[WIP] Atvir Dres: The Last Prince of Tear

Sorry that I've been away for a few days; I've been working a proposal for a new show lately, so my time's been taken up with that.

I hope it's all going well! Good luck with it.

Atvir's eager public is waiting somewhat patiently and will be here.

I just had a thought the other day, it would be kind of icing on the cake but still I figured I'd mention it.

I understand that in the future Atvir will be able to recognize the player's race, but there are many custom race mods out there- is it possible that he can have a special response to seeing a race that he doesn't know about? Like, if player is not "nordrace/highelfrace/ect" then have him say something else? I don't use custom race mods, but I know people do and it might just add more immersion that Atvir is a thinking living individual.

Oh I agree.

For a second I though you were going to ask for a custom message for the different races. I like this. I wonder if he'd be a little in awe or if he'd spit out a snarky comment. Or both. Ha ha.

@nakatika: I totally missed Avrusa's reference to living in Vivec. Good catch! Obviously Dunmer are quite long-lived. That said, I think that Divayth Fyr is probably a special case, since he is essentially the

of Morrowind.

@Cathary: This has been a busy week for me, professionally, and I'm afraid I haven't made much progress lately. However, I'm still planning to release the update by the end of the year.

@MysticEntity: That's an interesting thought. I've been considering how to deal with custom races, and a certain amount of awe, confusion, and (perhaps) distaste on Atvir's part makes sense. I'll try to scrape something like that together before the next update, but it may need to wait a little longer than that, given my workload these days.

@Proteus Draconis: Ha! The resemblance never occurred to me, but you're right, they are very similar characters.

It'll definitely work - Atvir doesn't really conflict with anything, to the best of my knowledge. The questions about custom races have more to do with his dialogue, much of which is/will be dependent on the player's race. However, the race-dependent lines always have a baseline response. In other words, there are often special lines for Dunmer, Argonians, etc., but there's also a standardized response for any race without a dialogue of its own.

Great, thanks! I have him with my Ranger at the moment and he's great. She's a fiery sort so I always imagine the two of then sniping at each other, even after romance begins :D

Hello in regards to updating would I need to uninstall and then reinstall the new version? Also if I was to do a clean save.. Would there be any quests that need disabling via console before removal? Or is it simply save uninstall, load save then thats it?

Loving the mod by the way!

@ScannerLegend: As it stands, no, there shouldn't be any need for a clean save. However, if you're asking about the upcoming update, then I'm very glad you asked. When it is released, everyone should make a clean save before installing it (ie. save, uninstall the mod, load your game, save again, install the updated mod, and reload). This means, of course, that you'll need to re-acquire Atvir at the New Gnisis Cornerclub. There are a couple of reasons for this:

-Argonian and Dunmer characters will have new intro dialogues more suited to their races.

-More importantly, the quest "A Friend of a Friend" becomes available after one real-time hour of adventuring with Atvir. However, the trigger that makes this possible is "set" during the introductory dialogue.

If you really don't want to make a clean save for whatever reason, it will be possible to start the quest via the console. However, it is much more advisable to go the clean save route, as that will guarantee that your version of Atvir is fully up to date, and will reduce the risk of bugs.

I'll include all this information in the readme and on the download page when the update is released.

Ummm....question, how badly do you need a 3D artist- or do you need one presently? I really love Atvir so I want to help you guys...but I've only ever modeled in maya- aka I've never actually exported anything anywhere sooo I'd need someone to get me up to speed on how it all works for Skyrim.

@mysticentity: First off, thanks for the offer! To answer your question, I have an artist tentatively lined up for Atvir's skin (she has recently released a large mod of her own, and is taking a break before tackling another project - but she has expressed interest). I'm also in contact with another artist about completing Atvir's clothes and armour, which are 80-90% complete. That said, I won't turn down an offer of help, particularly not from someone with a background in 3D modelling! There are a number of Dunmer-related items that I'd like to incorporate into the project... things which, while not integral to Atvir or his questlines, would really help bring the Dunmer diaspora to life. Here are a few examples, off the top of my head:

-Signet rings for House Dres, and other minor Houses

-Waiting Doors (ie. shrines to the ancestors and the Daedra that Dunmer keep in their homes)

-Tapestries, in the style found in TES III

-Dunmeri foods, such as marshmerrow, kwama eggs, and saltrice

Some of those might make excellent starting points for you while you become accustomed to the process of exporting .nifs into the CK. While I won't be able to offer much guidance or assistance in that regard, I can help put you in contact with people who can. Once you feel comfortable with the process, we can re-assess what still needs to be done, and find some bigger projects for you to tackle - assuming you're still interested, of course.

EDIT: The situation has changed (for the better, from your perspective). I've messaged you with more details.

Hi,

I posted this in the other Atvir thread (the one with 2 pages) before I found this one. So please excuse the potential redundancy but as this seems to be the "proper" thread I'll post it again:

It would be nice if you could post Atvir's stats in the description, or if you don't want to reveal the exact numbers, tell us what he excels in. I just took him into my party and want to outfit him. Supposedly he likes light armor and one-handed weapons, but is he any good with shields? Can he do any kind magic? Is he perked up to prefer swords over axes and maces? Does he like to dual wield? The mod I use that allows me to see follower stats won't work on Atvir, unfortuantely. Liking him a lot so far btw. :)
