets destroyed or unreadable: the launcher detects again the optimum settings as for the first launch of the game. When it does, the game then plays normally, until next crash.

My girl-friend has the same problem, with an older ATI card and a AMD / Windows XP system. I think, but cannot be totally sure of it, that she installed once some DX11 backport unofficial package for XP. I don't know if this information is useful, but I have heard that these crashes are Windows-7 related and this could be a clue.

She also tried to install the game on an old laptop (Toshiba Satellite A200) which runs Windows XP (with NO DX11 thing as far as I know). She has been playing 2 days with no problem.

Hope this helps...
