Sword and Board Warrior superior to Twohanded Warrior?

I recently finished a twohander run, with a high degree of restoration specialisation.

Now I am in the middle of a sword and board run, recently hit 100 in block and shield charge is simply insane.

With the 2er warrior I was jumping around and running away casting heal multiple times (I play on Master with a x2 difficulty) but that happens much less frequently with the sword and shield warrior, in particular, shield bash, disarm, shield charge, deflect as well as elemental protection are a godsend and the higher damage of the 2er warrior seems pretty irrelevant in light of those abilities, whether against arrows, magic, dragon breath or melee I don't thing I am imaging that the shield warrior is overall the more efficient warrior, in fact without my 2er nearly equal skill in restoration I would have been overwhelmed by enemies all the time, never mind the powerful turn undead spells, that my shield warrior has no need of. I use the Shield of Ysgramor, whose bonuses further enhance the warrior both in general and against magic and its size is a real asset as it covers nearly the entire upper body when blocking, so arrows are much more likely to be deflected, once again with my 2er he was just dodging, running and casting close wounds nonstop. I love huge 2er weapons but in terms of efficiency nothing beats the sword and boarder. What is your experience here?

Level 24 with my "Try out block this time" build and i find out I choice the wrong weapon it seems>_>

Two-handed block really doesnt do anything later in the game...it just means Im not doing damage while they continue to attack. Infact at this point I dont block I just bash real quick and never hold it up for very long. Perhaps I just need more skill/perks but I dont know.

2 handers are underpowered once you get to higher levels, where the enemies can do lots of damage to you, especially if you are running around without the shield. Besides, the damage of a single one-handed sword can approach that of a two-hander with the correct perks- with the advantage of having a faster attack speed.

all in all higher speed and protection advantageously compensate for the small output damage, this is specially valid when facing mobs of lesser foes.

Still, I'm no expert in warriors in any TES game to date, even when I try to build one it ends specializing in magic. The battle mage is the nearest I ever came of a warrior in TES games.

Guys, seriously, Shield Charge could be one of the best of ANY perks, it is the ultimate CC, especially for a warrior, nothing like knocking bandits off cliffs and towers and watching them plummet to death!

I do unrelenting force shout for that.

I tested a few and came out with dual wielding, taking the other out as quick as possible seemed to be the dominant strategy, since blocking didn't do that much effect for me. Either the foe didn't hurt much -> doesn't matter. Or the foe does hurt much, and for me it did it with blocking and without, so again, rather get him out of the way as quickly as possible.

Double damage output would needed a much larger damage input decrease than there is to vote for a shield. For me at least.

I can see your point and I think dual wielding does monstrous damage but when you are being attacked by 5 bandits at once with three of them being marauders, some defence is needed and the shield gives you both defence and offence. I can see dualwielding working up to a point but not on a pure warrior build where all you have is weapons and armour.

I Use the Quick reflexes Perk, apart for Archers and Magic ranged attacks that i don't see coming, in close combat, only 10% of the time i get hit, and i use twohanders swords

When in Slomo, make a sidestep and strike your attacker while he is still swinging his weapon.

You can also use Magic armor, like Stone Flesh or Ebonite Flesh to make up for the shield armor rating.

A wellthough out twohander build as more damage input then a onehand/shield, thus more dmg=fight over quicklier=less dmg you get.

And if you are surrounded, use a Fearspell/Shout.

my current set up is full ebony armor, fully improved, an enchanted ebony greatsword with absorb stamina and health enchantments. I cast ebony flesh spell and go in swinging.

The absorb stamina and health enchantments on the sword keep me fighting pretty well. I dont have any perks toward 2h yet. Seems to me like things are pretty balanced versus sword and shield. However I did notice in early levels you can destroy enemies with a 2h weapon pretty easy.

+30% magic absorption from the Alteration Atronach perk.

+50% magic absorption from the Atronach stone.

+30% magic resistance from the Alteration Magic Resistance perks.

+50% magic resistance from the Block Elemental Protection perk.

for a grand total of 80% magic absorption and 80% magic resistance. The block elemental resistance perk is fun to use. Makes you an Anti-magic god.
