Syco21
It probably wont now, but only because of how much backlash there was over it. And it is important to keep up the pressure to limit the chances of anything similar.
BCbrad
Its actually all of Wikipedia! ("The blackout") And a form protest in favor of freedom and privacy. You could actually just click it, and see what it says...This is exactly the point! American congress is voting on a bill for American policy that will effect the rest of the world and the future of the internet. Sounds dramatic I know... but its a sign of things to come. btw, I am Canadian and really hope the Americans nuke this bill.
Aahzmandias
But Its stupid I can't even help them protest coz I am not an American.. why take the site down for the rest of the world??? If I could help I would but it needs a zip code and the only zip code I know is beverly hills 90210 >.< Because this crap will come to us ALL, if we do nothing about it. They try to censor and control 'the' web. The internet is not in America, it's all over the world. Besides that, all other countries will be forced to do the same, by the kind and righteous american nation. Look what they try with ACTA. You can mail this protestnote to your "local" government. ;) Edited January 19, 2012 by mkess

America bullied Spain into passing a SOPA like bill.

There have always been workarounds to censorship. But that is missing the point - the problem is the censorship itself, it doesn't matter one bit how easy it is to get around. If you let ineffective censorship in, sooner or later they will MAKE it effective (by making you a criminal for using workarounds). The Great Firewall of China is trivial to get around too... Galejro
Gandalf to SOPA/ ACTA - YOU SHALL NOT PASS!!!! and so do I. We have to stop this madness if we wish to mod bethesta games another day. This INTERNATIONAL bill will make nexus pages non-existant. Thausands of mods pictures and videos of bethestas games and modifications making it look like other games, movies and content is enough to make modding DEAD. You can't make a frostmourne mod making a sword look even slightly simmilar or even have a simmilar text name (not speaking of the model or texture) for skyrim cause Bethesda will oppose, Blizzard will oppose, Your contry will oppose, Your internet provider will oppose. To put it in as simple terms as possible once this bill or any pornography bill passes we are automatically criminals liable to be charged with prison, fines or internet cut-off. Look what they try with ACTA. You can mail this protestnote to your "local" government. ;)Exactly. The thing is that if these laws start to sprout everywhere (SOPA law in the US, part of the SINDE law in Spain, etc), there will be a point in wich, instead of making tons of different laws, they'll make a single international law, like ACTA. Its a domino effect, one country passes the law, then the ones with direct trade agreements to that country probably will too, and so on. What we would need to do is to enforce internet neutrality like Chile and Sweden. That would prevent any draconian measure like SOPA without making internet no man's land/terra nullius. Giving too many means for the pirate sites to protect themselves is asking for bad stuff to happen, but, doing the same for private companies with a profit at all costs culture ends up in the same place. Well, SOPA rather than giving means to protect copyright, actually gave means to attack with copyright... Well, that's what all of this is about, preventing copyright laws from being actually used to attack other ppl rather than just protect copyright holders.
