Deseoso
My game of fallout 4 did used to load to the main menu as normal but as soon as I would try and start a new game it would crash to the desktop. Someone on here told me that with some of the mods that I used to use that my Fallout ini files were probably causing the crash. I moved the entire Fallout folder with the ini files to my desktop temporarily and I re-downloaded and installed the entire game again. Then I started Fallout 4 and it crashed straight away. I went to open the folder with the ini files and found that it is not there. I assumed that by re-downloading the game that it would include the ini files. Any idea how I can get the Fallout ini files? I could just replace the Fallout 4 folder from my desktop back into My Documents\My games where I took it from but that will just allow the game to be loaded to the main menu before crashing. Anyone? JimmyRJump
The files are generated after having started a game. If and when the game crashes before having initiated a first game, no ini files will be generated. At least, that's how I understand it... I always make a back-up of the Fallout4.ini.. so here it is (the original, unmodded file, except for the addition of the lines needed for modding the game bInvalidateOlderFiles=1 sResourceDataDirsFinal=): get Notepad++ for better overlook. It's free, no ads or whatever... or simply copy/paste with regular notepad. bill8872
The last time I redid my .ini, and perf files, the game did not create the FO4custom.ini. You have to create that manually. At one point early in the game that file was created by Steam, but it is not needed to play the game. Only NMM thinks it is still needed. Deseoso
Okay, well I am completely stumped then. My system should run the game no problem. I found that I had a bad resolution set on the game which is what was causing the game to crash as I tried to load it. With that fixed though I cannot figure out why the game crashed to the desktop when I now try and start a new game. I am loading it without any mods at all and it simply won't start a new game. Where do I even start to troubleshoot this?
bill8872
Did you replace the FO4 folder back under my documents. games folder? If so, and it still crashes, then delete them, and start the game through the FO4.exe, and let steam create them. Deseoso
Okay, so I replaced the FO4 folder back into my documents. The game menu will load but it crashes when I try and start a new game. So I moved the FO4 folder from My Documents/My Games and put it back on my desktop. I then tried to start the game by double clicking the FO4.exe file but the game crashed before even loading the menu. Strange thing is that it still created new ini files but it will now not even load the menu. What the hell is going on?
2much4l1
Have you never used mods or have you just uninstalled them? Check your Data folder for an Interface folder and delete it if you have one.
Deseoso
I used to use a lot of mods and I realised that my mods were still all in my Data folder. I decided to start over completely. I deleted all my mods, I uninstalled Fallout 4 from Steam and then I removed the Fallout 4 folder entirely from SteamApps/Common. I decided to start over as though I never had Fallout 4. I then re-downloaded and installed the entire game again. Once completed, I clicked on PLAY from within Steam. The game crashed straight away. Didn't even make it to the menu. I tried again by double clicking the FO4.exe file. Again, crashed straight away. This doesn't make any sense. I know the game works on my system. I have played it on my system. I'm getting really angry now. I have paid for all the DLC and the game won't even start. I cannot think of anything else to try.
bill8872
To me it seems Steam is the issue here.If you have no other Steam games, and you tried removing Steam, and reinstalling it?
