Thor.
Hey take a look at this article, hmm nvidea might be heading to the pc market as a chip manufacturer  http://www.eetimes.c...market-with-ARM Edited January 28, 2012 by Thor. nosisab
I'm terrified, I knew AMD would not try to compete with top Intel CPUs anymore but I hope it doe's not stop development and releasing good "enough" CPUs to have a niche on the mainstream desktop segment (where I dwell), for increasing the prices is the least I fear from Intel, let's say no more. dazzerfong
Well, it doesn't help that most gaming and 3D programming publishers/developers are siding with nVidia/Intel. I think it's a ruse, just a few years ago (before i7) AMD was taking the lead, and the lead between AMD and nVidia bounces every few years. Dan3345
They aren't quitting making GPU's, especially when that is handled by technically an entirely different company which was only purchased by AMD a few years ago. (ATI). What are they supposedly doing is ceasing to produce processors. I'm not trying to sound rude but how could that be a ruse, unless it is a PR stunt? Fonger
well it does sound like it WILL increase sales of their current processors
slimhouse
If AMD are going to put rescources into ' The Cloud' ...think thats where we all (end user) have 'basic' little PC Rigs and all the operating system and processing power, main memory is operated, held and maintained at vast, cenral online ' Servers ' ...!? hoofhearted4
@Dan take a look at the ASRock Extreme3 board. you might wanna save some money and just get that board (now that ive looked at it, im considering it too)...its still SLI compatable, the only thing thats different its less Sata3 ports and doesnt have a USB3.0 header. not a big deal to many. could save you ~$

So I think I will still vouch for the more expensive board, unless of course I can buy something which will turn a usb 2.0 into 3.0. Which I doubt but who knows. hoofhearted4
you cant turn the 2.0 into a 3.0.....for the case i plan on getting, it doesnt matter. the motherboard inputs face up, instead of the back (its rotated 90 degrees) so the front USB 3.0 plugs right into that, so the header would be useless i do agree that having a front USB 3.0 will be nice in the future. but i figured if point that out, save $60 if you wanted.....if a different case comes out before i build it that caches my eye, and it uses a header, then i would buy the extreme4 just to utilize the front ports, so i can deff understand you wanting to get the extreme4 just for the header. Commander19
Damn, I am going to miss having AMD around, I've been using their processors since the early iterations of Athlon and I've used several Intel systems, performance wise there is NO difference. At best Intel only has minor heat efficiency advantage over AMD processors, but I suppose it is for the best since FX was kind of a flop in the gaming market, being almost no different from the Phenom II X6 1100T (which I am using right now) other than the eight cores. Perhaps once AMD gets a foothold in the mobile market they will re-enter the desktop CPU, looks like my system is going to have to last for 5+ years, there is no way I am paying $1,000 for a performance-equivalent to AMD CPUs. If NVIDIA does go forth with the ARM for the desktop CPU market (as long as the price is fair) they could become the next "AMD" of desktop CPUs and I would buy from them instead.
