TheMastersSon
One of the largest collections of early color photos was compiled by our federal government, between 1939 and 1943. For many years all I ever saw were black and white photos of this era, it's amazing how color transforms it into real life imo.The complete archive is over 1600 color slides and photos, organized into 17 pages of 100 images each. Unfortunately they start off with some relatively boring sets, much better ones are embedded deeper in the archive. High-resolution TIFF scans are available for all images (the photos linked in this post are JPG for reduced bandwidth):http://www.loc.gov/pictures/search/?st=grid&co=fsacThe one that stopped me cold in my tracks was this:http://cdn.loc.gov/service/pnp/fsac/1a33000/1a33900/1a33921v.jpgI had no idea that hammerhead rides existed so early, or human freak shows existed so late. Especially that second one, this photo is from 1941 not the 20's. Just beyond sad imo.A few more samples to get the general idea:October 1940:http://cdn.loc.gov/service/pnp/fsac/1a34000/1a34000/1a34096v.jpgM-4 tank crew, Ft. TheMastersSon
So many of these images looked vaguely familiar, then a friend commented that some are directly out of Fallout New Vegas. I believe that's Carlyle St. Clair's house in the last photo. http://cdn.loc.gov/service/pnp/fsac/1a34000/1a34300/1a34316v.jpg http://cdn.loc.gov/service/pnp/fsac/1a34000/1a34300/1a34320v.jpg http://cdn.loc.gov/service/pnp/fsac/1a34000/1a34300/1a34395v.jpg Edited September 17, 2016 by TheMastersSon
sunshinenbrick
Some of these look so real... such amazing photography! And to think, done with such 'vintage' technology too.
