hoofhearted4
the sales of the psvita are actually good for a handheld, remember the sales of the 3ds when it first launched, it swamped and it they reduced the price of the 3d. Although the psvita hasn't yet and they sold 1.8m this year alone. the 3DS was just over priced. the DS in general is the best selling handheld currently out. and not only did they reduce the price, but because they realized they had it too high to begin with, they gave away a bunch of free games to anyone who bought it before the price drop (me being one of them) now that is company service. Acebopata
I happen to like the Vita, it's a great system in my opinion. But they need more games, though.
hoofhearted4
I happen to like the Vita, it's a great system in my opinion. But they need more games, though. i dont doubt the tech. its got some great hardware. great graphics and im sure some good games. but the handheld, on the go market, doesnt want nor care about stuff like that. they want simple games. thats why games on the iphone and ipad are top sellers, because they are simple and easy to play for a bit while your waiting for whatever for 15 minutes. whereas playing Skyrim on your handheld, probably not going to be useful for a 15 minute wait. the market of games, like Thor, who love games and hardware, who are drawn to this and having power in their hands on the go, are much smaller then the market that wants the console just for the go and nothing else. those are the ones who get the (3)DS for its fun easy and simple but still compelling games, over the Vita, with its still great games, but much more complex and in depth. again, just not good for the 15 minute down time, which is what handheld consoles should be geared too. Thor.
Dude, whats with the hating. Its like you bypassed my comment entirely, the sales are better then the 3ds, look at the charts.. The company might be failing but the handheld is doing better then expected.. Better then the 3ds was in its first year.. Edited May 12, 2012 by Thor. JimboUK
Dude, whats with the hating. Its like you bypassed my comment entirely, the sales are better then the 3ds, look at the charts.. The company might be failing but the handheld is doing better then expected.. Better then the 3ds was in its first year.. Neither of them are doing that well, both are being squeezed by iOS and Android. Both companies are selling their devices at a loss, the difference is Nintendo are selling games and getting their money back, Sony aren't. The Vita is a great bit of kit but it was the wrong device at the wrong time, it's a premium product released in a global downturn and into a far more competitive market. Sony should have built on the Xperia, they would still of had their own games but also could have been more involved with the ever growing Android. People will pay a small fortune for a good smartphone, a lot more than they'll pay for a handheld console, Samsung, Apple and HTC have proved that. hoofhearted4
as far as i can see. the Vita only outsold the 3DS in its first week in Europe. in Japan and NA the 3DS sold more in its first week then the Vita... currently. the 3DS is still ahead. i think even the PSP is ahead of Vita in sales. i found records showing this true in January, and another article saying the Vita sales are down to 4 digits as of April where as 3DS is still in 5 digit sales. and the PSP was in 5 digits as well. regardless. im not hating. the Vita is a marvelous piece of tech. but its just not going to happen. the handheld market doesnt want a powerhouse....and as far as the 3DS sales not being amazing, i mean, you gotta think of how many people already have one of the iterations of the DS. RubikNight
Point taken. But then there's a heck lot of sales in China unaccounted for anywhere. I use near and I find hundreds of people walking around with their Vita everywhere I go.
Thor.
So Hoofhearted, you say that people don't want a powerful handheld, but everyones different. You might not like the idea, but a lot of us do think its great handheld, although the first year for any console lacks in games. You can't judge what a person wants.. i know now several people funny enough who has one now, although the lack of advertising for the psvita is disturbing, thats the problem right there. Thor.
Just give it a chance, you can't just down play a console just because the opposition has a majority.. Its all about the games, just you wait, when COD comes out that'll change. Edited May 15, 2012 by Thor.
