So by this train of thought, A garage band that has been playing for years for friends, at their local block parties for fun and free, happens to get a gig at a club that offers them a cut of the door. Suddenly they have just sold out by getting paid!

If in the off chance there was a record producer in the audience that wanted to offer them a recording contract, the band would now be Stabbing it's Community in the back?

If you had watched that band play for all those years would you expect to not have to buy their records?

not the same at all.

if you are a musician that takes part in informal jam sessions with like minded people you don't suddenly demand that people who can hear you have to pay.

you played because it was fun and you enjoyed it, even though it involved the time taken learning how to play and might even be difficult at times. other people may well have enjoyed listening, dancing and or singing along, but that was a byproduct of your hobby, you haven't lost anything.

as a semi professional musician I can tell you that the music industry is a dirtier place than the gaming industry. the people in the suits control the product that gets pumped out on radio stations. music has become a meaningless disposable product. it is one of the reasons that there haven't been many classic songs written in the last decade or so, and the few there are are usually from band's first albums (material they wrote BEFORE the music industry git their claws in them).

but that is a whole different rant.

I don't have any of my records or CDs anymore because I gave them to my friends who came to see me play from the beginning. but then they are all people who I either knew before who came to support me personally or people I first met at those early shows who I stayed friends with.

a few really close friends even came on tours with us and we put them on our guest list.

Please point out to me where mod authors are demanding anything. This is beth OFFERING to pay mod authors for their efforts, and in the end, release OFFICIAL content. The garage band analogy applies quite accurately.

It's not Rocket Science bud, Putting mods behind a paywall is demanding money.

Then you should be looking at Beth, not the mod authors.

But the Bethesda isnt the one who decided to have the mod be behind the paywall.

On the flipside, nothing is forcing anyone to get the mods behind the paywall.

Oh. Right, mod authors forced bethesda to come up with this system, because they are evil, greedy, capitalists......

No matter which way you slice it, beth was going to find a way to monetize mods. You have already seen it with paid mods 1.0. The new system will be MUCH less dramatic. Not just any tom dick or harry is going to be able to put a mod behind a paywall. MA's are simply becoming third-party contract workers for beth. It is BETH's system, they set it up, they made the rules. Mod Authors are simply taking a chance at an opportunity. If it weren't mod authors, it would be someone else in the game industry already.

it was Zenimax (publisher) not Bethesda (game developer) that came up with the idea to make money off mods.

game developers love mods. I know for a fact that developers of the game I modded used my mods in their game because they mentioned it on their website.

but publishers hate mods. they generate no money for them and keep people playing old games rather than buying new games.

it's no wonder that publishers are starting to realise that they can make increase their profits by using other peoples' work.

I can already see the blog post they will release in the future.

"To ensure maximum quality and experience that we want for ALL PLATFORMS , we have decided not to release the creation kitt to public. Only our registered/recognized creation club members will be able to use the 'Online only creation kitt' and upload mods for review before finally being released into the common bethNet store. This will ensure all platforms have the same mods, experience.
Further promoting high end mods that help raise the experience the way we imagine."

And boom, Just like Take-Two took out gta community,
And since they make most sales on consoles, they will lock the system too. It will stop from console users wanting thousands of pc only mods, which they cant get due to platforms restrictions.

Ahh How mature,

Its derived from other services/games over the years that try to ensure "experience is how they want it" ,

Ofcourse i dont want this to happen, but as its happening in many services/games online n offline.

Its an inevitable path.

A walled garden benefits companies greatly.

People are being naive, willingly obtuse or intellectually dishonest regarding this matter. I will let you decide where Ethreon stands in that spectrum, but you nailed it. They are planing for the future and they will decimate this community in favor of one with more structure and control as well as profits.
