Fallout 4 cannot start due to NMM and it's many shortcomings

I get the error message "failed to launch fallout 4.exe system could not find the file specified" and it's honestly infuriating. Not only is Steam known for putting users in positions like this, where obscure loopholes need to be solved just to play a damn game, but NMM is one of the most infuriating systems ever. The layout has never worked well for me, and I need help. Not to mention, these help threads never have what I need 98% of the time, and everyone's problems differ in some way, shape or form that renders these threads pointless in a way. But if you can help me, please do.

So I have mods installed within my NMM, and I can't begin my Fallout experience with mods because of the error. It's never helpful of course, as always and I'm left having to figure out just what the Hell I'm supposed to do on my own accord. Well I'm through with that, I just want to play the game. From what I can tell it's having a hard time finding my Fallout.exe file. If I need to rework the paths, how can I go about doing it? What I mean is, let's say you install NMM and then you see these three directories as you make a clean install. Is there a way for me to see that selection screen at that point without having to reinstall NMM? That's assuming it is the issue, of course.

SOMEBODY should know what this is. What this damn error is, and how to resolve it. Ask any questions you may have. I just want to play the damn game.

click settings (gears symbol) > Fallout 4 tab

did you start the game through steam before modding?

do you need to start through NMM?

do you need F4SE?

Glad you happened by. I can play Fallout 4 through steam just fine, though I barely played it after this re-installation of FO4. I know that NMM never worked before and that I got my mods working through other, sadly less reliable means. See, F4SE is something I JUST downloaded (hopefully I got the right file) and I think I do need to start it via NMM, otherwise will the mods still work? Any other details you have would be gladly welcomed as well. And thank you for your time.

Open NMM and rescan installed games, it's the arrow doing a circle on the top right corner

You can also launch F4SE through NMM, top left it allows you to choose what you want to launch

Still doesn't work. Despite re scanning. Does anyone actually know what the error message "failed to launch fallout 4.exe system could not find the file specified" even means?

Okay, I f***ing hate this situation more already. F4SE has outright terrible read mes. Can you please, PLEASE f***ing help me? Either I need F4SE or I do not. Eitherway, I just want to use my mods already. Get people you know on this, do SOMETHING! I can't stand it when the Nexus Mod Manager, in all it's shittiness doesn't work and I'm left with NOTHING! Come on, some one has to know what that f***ing error means.

Blaming all kinds of stuff except yourself isn't going to help much. I have around ten-thousand hours in FO4 and been using NMM since mods were released; have meanwhile tried over twelve-hundred mods, including F4SE and the latter works like a charm. So, you obviously did something wrong.

The error you get means that the path from NMM to where the FO4 launcher is sitting, isn't correct and NMM cannot find the .exe...

F4SE needs to be installed in the main FO4 install folder, next to the other launchers; not inside the Data folder.

Here's a screenshot of the directory http://i.imgur.com/fL4Q98V.png

Also, THIS JUST IN I figured out how to change the layout and get launching from NMM. But some of the mods don't function. Also, I'll be gathering some screenshots on F3SE because that's just a clusterf*#@. Hold up for a moment.

So first screenshot. This is an example. I’m looking at two folders in the src, if I should place F4SE in my Fallout 4 data folder, or my main Fallout 4 folder, then should I place every single .dll file, .pex file etc.

About those .pex and .dll and more...See, I have a hard time understanding if every single non folder file should be placed there, or wherever it should be or not. This is a massive gripe I have with people who make these read me files or tutorials. Where should every single file go?

These are screenshots to help. Other than this, I need further questions for anyone willing to help. I’ll walk through it with anyone. But for anyone willing to randomly act like a snarky twat, I’m not looking for that trouble. Go troll someone else.
