Bava
Woah, how did I manage to miss this thread until now, some very impressive modelling, prometheus! On the nordic look...I think its the 'blocky' carvings on the dragon/hilt and its too realistic. Celtic/viking images are more stylised with very fluid lines. Two pics to show what I mean: http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/zz23/Chapmanfan/Southampton/th_Eagle-OVA.jpghttp://i810.photobucket.com/albums/zz23/Chapmanfan/Southampton/th_kendra2.jpg Anyway, I really like how it looks now and if you´re aiming for a mix of oriental and noridic influences, you´re pretty much there already imo :)
PrometheusTS
Thanks everyone , woudl you be able to suggest using one of the previously posted sketches the parts that you think I could redo or eliminate in order to give a more nord feel? I put the plaques actually to have a firmer grip on the sword and a more "scaled protection lie the dragons ... I wasn 't thinkinf of aztec , but may be I got influecned somehow inconsciously because of liking of their art style and work I was doing for my tropical island in cryengine .. anyway how about the new added teeths , claw guard and eye slit? oh and here I elaborated the quest for the sword if you want to give a look ... http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/498870-dovahkiin-do-joor-kaal/ Edited December 18, 2011 by PROMETHEUS_ts
t0mm06
Hi, on the Nord look, maybe draw some influence on the handle of your drawing 10?But to be honest the most nordic looking handle would just be simple and have leather wrapped around it. The blade and guard can be ornate but nords like practical weapons and a nice leather strap is much nicer to hold then ornate carvings
PrometheusTS
I tried to stay similar to 7 and 9 as the 10 looks like a chamaleon , the 11 seems chineese and the 12 thailandish ... http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/1964/dragonswordconceptsketc.jpg but the 10'th grip is more like the squared look grip , the idea was on the last picture I posted that the plaques would be bronze refinitures while the carvings of theunderlying grip should be ivory , but the carvings are definetly nordic this is the one I did for the sword ... http://img849.imageshack.us/img849/4378/dknot.jpg and some other variations ... Draco856
3, 5, and 7 look the most nordic to me. I like the teeth, eyes and claw guard.
zheng
i hope i don't miss this when it gets released. the drawings of the hilt (i personally like 9 - 12 from the first post) and the blade shape look amazing.
Faize173
Something i have noticed, why is everyone set on the idea of a nordic blade, almost all of the dragon related weapons (the blades) have a VERY eastern feel. also Nordic blades would be double sided and symetrical. i would suggest going back to your original style and maybe adding more of a curve to the blade
PrometheusTS
The blade has some mixed influence nordic and akaviri ... The general shape , the single sided look , straight design and slight curve should be akaviri feel while the straight blade itself a heavy sword the carving designs snd the blade double sided is more western snd nordic. .... It seems single sided but instead is double ...
Galacticat42
http://img850.imageshack.us/img850/6685/dragonsword2.jpg I am incredibly, terribly sorry for this... But the 'guard claw' looks like that dragon's genitalia.
Ghogiel
why be sorry? a sword is a huge phallic symbol in itself, it's extra masculine when your sword has it own little sword. it's the best part
