Which Star Trek is the best?

I choose TNG and Jean-Luc Picard, simply because it was my parent favorite, so I grew up watching it.

Now you may be asking:

Isn't this a little non-serious compared to the other debates in this section:

Answer:

Yes, but I have seen people argue about Star Trek before, and it can get pretty extreme.

If you find this an inappropriate section, then mods, feel free to move it to the general discussion.

Voyager and Captain Janeway FTW! :P

I like Picard as well, but I enjoyed Janeway and Voyager much more. It was the only series I watched all the way to the end. Seven-of-Nine was awesome, and the interactions between Janeway and Q were hilarious. ;D

*PS. There was also a series called Star Trek: Andromeda, with Captain Dylan Hunt (Kevin Sorbo), although I don't know if it was ever considered "official" Star Trek.*

Oooooo, THANK YOU! Gonna have to see if I can find that series online somewhere.

Andromeda was a different thing entirely. Similar premise but entirely different in that it's one ship against a universe that had passed it by.

Best captain is Picard. He was both distant with his crew, but still had them in heart. Smart and confident even when faced with impossible odds. No other captain took to the role as a leader as well.

Best series in my opinion is DS9. I know it has a whole love/hate thing, but it's the only series which really showed what it was like to live and work in space. It was more about politics and a deeper look at race relations than any of the other series. Less zoming around in space and "alien of the week", more "how do these people actually get along despite their differences, over the long term." That is, in many ways what the original view of Startrek was all about.

Picard was the only one who actually acted like a naval officer, Kirk was fun but would have never made it past the academy if Star Fleet were a real service, as for Janeway...a candidate for the worst commander one could ask to serve under.

I agree with the above about Picard and with Vagrant. Picard was the best commander and Q who started with him was awesome there. Much more moral compassing there. Janeway was terrible but I thought the idea of her native american commander interesting.

I really liked Deep Space 9 for the reasons mentioned. I loved Terri Ferrel (sp?) her character and until it got a bit sappy at the end it was well done. I actually started watching the Next Generation AFTER DS9 as I have always been a much bigger SW fan that a trekke.

Still though kudos to the first show for making a whole bunch of kids turn into today's physicist.

That makes me feel old. I first started watching it in its last season when I was a teenager and have seen all the other episodes as reruns. Anyway, I liked Picard as a captain, but preferred DS9 because it seems they had more of their story details worked out. When I go back and look at TNG I see how they started some ideas - the Ferengi, the Cardassians - but DS9 was where they finalized more of their lore and storytelling. I guess I'm saying when I go back and watch old episodes of TNG, it almost feels like a work in progress or something.

In my opinion Deep Space Nine was the best series.

It was the only series that seemed realistic, well as realistic as Star Trek gets!

My point being, not much really went wrong in the other series (it is possible I am wrong on the two that I have not watched: the Original or TNG)

On DS9, half the station was falling apart at least 90% of the show!

Other reasons include what Vagrant0 said.

I also think that DS9 showed the humanity of the characters better than the other series'. The other characters from other shows did not seem quite as real as the ones in DS9 were, at least to me.
