If you became the leader of your nation...

I am an Australian and our Federal Government sucks.

I am an South Australian and our State Government sucks.

Things would definitely change if I were Prime Minister.

I would

- Focus on strengthening infrastructure in places that desperately require it, places like South Australia, Western Australia and Queensland.

- Bring in nuclear power as a viable power source, while focusing on other clean energies.

- Give jobs to anyone who is qualified and is a citizen.

- Take back control of amenities such as power generation, communication and water treatment from the corporations.

- send expeditions to discover new veins of precious minerals.

What would you do as leader of your nation?

Resign! I would fear for my soul and integrity in such office. I don't want to become as corrupt and oppressive as the politicians are and as Voltair stated out : "With great power there must also come — great responsibility! , but with great power also comes more often the great temptation of abuses which is more often the case. So I would resign in flavour of a known and well respected protector of the Constitution and human rights activists in the hopes that we will not abuse the power given by the citizens. Pass laws which block companies from being treated as individuals and cap their donations to any single individual to $500 or $3000 annually to any individual.

Pass laws which require all donation contributions to be public record and readily available for anyone to run in an election for congress, president, governor, mayor, state assembly, or any position which is entitled to pass laws or decide state/national contracts.

Cap all federal wages to be approximately triple the national minimum wage, allow government funded services for all employees managed by an oversight committee to determine what additional allotments are appropriate for any given position. Require accountability and wage garnishment for individuals who misuse these services.

Require all congressmen to maintain occupied housing 8 months of the year in the state they represent, and to have lived in that state for atleast 6 years prior.

Establish 20 year term limits for all public office, but require public executions after the term is up, they are removed from office, or a person is voted out.

Public office should be about civic duty and wanting to make the world better, not about lining your own pockets or landing yourself some cushy corporate job once you leave.

Set a maximum of two terms for MPs, get rid of the careerists this way.

Deregulate as much as possible, the economy can't grow while business is tied up in red tape.

Take an axe to the public sector, keep those who actually do something (police ect.) and get rid of the unnecessary bureaucrats, the health and safety wonks, diversity officers ect.

Leave the EU, we can still trade without all the other crap that comes with it. The £65 billion+ a year it costs could be far better spent elsewhere.

Temporarily stop all immigration, we have 3 million unemployed, a housing shortage, a massive debt and our public services are overstretched, we are a small island that is rapidly running out of room. Anyway we should be training our own, not importing people from overseas while ours sit and rot on welfare. (before someone screams "Racism, derp, dribble") it applies to all races.

MPs expenses should be limited to second home rental and travel, no more buying houses on expenses.

Sell off the BBC, people should not be forced to fund left wing propaganda and anti-Semitism though a regressive tax that hits poorest hardest.

Force the banks to spin off their personal banking into separate companies, this protects individuals from the banks casino investments.

Invest in nuclear power, stop subsidising wind turbines and other useless nonsense.

Put Gordon Browns head on a stick outside the Tower of London.

That'll do for now.

Expropriate corporate assets, disolve capitalism, shift economic focus onto the community level and press forward to a proper socialist revolution (Not that crap-shoot Stalin got his fingers into).

More realistically, my first action would be implementing protectionist reforms. Internal sustainability is good for the global economy, regardless of what any free-market advocates try to argue.

We tried several steps along the way to that in Britain. Didn't work.

@jim_uk, consider yourself elected.
