Bethesda HD pack override

Thanks all for the clear instructions for us noobs. One question: installed texture mods that dont have associated esp files will not be overriden using this method? Sorry if that's a dumb question.

Doing the following INI changes allows you to install custom texture mods as normal :).

Just think of it as the HD BSAs are now default, and anything different you add is just overwritten the normal way in the loose files I.E. the "Textures" or "Meshes" folders.

With ESP's, ESP's can still be used, and usually are used when you need something to take first are foremost priority, with for example if you were making FACIAL changes, but wanted say different eyes and different hair, just makes it less of a fiddle and more "streamlined" so to speak :).

Ah, cool - thanks for the info. So just to be sure, something like the Skyrim HD 2k texture pack would not need to copied over again manually (didnt use mod manager initially) to the data/textures folder after downloading the hi-res pack and making the ini adjustments?

@Jore, you missed adding it so "sResourceArchiveList2" see above :).

I edited both INI files accordingly now they look:

[Archive]

sResourceArchiveList=Skyrim - Misc.bsa, Skyrim - Shaders.bsa, Skyrim - Textures.bsa, Skyrim - Interface.bsa, Skyrim - Animations.bsa, Skyrim - Meshes.bsa, Skyrim - Sounds.bsa, HighResTexturePack01.bsa, HighResTexturePack02.bsa

sResourceArchiveList2=Skyrim - Voices.bsa, Skyrim - VoicesExtra.bsa, HighResTexturePack01.bsa, HighResTexturePack02.bsa

But they DLC high textures dont work when ESPs are disabeled.

Should be

[Archive]
sResourceArchiveList=Skyrim - Misc.bsa, Skyrim - Shaders.bsa, Skyrim - Textures.bsa, HighResTexturePack01.bsa, HighResTexturePack02.bsa, Skyrim - Interface.bsa, Skyrim - Animations.bsa, Skyrim - Meshes.bsa, Skyrim - Sounds.bsa
sResourceArchiveList2=Skyrim - Voices.bsa, Skyrim - VoicesExtra.bsa

Notice the textures packs are too stay together, maybe is that the problem, try again.

Okey problem for me was that I only edited INIs in mygames/skyrim/ and common/skyrim/. You have to also edit INI file in common/skyrim/data.

Oh my god, I love you and am willing to have your babies.

Your post got me thinking about how much of a pain in the backside it is to have ini files distributed across a few folders, and I started thinking 'what if there's an ini hiding somewhere that I'm not aware of?'

I did a search. It turned up four different skyrim.ini files. As soon as I pasted the correct string into each, I got my voices back. Now I need to re enable mods, but it's looking good right now.

One question. I noticed when I load the Nexus Mod Manager, in the "plugins" tab, there are two HD Texture pack options. Do I keep these enabled or disabled after I have changed the ini etc..? I believe these are from the texture package Beth released.

I read somewhere in this thread that you disable/enable this via the Skyrim launcher under "data files."

I'm trying an harder way, but without succes for now. Maybe someone can help me:

So I extracted the bsa and I made corrections listed here. Now I would repack the bsa. I tried to merge old vanilla textures with the new ones, then I repacked all in a 6GB bsa using FOMM BSA Creator, no compression, then I renamed it as "Skyrim - Textures.bsa": it doesn't work, doesn't read any texture at all. I tought the file was too big, so I remade it compressed (High). It's 3,8GB now but the game doesn't start.

Is it possible doing this? Where am I wrong?

File path inside the bsa seems to be correct: if I open it with BSA Browser I see "\textures\...." just as for the original.

max size for bsa is around 2,069,465,123 bytes size on disk
