Seoman49
I'm also having frequent crashes with the new patch. CTD a couple of times per hour plus now I sometimes get hangups during loading scenes. Game was totally stable under the old patch - bummer... Got exactly the same issues since 1.4 has been released. I use SKSE... have just cleaned up my old SKSE files and re-installed it, see how it works tomorrow
mcgtron
Thanx for the advice and a post that made sense instead of a continuing whine about Steam. Followed your advice and every problem I had in Skyrim is now gone and the game runs smooth as silk. Yeah, its a bit of a pain, but it worked. Kudo's to you! i'm glad to help! - and i love your sig quotes, both Wayne and the Spartan. one other thing i forgot to mention is making sure your audio is set to 24-bit 44100Hz. if i set mine to a higher rate, i get crazy FPS fluctuations. i have now played at least 5 hours of Skyrim since my reinstall - and it is working flawelessly. the only oddity i have come across is that sometimes items are hovering an inch or two above the surface they are supposed to be on. no big deal. though i suppose i could whine and blame Steam and Bethesda, Bill Gates and NVIDIA, and the whole darn world for ruining my precious game!!!! Ikaaruz
Yes, I'm getting this problem too. CTD roughly every half hour. It would be nice if we lived in a world where fixing some bugs didn't reveal others, but here we are.Yes, a patch roll-back option would be nice on Steam. I'll wait to see if there is a mod-fix, or a hot-fix. F5 oughtta hold me over till then. I don't doubt that Bethesda QA checks forums to track these crashes and other types of issues. The best thing you can do is stand up and be counted; the devs who continue to work on our beloved games need data to fix these problems, not attitude. I'll try the newest SKSE 1.04.10, to see if that fixes it. Evidently there have been a few versions released over the lase couple days. http://skse.silverlock.org/ UPDATE: SKSE 1.04.10 solved all my crashing issues. Seoman49
I've installed SKSE 1.4.10 today, and since then... NO MORE ISSUES
dartmaul15
actually the problem is the patch. my game is perfect... until the dragons join in. if they shout, or die, then skyrim lock's up and ctd. it is starting to get really annoying, mostly because i am stuck in sovngarde due to the bug. nosisab
dartmaul15, seems there is no doubts you started having problems after the patch, the question is: are you sure is the patch that is "broken" or something already in your game is breaking it or that something is outdated for the patch? Remember, the savegame may be itself compromised by now, a sad reality that is not exclusive of Skyrim, it was the same for the previous games too, Morrowind, Oblivion (even Fallout series) had mods invalidated by patches or that broke the game after patches until it (the game) became stabilized enough and the mods updated. That's a risk all users should be aware when modding a game, instabilities and issues may happen even when the game is stable by itself (and may be never completely stable), introduced by mods conflicts, bugs, sometimes an unnoticed flaw in the game may be exposed by a mod... is astonishing the number of things that can go wrong... but this risk is much, MUCH greater in earlier stages of the game patching. Edit to complement: the 1.4.21 will not be the last patch, it only began covering the many quests bugs and game instabilities may exist yet, be discovered and fixed ahead, let's hope the next patches don't need to make structural changes so to invalidate the existent mods and the other way around. scot
My game was stable with my old system until patch 1.3.10, after that it was random CTD every 5 minutes, I upgraded my system and tried skyrim again random CTD continues (steam and skyrim are in an external hardrive) then I uninstalled steam and skyrim and installed them fresh, started the game from the beggining and played for hours and then the CTD came back -.- game became unplayable again, reinstalled steam and skyrim again and the CTD continue.Note I don´t use mods and my computer can run any gameon ultra, I have no performance issues with skyrim just the random CTD.Tried every fix there is and nothing, I´ll simply have to quit this game it seems :-(
jt70ss454
Mine started crashing after the patch as well. Uninstalled mods one at a time until it ran fine. Overlook Tower was the culprit, don't know why but now it runs fine.
0rangematter
i uninstalled Skyrim, uninstalled NMM, then went to my Steam\Common\Skyrim folder and deleted it, then went to my C:\Games\Skyrim folder and deleted it, then deleted everything in the Documents\My Games\Skyrim folder *except* for the Saves folder, which I left alone..........after that i reinstalled Skyrim, let Steam install all of the patches, edited my .ini files to my preferences (7 uGrids & some other minor tweaks), installed NMM, SKSE, and then reinstalled most of the mods i was using (SkyUI, SkyrimHD, and many others - but NOT SkyBoost which does not support patch 1.4). i loaded up the game and behold - i get a solid 50-60 FPS everywhere, on Ultra, everything maxxed, 7 uGrids, and this time i installed the Full version of SkyrimHD, whereas before i was running the Lite version. ......to all of you who are experiencing issues - did you try doing what i did? and i mean everything - especially deleteing the folders (just uninstalling and reinstalling does NOT create a truly fresh install). if you haven't, then i suggest you try it. it took me several hours, but it was worth it to play Skyrim in glorious HD at rock-solid FPS after the work was done. This may be sort of a noobish question but... how do you uninstall skyrim? I can't see a button for it anywhere. Do you use any special software to do it? I've got the CTD problem pretty bad.. at times it's happening once every 5 minutes. Really want to fix it. Only mods I'm using are SkyUI, Categorized favorites, Weapons of the third era and XCE character enhancement (newest version that takes into account -->) the HD texture pack from Steam. Is that my problem too? should I be using Skyrim HD form the nexus instead of the steam-y version??
Lunytic
There are a few possible ways, but the easiest is simply to right click Skyrim in Steam and select the second option from the bottom, "Delete Local Content". That should clean all the skyrim info out. Then, just to make sure you've got all user content deleted, go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim and delete anything left (you'll have to unzip SKSE again so SkyUI + CatFavs works again, dunno about the others). Then reinstall. Regarding the 'special' HD pack from Bethesda versus the 2k mod, it's really personal preference from what I've read. I haven't loaded Skyrim since I uninstalled the 2k and downloaded the Bethesda, but from what I've read elsewhere, it's really a matter of preference. The Bethesda pack is a little more encompassing as 2K apparently didn't retexture everything (but they did do a heckavalot!). So... basically you should be good with either.
