Mass Effect 3 Will Require Origin on PC

my problem is EA gives a total BS statement about why it wont be on steam or anywhere else

"Steam has adopted a set of restrictive terms of service which limit how developers interact with customers to deliver patches and other downloadable content. We are intent on providing Mass Effect to players with the best possible experience no matter where they purchase or play their game, and are happy to partner with any download service that does not restrict our ability to connect directly with our consumers."

they could just say they want to use their own DRM for their games now not say herp a derp steam is bad origin is better! only thing origin has is its customer service its 100X better then steam because you can talk to real people in minutes other then that there's no plus to using origin.

All EULA do that, EA just made it plain to read for it's users. I have a friend who has Origins and has recently done a scan, there is no evidence that Origins scans your harddrive. Here's even a pic.

Do you have any solid evidence (and by solid I mean anti-virus scans) that Origin scans your entire harddisk? Do you? Throwing me second hand accounts isn't going to help your case. Seriously there are more things to worry about than something that doesn't exist (like the wavering of class action lawsuits). This is a minor annoyance, nothing more.

All patches and DLC from now on must go through Valve and Steam, in order to be then released to the public. EA didn't like that so they pulled out all recent games, so it's hardly EA's fault. Besides, Notch hasn't put Minecraft in for that very same reason, so are you accusing Notch of the same thing as well?

The fine point is Steam is the same s(word) than origin. The possibility to scan your system is not minor concern but is not the major here. These marketing models are designed so to constrict the user slowly but inexorably. There is no hurry, the prey can't scape.

Edit: Whatever, you'll not find any Origin scanning on your system, did you not see they talking is putting it under the OS itself, as MS is more reliable in this issue. Some may find instructive reading a thing or two about the MS Palladium project, preferably not only from MS sources.

I want to talk about "The silence of the lambs", not the book... the meaning of this expression itself. It comes from the behavior of lambs when the wolf is near... they keep quiet, they know the wolf will take one and each one just hope it is not it's time yet. This fits well to them, nature endowed them with this behavior, they try hard not to attract attention over the self. I'll not ask or question if we are lambs or such.

The point is the marketing is the wolf there and the users are the lamb, just the similarity ends here, nature provided balance so the wolf is always the same, but this is not what happens with the marketing and the capitalism model. It need to grow to keep up... the wolf in this case grows all the time and can't be satisfied with only one lamb anymore, it need two... and then it need three.

But even the wolf knows he can't exterminate the lambs, he need them, so that specific wolf learn new tactics, instead devouring the lamb it bites a bit of each one many times and this may work for a time but the wolf still is growing and needing each time more.

Money is not the only thing, I dare to say is not even the main thing is being sought. Above all is the "control" what they are after.

i thought it was because he doesnt want DRM on minecraft. EA didnt pull its games because it wants to give us a better experience but because the want more of our money.

Um... That image... That's evidence. Take a better look. I also posted a video which shows it. You're even welcome to try on your own system to see just what EA is collecting data about.

Can I give you first hand evidence? No. Since I do not own any recent EA games, and have no desire in giving this company an irrevocable right to scan my computer and use this information as they wish, I won't use Origins, ever. Not even to prove a point. Not even if they paid me for all this information about me. Steam does not do this, Origins does.

Vagrant

You don't have to provide proof of anything to anybody, regardless of how loudly they demand it.

If people are foolish enough to ignore the good advice that you give and go ahead and install this ridiculous spyware then thats their lookout.

I was reading up on Origins the other day, shocking, just shocking.

If that's the future of gaming then I'm going to need a new hobby.

Besides Sony tried this and failed by having a class action lawsuit agianst them for trying to BLOCK lawsuits against tthem. They are only asking for something simular to happen to them. Its amazing it hasn't happened yet.

They are not amune.

Staying far away from Origin and thier illegal ways.

Although I'm gettiing it for ps3.

I'll be getting this on the PS3 or 360 then, had I not played the other two and wanted to see how it ends I wouldn't buy it at all. In another thread I posted a screenshot of it going through backed up SMS messages, I certainly wouldn't want it on my PC.

I already scanned my computer that that image was last build Origin, the recent one doesn't even do most of it. I check it and if you check the image, all Origin access has gone either to Origin files or EXE.explorer, which is common for most programs. There is no evidence of spyware and if there was any major evidence would have been posted by now.

You are letting paranoia and misinformation to fill you. If you had any shread of decency left, you would have realised that you lost all your personal information when you came on to the Internet. Why are you crying foul with EA and not with Valve, Facebook, Google, MS and other software copperations? They collect information too, Facebook searches all your cookies, so they can (in theory) know about which bank you use or where you get your porn collection. Google collect info on your seaches and can use "it" for their own purposes, which could be anything. You were always watched by big business, I just wish that people realize that instead of going on a rant over Origins.

Marthos: Foolish really? Is that your stance on anyone who has (god-forbid) a different viewpoint to you? I don't like it being force to go Origins but at least it belongs to the publisher and not a 3rd party like Steam. But please do go on.

Hector: No, I'm pretty sure that he said that Steam's TOR forces him to not post it. EA and Notch have every right to go content directly to their customers and Steam's TOR forbids that. Valve made the move and removed those games because they broke those rules. Valve wants as much money as possible as well, so to accuse EA and forget about Valve is hypocrisy at best.

I just downloaded Origin and tested it with Process Monitor to see what it's all about.

Here are the results:

http://imageshack.us/f/151/originj.png/

It's only scanning it's own folder or it's registry folder when I logged in.

Process Monitor is still running, and I didn't see any suspicious activity from Origin.

That makes me less worried, but I will still keep an eye on this thing.
